let me say its because they don't know they can name a child jesus.....and even d parents that know that they can name a child Jesus are refusing to do so cos they are afraid of being judged by an ignorant society. finally we are too religious to do what we are suppose to do that's y Nigerians are where they are today.

The proper name Jesus /ˈdʒiːzəs/ used in the English language originates from the Latin form of the Greek name Ἰησοῦς (Iēsous), a rendition of the Hebrew Yeshua (ישוע), also having the variants Joshua or Jeshua.[1][2] In a religious context the name refers to Jesus, the central figure of Christianity. In the Spanish cultural sphere, Jesús (pronounced IPA: [xeˈsus]) is a very common male personal name.

Pronunciation /ˈdʒiːzəs/
Gender Male
Word/name Hebrew
Related names Joshua, Yeshua, Isa

Parents name their children JESUS, but they usually prefer the inflected form JOSHUA or JEHOSHUA, these 3 names are all the same, but they have inflected spelling like in Islam HABEEB,ABIB, HABIB, ABEEB E.TC

Jesus is just a name, common in latin America like Jose de Jesus. Its Christ that is the saviour. Another name for Jesus christ is Emmanuel and i've seen Nigerians answering it. Very funny they answer Emmanuel and not Jesus. undecided undecided

God bless you front and back.
Brownbarbie97:
The white man imposed religion(Christianity) on us to make us subservient, docile and "more tolerable" and it worked.
Now I'm a Christian, don't get me wrong but Christianity and religion as a whole is one of the reasons Africa is as backward as it is because Africans being the highly superstitious beings that we are over abuse these religions which is why we can't think and act but pray to our God to solve even the slightest problems.
Now back to the topic,as holy as he was,the name "JESUS" is really just a name which is why so many Latin Americans and the rest bear that name. They see nothing wrong in giving their kids such names but over here where we are so religiously inclined it is perceived as a taboo. These pple that brought us religion are more liberal and neutral about it than we the recipients.
Talk about being more holy than the pope,ha! grin

Greeks name their kids... Jesus.
We name our kids... Emmanuel.
U r free to name your kid Jesus buh do not put Christ.
Jesus is just a name... Ppl answer it. There's a difference between Jesus and Jesus Christ.

Christ is a title. You can be a Christ. Just work on your spirituality and you will know you are potentially a Christ.

Cause will respect the name.
"Jesus" the name that supersede/above all names.
Imaging Evans papa bears Jesus as surname.
Imaging how Nigeria press/journalist will captured it.
Evans Jesus (God forbid).
Jesus is Lord.
Happy sunday to you all.

from my personal observation parent tends not to call their children Jesus because its a name above every other name by so doing we need to accord respect to it. you know some children who are stubborn if their parents intend scolding or yelling at them, dont you think they might say "JESUS ARE YOU CRAZY? They will out of anger(insult against our most high son, our mediator). so to prevent situations of them insulting our most high God son its better not to call their children JESUS.

Jesus is not a name above all names. People bear Jesus in Spain. There is a Spanish player called Jesus Navas.

Nigerian are superstitious in everything. They feel its a sign of respect as no one even bears the name God. Anoda way to look at it is that parents don't want their children to be crucified like Jesus or die at 33years. But Stephen and other martyr died horrific death and Nigerians still use their names.
To be sincere Nigerians are the most difficult people to understand wink

Ignorance is the reason. They believe Jesus is a special name hence shouldn't be given to children but they are all wrong. Anybody can bear Jesus, the difference is Christ. Just like Muslims, anybody can bear Muhammed but the difference is (S.A.W).

I think it's out respect to our Lord Jesus Christ that Africans don't name their children JESUS. but I don't see a big deal in naming my child Jesus BUT I can't name him JESUS CHRIST because that CHRIST is what makes our Lord Jesus unique

Because you worship it, that is why! You will worship his garments if you saw it today. That is what is wrong with many of your black Christians. You just want to worship something.

For your information, Jesus is just a name. The Christ is what ought to distinguish him.

Because Jesus is not a christian name. When Jesus was born and named he was not a christian. Christianity started after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The apostles started Christianity, hence we take names after them.

the name JESUS means SAVIOUR, whilst CHRIST means ANOINTED... SO tell me, who can claim that his child is the anointed saviour of the world?

Last names are more important than first names , so it's just a Nigerian normal holy holy thing . The name that should be avoided is CHRIST. That's the unique name. Even devil can bear Jesus.

The variation of the name which is Joshua is used especially amongst Hebrew speakers.
The irony is in Latin America the name is used with great reverence .
