Looking back now, I can actually realise how childish I was then to throw a golden egg away. Did I just say "throw"...I guess "Smash" should be a the right word. I meet him on facebook and it started with the usual "Hi". I responded nonchalantly. maybe I was not ready to chat with him that night or he didn't caught my attention. He drew my attention the next day when he ask for a favour.

Can you help me check if my name is among the list for Masters students in your school? He asked.
... Oh! This one is a bookworm like me... That makes us even then. The thought ran across my mind, but then another thought out smart it. What if he has run a background check on my profile and gotten acquainted with my interest. Why me? Obviously not the only person he knew in this school.

You see my cousin is a law student of your school but have been procrastinating checking it for me on the bases that he always had a tight scheduled. I live as far as Warri and won't want to spend money only to come and go home again with no outcome.

This time around, I saw the genuinty of his words.
"Okay, I will.

That was what ushered us into that unending conversation as if we have known for ages. Before I close my eyelids to sleep that day, I could literally say one or two things about him.
Damn!
He is from my local government and how come I never knew we went to the same secondary school because I was still in JSS 1 when his mate graduated from our school. We exchange numbers so I could update him on the outcome.

The next day, I walked into the Postgraduate studies to make my enquires and behold his name was there... The next minute, I was dialing his number ASAP.
You name came out! I could hear my voice away from myself that eyes around all rolled towards my direction. Didn't even notice till after I said "You are welcome" to a soft voice saying "thanks"from the other end of the line.
Fast-forward to 2days latter, he was in my school and the next is.......

Forgive this unserious babe... She is not even a writer but claiming to. Hope she tries to complete this story someday but if you know her, you sure know she has a tight schedule of which writing is the least of the things she needs to be doing . Thanks for the encouragement though.

The next day he was at my school and ask to see me.
Being that kind of shy of a girl who was raised by her village grandma and was taught that ordinary touching from a guy could get you pregnant. I almost decline but with much persuasion from my roommate Uju and her friend Nkiru , we all ended up at Domino's Pizza at the eve of that day.
Behold, standing infront of us, a tall fair handsome man who seems more handsome than what I saw on facebook. Could it be that facebook has a way of hidding the looks of men? When he smiled, I could see his neatly arranged thirty - two teeths as if he was created to just smile with them.
My roommate and her friend were satisfied with this creature here that the conversation seem endless and one would imagine he actually came for either of them.
Meanwhile he made sure we ate to our satisfaction and even took some home.
On getting home, these two ladies sat me down for a lecture. They told me how big a fish I have caught. Babe the guy is into you! Could imagine even though you didn't alter a word during the conversation, he kept starring at you... Uju finally spoke out. Am sure he wished she came alone, he would have eaten her raw with his sexy eyes ... Nkiru added.
Honestly that wasn't one of my problems that night, I was hoping the lecture ends soon so I can go prepare for the real lecture which I have the next day by 8am, but the two ladies seems to enjoy themselves with the lecture so I decide to play along by listening.
Don't use this your Sister Mary lifestyle and chase this guy ooo... In fact I will be in charge of selecting the cloths you put on. This is Nkiru the fashionista reminding me how good I should look to make sure this guy stays. And Nk is it only cloth, she better start making up. Thank God she is my roommate and my make up kit is in this room, She dare not leave this room to meet this guy without having a nice look.
Lekwanu mu! This guy has not even said what is on his mind and you guys are here reading mind. Oya Nk Biko take Uju to your room to complete the planning let me face my book.
As I make move to stand and disengage from their discussion, I got a message. On opening it, the message reads "Thank you for your time today, looking forward to the day you will invite me to your lodge. And may I ask, what should I get for you that day? My regards to your friends and Takia. I gave out a brief smile and the next thing I heard was "Love nwantiti" ofcourse Uju read the message with me without my notice.

When Nkiru and Uju talked about my appearance, I totally understand.
Who was I really?
My name is Ada. A typical example of a village girl. I left my home at age 1 to live with grandma because mum took in not up-to a year after my birth. Because of the fear that I will fall ill, grandma volunteered to raise me. You could say I wasn't breastfeed for up-to a year shocked.
Even though parents resides in the city, story has it that I never for once cried to follow my mum back anytime she visits and because grandma has grown fond of me, mum didn't see any reason to take me along.
I guess you now know they type of life I lived before gaining admission tongue. It was a routine lifestyle, from home to school or market or church.
I didn't have that proper orientation when my first monthly Aunty visited. I was so scared and when grandma told me that if a guy touch me, I will get pregnant and that will ruin the beautiful future I had of becoming a Medical Doctor, I swear that day that a man will never touch me in this lifestyle. Little wonder Individuals avoided any gathering of men (lol) cool.
But then when I got admission, I saw a different world and different sets of people different from what grandma has only describe for me. For example, Nk and Uju seems cool with guys touching them (not that kind touching you are thinking now). I remember vividly Uju jumping on one of the guys on our hostel one day and I was expecting her to get pregnant the next day but that didn't happen (that was in our year one anyways). The day I finally let her know of what I taught that day, she couldn't help but call me village girl. grin
I must admit that am learning things I wasn't taught from her and I was really learning fast.
Having said this, I wouldn't attribute my way of dressing or appearance to my village life. Of course I would have learnt it from her since we have stayed two years already but in my learning process with her, I found out I have grown to love and cherish my simplicity both in dressing and look.
Finally with much disturbance, I gave Tony my hostel address (now you know his name) smiley and he showed up with his soon to be Barrister cousin Ike.
