If that were the case, why don't just kill the Muslim boy? Why the white girl and risk going to jail?

He was in an argument with the girl at a restaurant or outside am not sure after which she walked and got into the cab. However, being close to the house or not does not make him not culpable. What makes a suspect is always who has the most 'motive' to kill. Plus you must have missed the scene in the final part of that series where the inspector decided to go after him to bring him in.
