Hello writers, I love your works and most of it helps me through the day. I decided to give ten thousand Naira to the best original poem of 200 words...not more than 200 words and not less. Post your work here and let it be an original work. Winner will be decided by the number of likes he/she gets on his post. Open to other ways of suggesting a winner but I think that the above suggestion is the most transparent. Thanks for participating. Prize is 10,000 Naira. AGAINST ALL ODDS I was there severally, yes The abyss of shame and jest Shrouded in want and mess Guess what? I never failed the test. I tried to tell people, I tried No one listens to a failure, I cried I cried, without tears to bear witness Past successes vanished to emptiness All odds is against my favour But I still cherish my fervour Pulling the last straw at success This time, the pull is ruthless That was the end, I concluded Closed my eyes, I finally yielded Waking from nothingness Congratulations woke me from emptiness I was hopelessly hopeful My hope may just be wishful But against all odds I became one of the lords 3 Likes |

DOWN OF JUSTICE (THE DAWN OF VIOLENCE) here it comes there it goes like a tornado They impaired the staunched ones Onwards they wishes to go without giving it thought at once Ready to strike if they earned a slightly chance. By and by they waited to chop off his head Making the river gushed out red Making the believer worship man-made And making a day turns to decade. For sure, they wanted to slaughter the devoted one Thy will they rules the immediate town They go astray in wanting to be affluent In this context they need influence. TOUCHED BY THE WIND Thy hands my friend, they find me in a day of loss. When my heart do burn, with frustration and want, when my spirit do roar, and seek love. Hold me fast, pull me up, my spirit die within me, as I fight to flee. The roars of fire plague me about, its heat prevail me, where will my soul go, so she may quench taste? Fire surrounded me, my spirit failed me, my eyes longed for an escape, the door laid open before me. My feet moved ever lightly, begging, seeking, before you found me. It is days like this I remember, when my soul cries, when hope flees, and it feels like I should lay dead. Me and thee my free bird, have come a long way. Guide me friend, lead me, show me the path I seek. Let the light from the sky, find me. Let its rays kiss me, they will be different from this yellow flames, for they promise freedom. My bones worry not thyself, my heart beat a little more, for our escape has found us, breath in this freedom, lean on the strength of the wind, and follow the path that it sees. |

WHAT IF? so she said to me with fury what kind of man are you and i said to her what kind of man do you expect me to be? see i hate it and i hate do do it so what if i told you that monogamy is a myth? so if monogamy is that important, then where does infidelity stand? if infidelity is that bad then why are not faithful? what does faithfulness mean, loyal when your arround and cheat when your far away, what if i told you that there is no soulmate its just a myth? i mean the bone of my bone and the flesh of my flesh, perhaps am mad base on perception but if madness nurtures such lucidy then lord make me more mad for in this wicket act do i find my sanity! 1 Like 1 Share |

@Wanderlustafrik, thanks for everything. God bless you. I really don't think the people in diary section would be interested in something like this. So I suggest you move the competition(that of the diary section) to education; maybe an essay writing or something. Or perhaps you could use the money to sponsor the short story battle that's currently going on in Literature section. Sponsers are still needed. It's a really nice competition, it runs like 'the voice' it started with 20 contestants and now it's down to 8, there's 3 more stages to go. Three teams and three jugdes. Kimberlywest Love your suggestions. I have closed the competition for the diary section After noting that they couldn't post on the page. I'm thinking more about your first suggestion in the short story section...about sending the topic to the front page,when the posting of stories is closed and letting more people participate by reading and liking. But I think it will mean that the winner will emerge on a later date. If you can guarantee the front page and get the others to agree to let the winner emerge after added votes from the front page then it's ok. |

Wanderlustafrik: About that, I thought really hard about it and I don't think it's really possible. Like the short story battle; all the stories are posted on a thread then the moderator(Divepen) transfer's them to a particular thread, so the participant won't be able to modify it. Plus, you can't comment on that thread, it's just like and share. If it's done like that, the people on the front page won't show any interest because they can't comment, so, I'm not really sure if it will be possible, considering the kind of aggressive people we have here on Nairaland, they might just storm literature section and start creating insultive threads/topics. VOICELESS SCREAMS Curled into a ball Breathing in the still air Same position from dusk to dawn Unwilling to move No motivation to get up Stinging red eyes, blurred vision Stuffy nostrils, achy bones Fangs of ice gnawed at every cell Piercing pain enveloped my bleeding heart Numbing my frail body His dark ocean deep eyes flashed through my mind His lingering smile stayed glued to my brain Refusing to fade into oblivion The warmth of his muscular arms The intense fiery caresses The honey coated kisses The passionate pleasure that resonates when he camps deep within the core of my wetness The struggle to get it all out of my head, my mind Thinking I'm going loco Thinking I'm cursed Kept falling for the wrong ones Kept relieving the same nightmare Princes keep turning to villians Knights in shining armour failed to rescue the damsel in distress My fairy tale 'Happily Ever After' keeps turning to a nostalgic flood of 'Sadly Ever After' He promised me forever He promised me the world Here and now alone Left with no hope Giving into the darkness that clamour for my soul If death comes now I might welcome it with open arms 8 Likes 5 Shares |

after an hectic day at day. feeling tired and depress he get to the bus stop to meet an empty stand no car, no People where moving on the street, he was stranded on the spot looking depress he started hearing some sound not too far from him he look at his left and saw people running, carrying stick and other metals toward him shouting thief thief thief he was clueless on what to do he try to run but his leg couldn't carry, before he could move he have been surrounded by the people a bald head man come near him and shout at him he try to talk, but he was attacked and they start beating him, they put him inside the tire and pour petrol on him as they want to light him that when he felt water being splash on him. he look around and see people surrounding him crying that when he realise he have been dreaming. |

The Bad dream After an hectic day at day. feeling tired and depress he get to the bus stop to meet an empty stand no car, no People where moving on the street, he was stranded on the spot looking depress he started hearing some sound not too far from him he look at his left and saw people running, carrying stick and other metals toward him shouting thief thief thief he was clueless on what to do he try to run but his leg couldn't carry, before he could move he have been surrounded by the people, a bald head man come near him and shout at him he try to talk, but he was attacked and they start beating him, He scan through the people and his high jam with his childhood bestfriend he look at him pleading with his eye but he look away like he don't know him, he was about to be burnt to death when he start shouting, Slap on his cheek brought him back to life look around and saw his mum in his front with a curious face, it all a dream that what he said before fainting. |
