Osun gave more than it got? Guys over there must be wolves.

Funny enough in 2009 when I did my national service in Ipetumodu, Osun State, the Prince of Okuku was governor and Aregbesola wanted to take over. He looked like he was the messiah.

Its really funny how these things work and how peoples hope get well ruined by their people in government.

The truth is the Igbos are not even contributing anything in Nigeria. The oil is hugely found in the South South. So afonja Kanu is greedy and selfish by misleading the Igbo people for self determination.

How come Osun state is always at the bottom of every chart? Enlighten me please.

This is actually very small to run a state

Imagine my state imo with over 3million people with 17bn in 6 months ??

If every individual is taxed 5k a month that's 15bn every month and with that we will get our desired development and we will have reason to hold our governors accountable

But no we decide to spend far more to achieve nothing

A typical car owner in Nigeria will spend 400k a years averagely to maintain his cars

But as him to pay a tax of 10k a month for road maintaince that will save his car he will protest

We have over 11 million cars in Nigeria ...if on average each pays 10k every month that's 110bm that's over 1.2 trillion on road maintaince

Say federal government takes 30% and states 70% of what you contribute tell me why we would have bad roads

A very good contribution, but think about it. Do we have credible leaders who will judiciously utilize the hard fetch tax payers money, when it is obvious that such money will go to a private purse, later you see them claiming to be the richest man in Africa. Our munmun don do

So, what business do some of the rich states have with owing salaries?

Bayelsa, is a typical example of a FAILED STATE if we compare her level of development to her income.

Is this also as a result of FG or failure to restructure?

God bless you for this comment. See the allocation Bayelsa state has yet most of her parts are still in a sorry state.

How can Bayelse with just 8 local governments and a poplulation of 1.7million people owe salaries and remain grossly underdeveloped despite earning more than states with 6 times its size and population?

Our problem as a nation is definitely not due to lack of resources, but corruption and bad leadership. Trust me, this will not go away even if Nigeria is splitted to different entities. It won't also go away by replacing the old crop of leaders with younger ones as the youths are as bad as it comes.

Is there a solution? There is no solution, at least not in this generation. We are bad, cruel, desperate and very corrupt inside out. There is no hope for Nigeria.
Talk about Osun state. Stop living an Ostrich life

you can use this to assess the performance of your state Governor.
Governors should be rated base on the resources avalaible, and how well they have applied the income to better the lives of their people. Because there are Governors with lower allocations that are performing very well but because they are not building flyovers and bridges, sadly nobody talks about them.

Abeg go siddon. What else are they doing apart from paying salaries. Oil revenue, VAT, duties, royalties, taxes all go to pay 5% of the population. The rest of the population pay themselves and provide everything else for life and living.

Where things work properly your idea would make sense. Road taxes are paid abroad. And govts are very accountable.

OBJ spent around $20bilion on roads and yet no results. Also consider affordability of 10k monthly to an average civil servant. In addition to having to fuel his gen and provide his own water, pay his kids' medical bills and others due to govt irresponsibility.

Govt needs to do things properly first with the what they have now. And citizens will pay if they can expect real goodies.

But while spending scarce resources on govt officials medical trips, people would be very sceptical.

IS THE SHARING ACCORDING TO THEIR POPULATION
dont really think so, though population might be one of the criteria. what comes out of a state like VAT(value added tax), crude oil etc. influences the sharing higher

For most states this are minimal

Even if that is true, it is not enough to use as excuses.

Many years ago, during ex-Gov Attah's administration, he demanded for "resources control" for the states, few understood him or his vision and his efforts were frustrated.

Today everybody is talking restructuring and economic devolution, which is tantamount to demanding for resources control without using the phrase "resources control"

Most of the state governors thrive on the local government allocation.

The would rather appoint caretakers to man those local councils and give them peanut.

Yes. It is the failure of the system which only restructuring can address. And please do not call it income because it is not. States get grants. Income is the product of work or investmment and as far as I know Bayelsa has no investment in the oil industry so how is it an oil rich state. And since they are grants there is no accountability and since there is no accountability there will be financial impropriety manifest as poverty. Restructure and Bayelsa will find money to invest in oil production and the income from that will be managed properly. Why? Because those who give them the money will demand accountability just as they do from Dangote and other private citizens. It is the structure that matters. If Dangote was receiving a free 15 billion every month without anyone asking questions he will not be where he is today. Remember Dangote is not from an 'oil rich' state.
