We have very senseless leaders. That a school is a technological schools doesn't mean that they can't venture outside their area of core competence or focus.

actually, it is the right step in the right direction. school of technology are supposed to focus on their descipline to narrow the gap between the nation technological drive and developed nations. division of labour and specialization were created by top management philosopher to breach this gap and that explained the industrial revolution in the 19th century.

Are you aware that almost everything under the sun is now somehow intertwined with technology? Are you aware of the implication of technology in business. Businesses can't survive without technology, so you can't seperate those, so the imperative of of technology in other fields of endeavour cannot be overemphasized.

The management courses offered in FUTO are Project Management Technology, Transport Management Technology, Maritime Management Technology, Information Management Technology, and Financial Management Technology.

I don't think these courses are outside the institution's core mandate.
I still dont understand the reason why a course like Info mgmt tech shud be scrapped. They run similar courses with computer science only from 3rd year where they have are little variation in the courses they offer. NUC shud act . Futo has produced very good products from these courses. Our leaders are just senseless and stupid.
Even MIT runs management courses I see no reason why our Technology schs won't offer them. Its just a shame , this country really pisses me off.

Obviously, they must have deviated or they wouldn't have been asked to desist and it did mention about not sticking to their CORE mandate..
I can authoritatively inform you that they didn't deviate an inch from their core mandate especially Federal Universities of Technology. Our policy markers at the ministry of education obviously think that what makes a university is the nomenclature it bears when its rather the law establishing it. If not ATBU bauchi would have been listed too because its a FUT too before the name change to Abubakar Tafawa balewa university bauchi

Where's the ''technology" in Financial Management?

These schools are offering management courses conventional schools refuse to pioneer as they are new fields of study. The case in FUTMINNA for instance, the school offers transport, project management and entrepreneurship and business studies and the government are preaching to the youth entrepreneurial consciousness make entrepreneurship a general course for all students of higher institutions yet no school is training graduate in this field so I don't see any justification for discrediting such courses from the few schools offering it

Yes the age we are now enterprise resource planning needs what is referred to as business information systems that requires an expert in financial management to design the tools use in Financial and database management and not just hire a computer programmer who is alien to the field to design the tools so that is where technology meets financial management

and that's why management courses are thought in the curriculum of students of science and technology in these schools.

these schools are not established to award degrees of management in the first place, the schools are just creating their faculty to boost the school IGR.
speaking from experience as a student of school of science and technology back then.

Why will technological and Agricultural universities offer those courses in the first place?

So what will happen to courses like Agric Marketing, AgroBusiness Dev and Management. With the govt encouraging entrepreneurship at the University level, offering mgt courses is key. This doesn't seem right, IMO

No sire, I'm not confused by that. An engineer must at some point in his career transit to a manager. You cannot take away management from technology. An engineer must learn to plan, organise, schedule, control, order, delegate, and execute projects. That, my friend, is management.
So after graduating as an engineer you'll obtain a degree in Project management technology or is it before?
Your argument is valid if only the topic said courses taken by Engineering students rather than courses offered by the school.

I totally disagree. We should have centres of excellence that pursue streamlined courses needed for our development. In the developed world even research institutes are degree awarding but deploy their resources to tackle specific needs where there is a knowledge deficit. I hope this encourages particularly the private sector to invest in higher education knowing they can take on just a piece of humanity and specializing in it.
Personally it is my life's dream to establish a degree awarding centre of educative excellence in my profession and my profession only as I can see what is clearly lacking is the depth required to really excel. There is no way spreading of one's resources around can be a good things. Our colleges are gradually being eroded, diluted to grade school levels.

It could be done either way...as an undergraduate course where you will learn project management, project finance, complex project coordination, risk management, analytics and organisational behaviour or as a masters degree after you've specialised in a given field say petroleum engineering.

you just told the truth and that's why management courses are incorporated into the curriculum of engineering and technology discipline.

these schools are not created to award degrees in management but to breach the gap in technological decay in the country and promote local invention. contrary is what you get today.
in fact, it was on the need for technological advancement that lead to the industrial revolution in the 19th century.

also, during the world war, the Nazi used their polytechnic, not universities to discover nerve gas that killed millions during the war.

this things happen because of greedy VCs.
in my sch. (uni agric) facilities for these management courses were hurriedly built, so they could admit more students and make more money wheras the core courses like B.Agric and sciences lack basic structures like labs. lib. and lecture theatres

I wonder why the minister of education will delist these courses in those universities,is there no discipline or profession that doesn't require management? What is wrong with Nigeria? sad sad

Thank Pro Didia Blessing driving the change
Thank you Rivers State House of Assembly for acting on time

The problem with our country is we celebrate incompetence and like playing to the gallery.

A school like MOUAU has sacked about 800 workers in 2017, instead of focusing on how to improve people's like, we prefer to focus on irrelevances..
Re: JAMB Delists Management Courses In Seven Universities by shankara7: 11:11pm On Aug 20, 2017
@ Sirwallace, so because FUTO sacked you as a lecturer in the department of maritime management technology(also your alma mater) because of your corrupt practices, you think this the right platform to pour out your frustration?
