cheesy good to know you don't hate Yoruba. I lived with ND folks and I know the bitterness and hate abundant in the erosion ravaged enclave is absent in them.

The problem I have with most people on Nairaland is they talk like they don't know the country they are in.
Oga you talk like you don't know Nigeria! Atiku invested Billions in Onne. And he's making his money back through intels and basically controlling all coys in Onne Industrial zone.

The bill for devolution of powers how did it go? You dey talk like say na Germany u dey! "let your senators blablabla......, negotiate terms with blablabla" You really think they haven't thought of that?

The only thing that can happen in this case is if another port is built by more patient private individuals or a state gvt like in the case of Akwa Ibom and the Ibaka seaport. And getting funds or loans from private investors to build a port in the Niger Delta is difficult cos it's not as commercialised as Lagos. LASG can easily get funds externally to fund projects of nearly any size cos lots of people will be willing to invest in an already made economy.
You see, this is where I get fed up with your people. sad They know how to complain, they know how to whine, and they know how to create & circulate propaganda. But do they know how to go through the proper channels and tweak the system to get what they want? No!

You are here online blasting Atiku, yet your Senators and House of Assembly members have failed to do their jobs, by bringing the perpetrators of such unfavourable policies at Onne to book and debating their actions, in order to cause them to review such actions for your benefit. undecided

You just asked: "You really think they haven't thought of that?" huh And my answer to you is where is the proof that they thought of it? shocked Why didn't they take action if they thought about it?

Wasn't it in this Nigeria, specifically Lagos where the whole Lekki-Epe expressway was concessioned to one company, and 3 toll-gates were meant to be built on it? They built the 1st one, and people protested. A lawyer named Ebun Adegboruwa rose up and took the state govt to court. He was witch-hunted by the same state govt, and the CofO for his personal house was almost revoked. At the end of the day, the plan to build 3 toll-gates was shelved in favour of just 1 toll-gate. In fact, the 2nd toll-gate they built, could not be used till date. sad

Were you not in this country, when MKO Abiola was killed, without him realising his mandate? huh What happened? shocked People from his ethnic group and others from different tribes, formed a coalition, lobbied, demonstrated and worked assidously behind the scenes, to get another man from Abiola's ethnic group into the Presidency. And the power brokers had to bring Obasanjo from prison to become president in a space of several months. Did Abiola's kinsmen just wring their hands and complain online, without taking concrete steps? No! angry

So why do your people prefer to wave the banner of propaganda instead of taking practical, logical steps? shocked If your Senators & co, summon Atiku & his company Intels to the National Assembly, to accuse them of working against non-oil importers, and also compel them to provide ways of ensuring that non-oil importers are not disenfranchised from using Onne port because of high charges, don't you think the press and other arms of the media would have a field day, in exposing Intels tactics, and whipping up public opinion in favour of your importers? huh Don't you think out of shame and a desire to avoid damage to their reputation, such a company would backtrack? Make una check am, nah! shocked

Anikulhapo:
Kemi Adeosun, minister for finance, says more than half of Nigeria’s value added tax (VAT) comes from Lagos state alone.

Speaking at the parley between the federal government and progressive governors forum (PGF) in Abuja on Tuesday, Adeosun said the 87 percent of Nigeria’s VAT is derived from four states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In other words, only 13 percent of Nigeria’s VAT comes from 32 other states in the federation.

According to her no country in the world with high tax compliance rate is poor, and no rich country has a low tax compliance rate.

“There is no poor country that has a high tax compliance rate, and no rich country that has a low one,” Adeosun said.

Quoting current VAT collection data across Nigeria, the minister said “55% of Nigeria’s VAT is collected in Lagos State. 20% in FCT, 6% in Rivers, 5% in Kano, 1% in Kaduna”.

“I’m hoping that one day Finance Commissioners will stop needing to come to Abuja monthly to share FAAC, because IGR (internally generated revenue) will be sufficient.”

The minister had earlier complained about the country’s abysmal tax-to-GDP ratio, which she said was at six percent, further stating it to be one of the lowest in the world.

Speaking on the topic “The Funding Nigeria Needs,” the minister says the states must do more to generate revenue from with and not solely depend on the federal government for federal allocation.

This is the reason I have always maintained that economic gateway Lagos and Abuja represented in Nigeria must be replicated in the defunct eastern and midwestern regions respectively. If this simple task cannot be accomplished, secession is admirable.

Between Yorubas and Ibos , who is literally hosting who in Nigeria? lol
What do Igbos have that Yorubas want? NOTHING. You yourself, think about it deeply and you will see it.

He has a right to support or oppose the Idea of Oduduwa Republic, and it has nothing to do with being a parasite or whatever.
Some Yorubas declared an Oduduwa Republic a few days ago, because they believe in it as well.

the case of the Igbo however is one of a mistletoe that doesn't even know that it doesn't have a root of its own.
Spot on!!!

For your information, the economic and commercial space in Lagos which produces the said VAT is controlled by the SE so invariably there will be a decline if they should stop and take it else where.
ERockson:
The whole SE can not boast of 2% of the total VAT. I wonder which area they actually contribute to national growth in that region.

I didnt bother to read up the rubbish you wrote there more than once cos I know u won't make a well informed argument. Honestly, if you've not read about the Onne port concessioning and complains by governors and importers about high charges there, then I don't have anything really to tell you.

Atiku isn't cheating anyone. That was the agreement they had during the concession. Many governors business men have talked and taken actions to protest in the past but then it's a Private business and that's the only way he can make the money he invested in the project. Now don't get the impression that the port isn't working to full capacity , it is. A lot of Industries are sited in the one Onne as a result of Seaport there, but these companies are oil and gas related cos they can convienently meet the charges there, and don't forget this port was even built for them in the First place. I can't really remember but the agreement is something like 50:50 blw the coy and the government till the end of the deal. Attempting to cast aside this agreement will only chase away future investors from that Industry.

on the other hand the Apapa port is a govt port and and due to reasons known by the government (or sheer ineptitude) the other three ports were closed ( warri, PH ports( not Onne) , Calabar ports) to reduce the influx of imported goods into the country ( so I heard) , and in all honesty every economic activity in Nigeria depends on importation for survival. The surge of Industries in Lagos and Ogun isn't cos those are only possible states to site them but cos of

1. proximity to seaport ( to bring heavy machinery and equipment: they won't import heavy machinery and transport them via road 500km inland. No investor does that)
2. Access to air. (MMA).

My bro, you have a problem with us; we whine and talk propaganda... Perhaps the problem is with you. You sit in your part of the country and barely aware of anything outside Lagos and Ibadan ( and maybe Abuja ) and claim to know everything about the rest of Nigeria. Truth is you know nothing!!! Do you listen to Radio stations in the Niger Delta? No!. Do you listen to Radio stations in the South East? No. Do you even read news Paper content from the areas? No! Have u even spent a year outside your part of Nigeria? No!
Yet somehow you think we haven't explored the right channels to check these imbalances. That's why I popped the intial question, "You think we haven't thought of them?"

It's easy to claim strength when your strength hasn't been tested. Do have a good day.

..We then wondered why the whole of SE that constitutes over 70% of Igbos adds little or nothing to offer OBODO nigeria in VAT. grin huh

What delusion, I am sure you know you sound funny, right?
