DreManuel:

You shouldn't be surprised to see PhD students here. A 20 year old kid can be admitted to PhD straight in the US after finishing college without MSc. And in Nigeria, increasingly many young people with MSc today are going for PhD cos they are no jobs. While it should be expected for them to act more maturedly, it's not a given.

Still, I agree with your comment about the guy comparing people fallaciously and trying to sway people subliminally towards divulging their competitive advantage.
Don't get me wrong. What I mean was: Hardly you see them here to comment but was surprised seeing them asking questions here. I have been following everything from day one, so I know those guys who have identified theirselves as phd applicants.

Information on Nairaland has assisted me in many ways n I appreciate it. We help one another on this forum. I wish d whole country can become like nairaland. To the past scholars here:

I would like to know if PTDF pays in advance/reimburses scholarship winners transport fare to and fro Abuja plus accomodation for the orientation program.

Your inputs would be appreciated as some of us scholarship hopefuls wouldn't like to be caught unawares with such impending expenses. Thanks.

CAVEAT: I'm not trying to put the cart before the horse, I'm just a man of Faith who believes he will be shortlisted and is making financial plans because he takes care of his bills. Thanks

I am pro share. I live for that....We just have to recognise the line.

It's a different thing to share my experience at an interview/screening. It's another thing to be telling you questions and helping you prepare especially when we're in a race. It makes absolutely zero sense.

Take it whatever way you want. I'm not your daddy.

Accommodation and food for the 3 to 5 days orientation is on PTDF. I don't think there is any transport reimbursing.

What else do you want them to share. A lot of the interview experiences have been shared here already and you really need to appreciate their effort.

Do you expect your competitor, albeit healthy, to give you his bullet for you to cock your gun to kill him? It is will be alter foolishness for them to quote things for you verbatim. Won't you prefer to have the scholarship more than anyone? People came from London and US, spent over a million naira just to do this interview and you expect to give u guidelines to help you prepare right.

If anyone share, all good but no one should be condemned for not sharing. We all are suppose to get into the interview Hall same day to be fair to them

I agree with you too...see this thing is very simple...many Nigerians like to be spoon fed....what Mr AdamsFunakaye doesn't understand is the research topic being differnt, is the reason why the Phd scholarship is more competitive, so it's not about being asked the same questions truly, but how well you get them to buy into your own research topic....so if anyone drops a hint of what went on in he's/her own turn, let's be honest, he or she will just help you to be better prepared and stand higher chances than he/she did.......Disclaimer: this is my opinion. OVER 1000 CANDIDATES FACE INTERVIEW PANEL FOR THE AWARD OF PTDF SCHOLARSHIP (PhD)

A total of one thousand and Ninety (1,090) shortlisted candidates are participating in a one week intensive oral interview process leading to the award of PTDF 2017/2018(PhD) scholarships. The awards cover studies under the Fund’s Overseas Scholarship Scheme, the in-country Local Scholarship Scheme; Split-Site PhD programme as well as the new initiative of tuition free postgraduate study programmes facilitated by partnership agreements with institutions in Brazil, France, Germany and China.

A Central Selection Committee made up of academics and industry experts was constituted by the Fund to conduct the oral interviews for the PhD candidates based on four broad areas open for sponsorship. These are Geosciences, Environment, Management and Engineering.

Inaugurating the PhD Scholarship Central Selection Committee, the Executive Secretary, Petroleum Technology Development Fund, Dr. Bello Aliyu Gusau, described this year’s selection interview as the first of its kind, being a one stop exercise that will produce beneficiaries in 4 different areas of award.

According to him “It is from this exercise that we are going to derive beneficiaries of the Local Scholarship in Nigerian Universities; secondly, it is from this exercise that we are going to get those who will benefit from the Overseas Scholarship programme, thirdly, it is from this same exercise that we are going to get people who are going to benefit from other collaborations and partnerships that we are building especially in Germany, France, China and other places. Equally important is the fact that it is from this same exercise that we are going to derive the beneficiaries of our Split-Site PhD programme”.

The PTDF Executive Secretary said that in the last one year, the Fund had been working on how best to redirect the traffic of scholarship awardees away from foreign universities to Nigerian universities without losing the required value and standard. “It is in the pursuit of this that we met with Vice-Chancellors of Federal Universities and we had extensive discussions on what needs to be done. We have expressed some of our concerns especially in terms of duration and completion time. In addition to that we are also trying to build our own institutions. We have an Institute in Kaduna -the National Institute of Petroleum Studies (NIPS) and we have developed it to a level that we can inaugurate the Split-Site programme there”.

A breakdown of the participants in this year’s oral interview for selection of candidates for PTDF PhD scholarship, indicates that five hundred and twenty-Nine (529) submitted doctoral proposals in areas of Engineering and Renewable Energy, Three Hundred and Sixty-Six (366) on Environmental Management, and One Hundred and Ninety Five (195) on Computing and Geosciences.

The screening committee is expected to interview and assess the candidates based on the scoring template provided by the Fund which include the quality of their research proposals, its relevance to the oil and gas industry among other criteria set for the exercise.

The Fund from 2001 to date funded the training of 5,024 scholars in various fields related to the oil and gas industry under the Overseas and Local Scholarship Schemes. 3,545 were for Master’s (MSc), 1,156 (PhD) and 323 benefitted from the undergraduate Local Scholarship Scheme of the Fund.

I have waited patiently and observed some failures or better still inability of some of us to reason through their head or better still deliberately wanna have advantage over others. Honestly speaking, any information feed here is no longer a fair interview because you have added advantage to the people that will be interviewed and they will definitely be better in answering and presenting their proposal than you. I noticed what happened here during MSc CBT exam, some people came here and gregariously wrote what they were asked and that put them at disadvantage. Someone who was privileged to have seen the list of shortlisted masters scholars told me that people that wrote late performed extremely well unlike the early bird, and I know what happened because I was here and I saw how they posted their new words and others capitalised on that and became better than them. My point is that asking for a clue in a game of competition and mostly from your competitor is nonsense, its inhuman, stupidity and arrant nonsense. Some of us here are using our mouth in reasoning instead of our head. Anyways for me, I did mine and it was very fantastic and if you want to know how it went and the questions they asked me, please feel free and write me back from Saturday 29th July, 2017 after the whole exercise then I will be free to share with you but before the exercise then you are a cheat, dishonest human, dubious individual who wanna take advantage of some myopic and intellectually deluded entity in human skin, thinking purely with their psychotic invariance, some mis-match in their faculty of thought with some element of madness vis-a-vis innuendoted personality of highest degraded animal.

Having said that, go for your own interview like I did, come back here and lets share our own experience for the people that will come here next year. This to me I felt its fair and it is consistence with the natural justice, equity and good conscience and its purely acceptable to the extent of its consistency.
