The one with the record version of him going to America still rings in my ears and the one with Adisa, where he roped him that he stole the King's dog

grin

I wish I can get my hands on some of his works now.

His appearance alone makes me laugh.

And you know what, they can sign too. There was a complete song album made for " Orun Mu Ooru" and it was above average.

Albert Ogunde albums had some deep messages for discerning minds then.

Sincerely my brother. These men of substance did nice jobs. Of recent I watched a Hollywood movie on the internet titled MR JOHNSON where Hubert Ogunde featured. I learnt white people came to Nigeria then to study our stories for film adaptation.
Besides was it true that the movie Orun Mo'oru made Baba Sala bankrupt?

Yes, Orun Mooru is a classic comedy and drama depicting that poverty doesn't kill but excessive affluence and indulgence in high life..

It was a film that was watched in cinemas in the 80s and Baba Sala is in the league of legends like Hubert Ogunde, Ade Love, Akin Ogungbe and so on

He borrowed heavily from the defunct National Bank to produce the film titled Orun Mooru with collateral and heavy interest.. The film was meant to be watched in cinemas but it was pirated and began to be sold everywhere.. Even my dad had the video and since everybody had the film at home, no one watched in cinemas again and that ruined him till date..

He made other films like Mosebolatan and Aare Agbaye but not as popular as Orun Mooru...

His major protegee is King Sunny Ade and a very popular comedian in the early 90s called Obalende.

The old man deserves respect for his great talent..

Yes, Orun Mo'oru was produced using bank loan. People got hold of the tape duplicated it and put it on VCR cassettes. This made several people not to pay to see the movie at the cinemas which was where you recoup your money back then.

I think that was even his last major work.

Orun Morun has many songs and some are:

1. Ile Ayo
2. Iku kii pani ayo lo npani
3.Omo Araye, e MA so iku lenu

I remember those songs because l watched the film in cinema with my family and later my dad bought the pirated copy in black market

I also remember the songs very well because we practiced and sang them during our cultural days in school..

My favorite is....

I love those songs and l can't believe I still remember them more than 30 years later..

Thanks @Lagospikin for this eye opener. I remembered back then that dad took us to watch Mosebolatan at Sokoto Stadium then, but like you said, it was not a hit like Orun Mo'oru. He later produced another titled Diamond. I did not know how far that went. These are the real people that should be celebrated. Besides who played the character of Iya Sala then that had a funny accent? I was too small to remember these casts then, I don't know if you could help with that if some of them are still alive.

Iya Sala was Aduke George (she is late now)... Other major casts are: Adisa (the educated and enlightened character and the one constantly correcting Baba Sala and bailing him out of his self-induced troubles) then there is Baba Legba, Kari-Ile his dumb and deaf village wife, (that's the one with the funny way of speaking because she is half deaf) Asipe a thug , Obalende, and others... Mainly his Achiles heels are always light skinned women (omo pupa)...

Such comical lot alongside Baba sala.. grin grin grin grin
