true, but despite the fact that the atheist is uncertain, most of the ones on nairaland do not act like are, they look down on religious people and scoff at their beliefs. Surely, that shouldn't be the way someone searching for answers should act. One would expect that they will respect other people's views, because they themselves do not know how we came to be, but the reverse is always the case.

Why would you call something you don't understand irrational? before now, it would have sounded logical to believe in a geocentric universe, if we were to base our thinking on just what we see, because to the layman the earth physically, does not seem to be carrying out active motion. does it really mean the earth is static? would it be wise to mock those that belief In a moving earth?





The only reason Why that seem to be the case, is because they are in the minority, try and imagine Nigeria being populated with the kind of atheists you see here on nairaland, the situation will be far worse.

I grew up in a religious country, studied and worked in another religious country(India). Living in different cultures showed how powerful religion and its ideas are.
I also understood that God is as one has 'heard' him to be - personal experience is called personal experience for a reason.

Firstly, it very presumptive and arrogant of you to say or imply that atheist don't understand religion. 99 to 100% of atheists on Nairaland were once religious, and deal with religious people all their lives. I am confident that I, and most Nairaland atheists know and understand more about religion, the psychology of religion, the history of most religions than you and perhaps the far majority of Nigerian Christians.

To prove your hypocrisy here, just take a look at the front page of the religious section , and tell us how many atheist threads you count compared to the number of Christian threads.
I mean, 100,000 pastors (my estimate) mount to pulpits, the airwaves, street banners, on buses, on the road every single day in Nigeria berating non-believers, those that don't buy their Middle East stone- age bullshytes. We hardly complain publicly because we are outnumbered 1 million to 1.
We find our voices online to rebut the bullshytes that you poison our society with.

For some reasons I I've tried confining my argument to belief in God or the existence of God as a concept and not the different methods devised by men to worship Him, which sometimes, people take undue advantage of, to perpetuate mischief
What I said about ignorance was referring to your inability to explain the cause of material existence yet being so sure it is not God, you can't explain the origin of life yet you're so sure there's no brain behind it.
