In the days of Oyedepo and Fela Durotoye, Nigeria is not as hard and cracked as it is now.
I stay in self contain in Lagos now, and News bill alone for last month was over N9,000. Despite the fact that I don't watch TV, don't even stay in the house often.
This is not realistic bro.

What's more worrisome about this write-up is the idiots who liked it?. WTF, even as a single girl. My TP to work and other expenses within a month is more than 20k.

God bless you for that decision. They hastily push one into error. Many marriages around i see are nothing but jokes... May God help this generation. I met a childhood friend who stayed in another city in my street recently, i asked guy what's up, he said he was running away from the house that with him being away the landlord won't disturb his family..He started lamenting. this dude was from an Okay family...he ended up his discussion with guy don't go into marriage without 150k per month steady except you want ups and downs... it depends on individuals involved and the I.Q of the guy but in Nigeria today both husband and wife should be able to make 150k monthly to kickstart a marriage..the expenses isn't a joke... feeding, accommodation, transport, cabletv, PHCN,water, family, shop or business..men, all of this on a paltry sum...chai..May God help us get it right..

Fact is millions of Nigerians have no steady legit 20k per month.

So the write up is very useful. Even many NLers talking still rely on parents, siblings, bfs, sugar daddies for 5 or 10k. Nor be 9ja.
In difficult times, managing the little you have is as important as looking for avenues to increase income.

You think unemployed men in their 30s & 40s are not shagging women, getting them preggy & living together/marrying?

Of course they are. It might not be what we deem as ideal. But it is simple reality.

HOW TO GET MARRIED ON A 20K SALARY!

If age is no longer on your side, you have found the woman you want to marry but your salary is the barrier between you and your marital promised land, you earn 20k or a little more per month, your sexual urge is getting uncontrollable, you are over 30 and your fiancee wouldn't mind settling down with you, here is the practical way to survive on a 20k salary!

1. Pay your tithe 10%

2. Save 10%

3. Get a room apartment where you will not be paying more than 2k per month.

4. With neighbours, your NEPA bill should not be more than #500:00.

5. Feeding for both you and wife not more than 10k. Always buy your foodstuff in bulk every month, you will save lots of money.

6. Keep 10% for emergencies, that is 2k.

7. The remaining #1,500 will be shared between you and your wife as pocket money. You 1k, wife, #500.

Now listen: you can only do this on the conditions given below:

1. Your wife will get a job to assist you financially so that both of you will put money together to start a business, look for a higher paying job or run your vision that will yield profits, enlarge you and move to a higher level of comfort and wealth. Discuss this thoroughly in courtship and ensures she agrees. That is what courtship is about: to discuss your future and see if you can walk together (Amos 3:3).

2. No baby for the first 2 years while you both work harder and get something better or extra doing to cater for the baby. Discuss this thoroughly. Visit a family planning clinic and get an advise on which family planning method will work for you. Withdrawal sometimes fail and calculating the ovulation period is not completely reliable but if she is very diligent, can consistently monitor her ovulation, you may take the risk but combining with CD is better (I'm talking to mature adults here).

3. There will be pressure from your family especially your mother for her to get pregnant. Stand up for her, shield her, be a man and let your mum know that for personal reasons, it's your decision for her to delay pregnancy. Marriage is for mature men and women, not for boys and girls. You should be responsible and have the final say in your marriage. Your decisions are between you and your wife, whatever anyone else says is secondary! Protect her from your family, stand up for her!

4. Pray diligently and consistently for God to enlarge you.

5. Map out practical plans for you to achieve your dreams.

6. Have the faith that can move mountains! The Bishop Oyedepo and Fela Durotoye's type of faith: These men had almost nothing when they started but their wives were working and assisted them till they broke through.

You can make it before you get married. You don't have to get married on a salary of 20k. The Lord can surprise you with a better job, profitable business or great contracts before you marry, if not yet then don't wait till you are in your 50s before you settle down.

"Two are better than one..." is what the Holy Book says. With your wife's full support and strong faith in you, you will break through the ceiling of limitation and emerge into your glorious destiny. FEEL FREE TO SHARE. God bless you, cheers!

yeah i understnd.. Most of dem dont actually get married tho. Dy just impregnate a gal and befor u know family don start... All am sayin is dat there r alot of piple wit a family, earnin dis amount of money and even less...dy reali need to see dis write up . In order to know how to manage their family... So thumbs up op
Yea but well, OP did not specify that the write up was directed at a certain category of ppl, which in ur point, would be "those already married and living on 20k a month". To think that some ppl wit 20k who are not yet married will be on this thread seeing this, will bw encouraged to do same, with all the pressures mounting on them to "settle down". So the thread was directed to all......wrongly generalised. I actually speak to the unmarried young men. They dnt have to complicate things for themselves.

....if it can work for 20k,it will work for higher money. its all about planning(to succeed), work/pray harder and grace of God. I made mistake in my last relationship and am paying for it don't fall victim....some women!! hmm.

You obviously need the sense more than I do. There's nothing wrong in being broke but there's definitely something wrong if one is broke without meaningful plans on how to get out of it.

In today's Nigeria, tell me how realistic 20K with a wife and bills to pay is?.

I guess calling out those of you who liked the post stroke a nerve.

exactly my point. These days the liabilities of marriage is more than it's profit.
I see marriages of my friends,I see through their acting that all is fine. I was shocked to my bones when my own father could open his own mouth and say you children of this generation are complaining about marriage, even our own generation we patch our marriage, we only tolerate and adjust to each other in marriage.many times we can't stand each other but when we remember what society will say we will just stay put

I didn't even bother giving him a reply, I just stylishly excused myself

Marriage in Africa is extremely overhyped.they paint it as an achievement before you enter, after entering the reality hits you and there's nowhere to go

Maybe we'll both disagree on this part. I agree with your father and tag with him on this. We have become so in love with ourselves we can't bear each other. Check the comments on the romance section. Check the contents of our music and movies, guys don't trust ladies, ladies won't compromise. It takes compromise to live with a person for a lifetime , a skill modern teachers tell you not to do and the society says is maga. No marriage can ever last without some form of compromise at some point and our ladies these days have become somewhat cold, the guys are write-offs , under-developed and lack stability. I wished i could paint a good picture about marriage in Nigeria but sadly i can't...

I teamed up with some old friends in ministry and one dude i used to know as super-spiritual told me this, only three out of ten marriages in our generation will stand...

Press toothpaste from middle, war breaks out, come in after 7pm it's a war, say this statement, you're hurting me. Say it the other way, you're anti-women and a woman hater, we've become too knowledgeable its now wounding us, yet we go on hurting with being single, can't tolerate people and want to be married...

And that first statement of yours, many marriages are acting, or two hommies leaving together forgetting the essence aka substance of marriage, the soul is gone, the shell is only what's left...

May God help us

Alot of you are here shouting proverty mentality. God forbid! It good we forbid situations like this. But in real life, like life here in naija. I know a place where family men are paid less dan 25k per month 7 working days a week but on shift. The truth of the matter is, men do alot of this to survive and to provide for them families.

Some of these men once had good jobs and when doing well until things turn a wrong turn.

All you can do is pray for your own break through. For the fact that things are going well for you does not give you the right to look down on others.

For me that is a nice piece from the op. It might work for some persons.

I know also know someone who earn 130k but always in debt.

Person wey get head no get cap, person wey get cap no get head. We wey get both head and cap, thank God and pray for other. Chikena!
