And you expect a sensible person to believe ibadan and kano has more purchasing power than portharcourt, ontisha and Aba...

Kano that cant even feed its people and has the highest poverty and malnutrition rate in the country and the highest out of school children, highest vvf, highest almajiri, highest child illiteracy. same with Ibadan in the south. with the highest number of beggars and hungry people....empty mall and clubs...Last month i was in ibadan, i visited ebivande club which i was told was the biggest club in ibadan, to my surprised, it was only six people in the whole club, myself, my two friends and some ladies that we met at the club.. i was like fucck..we eventually left early in the morning.... so shameful., yet some ibadan peeps on Nairaland come here to form to make believe...smh

you afonja will not stop deceiving yourselves with your fake data gathering and media..these days it is easily for someone to put up fake data, attach it to a site or blog to make it look credible, post it on Nairaland and gbam it will make front page. then afonja will be dancing up and down in victory.

Look here ipig. I was talking about the top twenty. Every available credible data … be it IGR… population… or what have you puts Edo/benin above every SE state. Higher population definitely and automatically translates to a higher purchasing power. That's the truth? Learn to deal with it.
I can't argue with you but it is a very big insult to compare Edo market with any Eastern markets, the biggest market in Edo is ringroad and new Benin market, the two markets put together is not equal to the smallest market in Onitsha. All this markets in Edo in general all move down to Onitsha to get the those their goods and resell it.

In terms of IGR, most of these IGR in Nigeria States in not really the money they generate INTERNAL rather they tends to return their bail out funds(federal allocations) claiming that they generate the money in INTERNAL. Let be truthful to ourselves, most times when a governor perform credible well notice this: the IGR of that particular State will reduce drastically, with exception of Lagos

What is the population of Kano vs Port Harcourt? If I recall well, Kano state had the highest figure at the last national census, which can easily translate to a higher market also.

What is Aba and Onitsha? What are they purchasing there? And what business does a city like Ibadan have being in the same sentence with those 2 Igbo townships?

Because your boasts are now serially belied by facts daily, it should ordinarily lead to the feeling of denial your currently experience.
Have u been to kano before or u just hide under ur keyboard n type nuisance, the kano population u are talking about is it the almajiris, the beggars or the tramadol infested abokis that roams the streets of kano.what's their purchasing power?

Dude, the problem with some of you is that you base a lot of your arguments on your supposed economic superiority on wild assumptions that can't be backed by credible data or the reality on the ground. The data I attached in my earlier post came from the telecoms companies (atleast you can't argue that they're biased or compromised on ethnic grounds). It clearly suggests that there are more people in Edo with phonelines, whom are also spending more money to purchase data subscriptions, than any SE state. That's raw data right there. These are some of the data that investors consult before making decisions concerning FDI into Nigeria, in order to ascertain purchasing power.

Obviously, those much-touted 'markets' at Onitsha and Aba aren't amounting to much in terms of economic output coz even Enugu that isn't known for any major markets has consistently posted higher IGR numbers than both Anambra and Abia. So perhaps it's about time you lot quit basing your supposed economic strength on those overhyped markets. Anambra didn't even post any IGR data from last year, yet it expects to be taken seriously?? This isn't about chest-beating but data.

You guys should stop analyzing every topic through tribalistic and ethnofacist lenses.

There is a difference between how great the Purchasing power of a given market is and how big that consumer market is, although the former influences the later.

The most populous cities should consume more. This further confirms the 5 largest cities with most middle class in Nigeria. In expanded list we'll have Benin and Kaduna.

Guy… your argument does not hold water. If you had said that perhaps Anambra and Abia had been understating their igr figures fir the past couple of years perhaps then you would have had a case. But to connect high igr to bailout funds? Come on… you can do better than that. Enugu for instance had been the undispited SE state with the highest igr for many consecutive years even before any single bailout was doled out. How do you explain that, compared to relatively underperformin market states like Anambra and Abia? Even Ebonyi posted a higher igr than Anambra about two years or so ago. Your argument no make brain jor.

