Some professionals from the old Midwest region (now Edo and Delta states) are scheduled to meet in Benin on Wednesday to review the regions position on restructuring.
A statement by the spokesman of the Midwest Movement, renowned playwright, Dr. Don Pedro Obaseki on Monday indicated that the professionals across differennt fields who are indigenes of the region would deliberate on the all important issue and come up with the best deal for Midwest.

According to him, as agitation for restructuring gets louder, professionals from the business sector, academic, political class, media, civil society groups and others, who are indigenes of the old Midwest region will converge on Benin City on Wednesday.(tomorrow).

He mentioned some of the delegates at the meeting to include himself, another of the big players in the Nollywood, Richard Mofe Damijo; Senator Domingo Obende; a senior lecturer in the Faculty ofLaw, University of Benin, Professor Edoba Omoregie; former presidential adviser, Professor Echefuna Onyebeadi; Dr. Chris Itsede; an editor with Thisday, Iyobosa Uwugiaren and Mr. Ide Eguabor.

He listed others to include Admiral S. Ogoigbe (rtd); Dr. Godwin Akpobire; Dr. Mo Eyeoyibo; Dr. Loretta Ogboro-Okor; Ebiere Akangbou; Prince Kassim Afegbua; Mena Ajakpovi; Arc. Frank Evbuomwan; Dr. Mogba Eyeoyibo; Dr. SEO Ogbonmwan; Olorogun Theo Mukoro; Engr. Wole Abu and others.

The statement read in part: “We The Midwest Movement call for a restructuring of the Nigerian nation. The objective is to achieve a better deal for the Midwest within the Nigerian commonwealth.

‘’We the Midwest Movement believes that the destiny and future of the territories of the Midwestern Region/Bendel State cannot be attached to any agitation of the Eastern or Western tribes and our neighbours.

Neither can any of the territories of the Midwestern Region/Bendel State be annexed by any such agitator(s). We are a distinct People.

‘’We, the Midwest Movement call for re-federalisation of the Nigerian Nation-State, based on informed understanding of best practices, employing the fiscal allocation provisions of the pre-1966 constitutions as useful templates.’’

The Movement stated that it was not searching for the balkanisation of the country or the declaration of Midwest Republic adding that it will insist on engaging in the federal argument as one region of the regions.

The statement further read: “The Midwest Movement shall examine and properly situate the history of the Midwest Region/Bendel State, and its rightful place in the future of Nigeria.

‘’THE Midwest Movement shall be a constituent assembly/constitutional assembly for the purpose of drafting or adopting a position document that best reflects the aspirations of the Midwest peoples of Edo and Delta states.

‘’We shall set out terms of engagement with: the larger Nigeria federation and/or the Niger-Delta/South-South or as a separate union, this must be tertiary; a last resort.’’

Here comes a brother of the Unity Begger in Chief and Love peddler Nnamdi Azikiwe who put us in today's mess with his One-Nigeria sloganeering.

The Anioma Representative in that list was not forced to get included. I therefore think your admonition should be directed at him as to why he has "betrayed" you again. You know that anyone who does not reason like you people or disagrees with you is automatically a traitor.

You have several tribes in the old midwest, so what is distinct about it?

Igbos were the first unity beggars in Nigeria. They started unity begging at a time when Hausa-Fulanis were killing them in large numbers in the North. Ask Zik.

We have just ended the press conference now and the Asagba of Asaba's representative was in attendance along with many Ikas. You may follow network news this evening for that.

See revisionist in chief pointing fingers of revisionism accusation. Didn't your Zik beg Hausa-Fulanis and everyone else to buy into his unity begging titled "One-Nigeria" at a time when even the Hausa-Fulanis were of the opinion that there was no basis for unity?

What makes us distinct people is the very fact that we are a multiplicity of tribes yet have a strong bond of harmony and identity which Nigeria's diversity failed to confer on it. You think having genuine unity in diversity is banana?

The Midwest is gone forever and in the event of Nigeria restructuring or disintegrating, we Igbos are are not going to part with one inch of Anioma.

Keep fooling yourself. Switzerland Norway etc are landlocked but developed.

By the way, obigbo is close to the Atlantic shores. Abia has the azumini blue River which also links to the Atlantic. So we are not landlocked. Sorry.

And yes, akwaibom of whom you don't represent, are our distant cousins. Go to arochukwu and abiriba and confirm before you further disgrace yourself here.

Biafra is one.

Nearly does not kill a bird. I am close to the sea is not the same as I am on the sea. You have no access to the Sea, pure and simple!

If linkage to a river which flows to the sea automatically translates to sea access then states like Kogi, Kwara, Benue and even Kebbi all have become coastal states since they share boundaries with River Niger which empties its contents into the sea.

So you even knew that being sandwiched cum landlocked is not an impediment to development yet you started by making jest of Bendel as being sandwiched between Yorubas and Igbos? See how you shift goal posts?

And how did Akwa Ibom come into this discussion now? Land grabbing mode activated. So you are still claim ing Akwa Ibomites are your cousins despite them having come out very recently to deny you people? Intra-sothern unity begging mode activated after Zik's unity begging with the Hausa-Fulanis failed and boomeranged.
You people don't ever learn from experience however bitter.

Still reading and not understanding. Need I spoon-feed you? Alright, the uniqueness of Midwest lies in the fact that it is the only part of Nigeria that existed as a cohesive kingdom before the advent of colonialism and that it was and still is the only part of the present day Nigeria created legally and constitutionally according to all internationally accepted laws and process which took into account the free will and consent of the multiple tribes. The US is a unique country not much because it is ethnicity diverse but more because it is a nation established by the consent and consensus of the people therein. Every other region or territory of Nigeria was created by either colonial masters for economic exploitation or military fiat in pursuit of neo-colonialism both without the consent of the locals. Get the uniqueness story now?

The Midwest no longer needs a referendum to determine its composition as we did that three years before the illegitimate Biafra Republic was born on account of its lack of referendum but coercion.

The Aniomas in attendance today freely reiterated that they are Benin migrants. They came as representatives of Asagba of Asaba and identified themselves as part of the Southern minorities crushing under the weight of WAZOBIA.

Wishful thinking. What is unity to you? Our unity lies in our uniqueness as the only legitimately created territory in Nigeria. We were not forced together but we chose to be together through the 1963 referendum.
That is the unity.

Don't know when Norway became landlocked.
.
Having a river that empties into the Atlantic does not mean you ain't landocked.
In case you don't know both Rivers and Akwa Ibom blocks every single access of Abia to the sea.
SE is 100% landlocked, unless you want to say all states that both River Niger and River Benue pass through are not landlocked, because those rivers empty into the atlantic ocean. Geography 101 grin

With all your knowledge, you couldn't figure out that Rivers flowing into the ocean does NOT mean "landlocked". Once dredged, who needs an open shore?

For every Norway erroneously posted, there are many developed countries that are landlocked. Google is there, help yourself. That is not to say igboland is landlocked. My point is that there is absolutely nothing that can stop the greatness of igboland whether opened or landlocked. Got it?
