I am working on a school project where I need to scan and capture user biometric information using a biometric fingerprint scanner and store in db for authentication. I haven't actually worked with a biometric scanner before so I have no concrete directions so far. I will appreciate any help and a point to a right direction

I can be of help. I am consultant on biometrics integration and has been solving biometric integration since 2011 prior to the GSM fingerprint registration in Nigeria.

Which programming technology are you using and which brand of scanner?

Let's start from there.

OK.... I want to use java and haven't decided on the best scanner model to use...

Just need something easily accessible whose library I can find easily out there

first make research on available finger print scanner that has a comprehensive SDK/documentation for your preferred programming language. I have a basic app i did sometimes last year with a Futronics fingerprint scanner, C sharp .Net and MS SQL server. It can handle both 1 to 1(Verification) and 1 to many (identification).