Take it easy and learn to view issues from different dimensions. Aba and Onitsha are distributor markets and not consumer markets and in truth they are the largest markets in Nigeria. This report is not about the largest distributor markets but consumption or end user.

Onitsha represents to the SE what Lagos and PH represent to the SW and SS respectively. Onitsha is not all about commerce, there are industries, blue-collar and white collar jobs. The economy of the city is mixed and diverse. As for the IGR status, though Anambra did not release that of the 2016, but the rough estimate put the state's IGR at over 26B, the highest in the SE.

But the tramadol infested Kano still had a higher IGR than all the South Eastern states combined. The bulk of which certainly came from taxation of businesses operating in Kano, rather than natural resources. Businesses being patronized by the Kano market of residents with purchasing power.

I think this counsel and perspective should be directed at those that tout those markets as their sole arguement in support of their inclusion as high consumption cities, as they're the ones arguing for their inclusion. That explains why even Enugu has a higher purchasing power than either Onitsha or Aba even. Obviously that image of Onitsha and Aba being consumer markets is a deceptive one that is most often being pushed by their indigenes. Na them make you direct am at.

Guy just accept this, it's a fact no doubt about it.
Most of these States return their bail-out funds claiming to have generated it internally. Just do a thorough research on this, you will confirm what am saying.

Look chino, i think the problem with Onitsha is that it's just not a big enough market. The likes of Obosi are still having a hard time accepting the tag of being regarded as part of the greater city, hence limiting and denying Onitsha of its place as a large enough market to be contended with. Onitsha as presently constituted is too small, that's the truth.

You maybe right about the position of towns like Obosi, Ogidi, Ogbunike, Oba, Ogbaru etc, but I must tell you the utmost truth, those towns are a part of greater Onitsha metropolis. It is a tag they have to live with by their mere proximity to Onitsha. If all the entire metropolis is put into consideration as it were then I can assure you that Onitsha would just make this list like a walk-in-the-park.

Again, let us not forget that these states below controls 90% of cash in Nigeria: Lagos, Abuja, Anambra, Ogun, Rivers, Oyo and Abia States.

That's often how big cities are made; by merging together big towns in close proximity, or by forcing smaller towns to empty into the biggest one around.

We can add Kaduna and Enugu to complete the Nigerian cities list.

I always marvel when I read Igbos remark that Anambra has 3 cities of Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi. So I begin to wonder what is a city and what is a town, and if the 20 local governments in Lagos are therefore 20 cities.
I have been to all the state capital townships in the East, if they are merged together and with Onitcha, Aba, Nnewi, etc, they are not up to Ibadan. You can drive through Onitsha within 7 minutes if there is no heavy traffic.
No single company in the East that can be compared with British/American Tobacco or even Yale foods in Ibadan.

It's foolhardy for someone to be comparing Onitsha or Aba township to Ibadan!

Hmm. If Igbo had not been a very successful people no body would have taken that tribe serious. I am a blogger and I understand the media game by one ethnic group who despite their stong government backup think Igbos are individually overshadowing their light in the nation.
They have used the media to convince the gullible that Ndi Igbo are drug peddlers, kidnappers, dominant in nature and so on.
When you more successful than your counterparts they do everything to bring you down to their level and that what Ndi Igbo is facing in the hands of Nigeria today.
Igbo has the best skin tones and they breed beautiful offspring,
Igbos has the highest number of successful people,
In fact there are several clear evidences that other ethnic groups when they ponder on them, their heart breads jealousy for Ndi Igbo. I am not commenting based on the post but for some ugly comments.
I am Ikwerre and I love being called Onye Igbo. Wene
My dear dont mind them, they dont understand the game. Let their media keep lying to them while our people continue with their hussling.
Arewa youths announced that there are over 3 million igbos in Kano alone and the fools here have not asked themselves what those 3 million people are doing there.
Igbos cannot stay in a place that is not of benefit to them. And when they say market is moving in Kano or Lagos or PH, who owns the market? Igbo of course. Those of us in business understand this statistics here than those boasting about the cities mentioned here.
I wouldnt want to go further here to give them tips on how Igbos succeed in business. Let me allow them wallow in their ignorance.
