Varys is only is good as his whisperers--little birds. He has none of that now, he doesn't have the resources he had when he was master of whispers. His whisperers are now controlled by Qyburn who is loyal to Cercei. He is openly an enemy of the crown so his influence and power has drastically reduced.



[B] 1. House Tyrell never had a great army--as said by Lady Olenna. War was not their thing and that's why they stayed rich till the end while Lannisters went broke because of the wars they started and brought on themselves. Wars are very expensive. There was never a time in the series when House Tyrell was known to contribute armies to any war and that's because they didn't have any. What they always brought to the table was Food and Gold. First to the Lannisters--because of Tywin--and until recently to Daenerys. That's not surprising, even till this day there a lot of rich countries that don't have great armies. cc: Canada, Switzerland and so on. [/B]

2. Randyll being Westeros' best military strategist and the strongest points of House Tyrell's army defected and sided with House Lannister after he was promised The Reach. So this was more of a coup than it was a war. Even before the sack, House Tyrell was gone for all intent and purposes. Mace Tyrell is dead, Loras Tyrell is dead and Margaery Tyrell is dead. All they were left with was a septuagenarian Olenna Tyrell. So I am sure most of the Tyrell army decamped before the sack, Heck! some of them might have orchestrated it. Nobody was going to die for a lost cause. House Tyrell was a lost cause.



The Lannisters didn't suffer as much loss as you are implying in the war of the 5 kings.

Who were the 5 kings?

1. Joffrey Baratheon

2. Renly Baratheon: Killed by Stannis' shadow.

3. Stannis Baratheon: He was killed in the war against the Bolton's. Even if you take the Battle of Blackwater Bay into account, The majority of the Lannister army arrived with Tywin Lannister when the war was almost over and "saved the day", very similar to what the Knights of the Vale did in the Battle of the Bastards.

4. Robb Stark: Killed by his own bannermen and House Frey in the Red Wedding. The only time he did damage to the Lannister army was when he captured Jaime Lannister and that was a very small army. That hardly counts as "big damage"

5. Balon Greyjoy: Never a threat to the Lannisters, mostly fought against House Stark and then House Bolton in the North.

Also, take into consideration that the Lannisters are the richest house and have the most powerful army in the 7 kingdoms. Though they have been debts post war of the 5 kings, it doesn't make any difference.

Balon Greyjoy/ The iron Islands is the closest to Casterly Rock, ofcourse he poses a threat, he did in the Greyjoy Rebellion. The Lannisters were lucky Balon had his eyes in the North.

The Lannister army is really the most disciplined, their region had enough gold to train their soldiers, but they do not have the largest army.

Did I miss something ? When did the Tyrells not have an army, a large one at that ? The Reach is the most populous kingdom, House Tyrell could field an army in a short amount of time, and provide enough food to feed them. The Tyrell army fought at the Battle of Blackwater.

I would put Stannis above Randyll but Stannis is dead.

The Lannisters lost more than half their forces in the War of the Five Kings.
