This a welcome development here in Africa! These so called politicians both incumbent and oppositions believes that they can most time commit electioneering crime and go free. May God redeem Africa and purge all bad things known with the continent out of it

Of a truth kenya is way ahead of Nigeria.

Can u see an independent judiciary system. ..

Can Nigeria judiciary do same...
I doubt...

Shame on the Nigerian judiciary cos of Ghana most go money, u sold ur sacred institution.
Nigerian courts, while not perfect, have annulled election results in the past.

I understand what the court is trying to achieve, but there will be more bloodshed in Kenya with this. At times, you allow illegalities to stand for a greater good.
Wow. Little wonder why Nigeria is like this! Senselessness everywhere.

It is a welcome development, but it won't stop election irregularities.

As someone once said, we can have a group of perfect individuals running our electoral system, and all it just takes are a few thugs with weapons.....

Election results have been annulled by the courts in Nigeria before....just not at the presidential level
Obviously. Presidential is the bone of contention here. It's easier to annul the others when powers at the presidential level wants it done.

Africa and democracy are an incompatible pair. Always strong men muscling their way into power either by force of arms or ballot manipulation.

Africans are truly waking up. This country(as in Nigeria) belongs to all of us Nigerians (and that's how it applies to other Africans in their countries. So let's not allow any one man or one man and his family take us for fools because he is made president.
Power belongs to the people. And brings development.
That's why in advanced countries, when u want to talk, they will first ask u " are u elected by your people". Once the answer is no, they tell u to keep quiet.

There is no rationale for justifying an illegality!
An injustice permitted today ia an anarchy endorsed tomorrow!

You make a lot of sense.

Fact is, courts cannot, on their own ensure free and fair elections in any society. It has to be the job of the people and other institutions to make sure that elections are free and fair.

Having said that,if a court allowed irregularities to slide 'for the greater good' we could set a precedent that would allow worse things to happen later on. And a good argument can be made that most African countries are in trouble because people do not feel that they would get justice at the court (which leads to miscarriages of justice like the Aluu 4 situation).

Speaking as a Kenyan, the irregularities were too glaring. Everything from computer algorithms to fake polling stations to improbable results

yes o. That's how a supreme court acts when there's true separation of power among the executive, the legislature and the judiciary

IN the Nigerian situation, that problem can be solved by holding the presidential election at least 6 months before inauguration day....which would give adequate time for all litigation to be sorted out, and enough time for evidence to be collected.

Fact is, most legal challenges to the presidential election in Nigeria suffer from time constraints. One has less than 6 weeks to present a case...which isn't enough time.

And IPAD keeps blaming bubu. I think Saraki is a bigger problem to Nigerians than buhari. Amend existing law nope, they want new SUV's. God punish devil and em children
is it saraki alone that voted against devolution of powers to state?
The problem of this country is the NORTH, which buhari is their CHIEF-WHIP. They want all other zones to move at their own pace.

Good move.

The interesting thing is how the Supreme Court found a poll (validated by foreign journalists and Twitteratti as being free and fair) to be marred by sufficient irregularities warranting anullment.

huh huh
Happens when judiciary is independent and DSS doesn't go breaking down Judges doors at dusk.
Good one Kenya.

You speak like a corrupt Nigerian politician

Illegality only leads to further illegality.
And can never produce any greater good

Whatever is illegal, is illegal to the existent of its illegality.
