good one. Chai. I missed those days when the house(thread) was small... It is now superbig(gathering over 1000views) in a day. Kudos to the founding papas. shoutout to our national team thread creators Sir. Joseph1013, Terzurum5, robosky02 Okpeyan... Your faith in the national teams are now yielding fruits.
Yes sir, me too, I couldn't participate fully due to other commitments, even now, I am active here because of the holiday. We have seen brilliant ideas from this thread resulting actual decisions of the coaching crew, from scouting/inviting players to tactical decisions and the rest of them, to the extent that some of us surmised that Rohr or/and his agents has been visiting this thread smiley

I respect and appreciate the Honourables that kept faith with the thread, and saw to it that the purpose of the thread is well served. The thread is soaring high as the Eagles soared high above the lions yesterday. The thread is simply blessed!

Thank you sir and God bless smiley

Welcome back Thesupernerd, glad to see your breathtaking comments. I thankGod you also spotted the need for Iheanacho's SS/AM position. He is definitely better at it. Iheanacho in the CF role is like a leader who acquired leadership skills which was not initially inbuilt in him to some level . He doesn't have those innate personality qualities of an ideal CF. An example is how you said he wouldn't have scored that goal Ighalo scored. For him to have ran in a way that Mikel could easily find in with such pass and so on. I have watched him. Playing him in a CF position can be likened to taking a fish out of water and placing it on a field and expecting it to thrive on the field like it thrives on the water. But in this Rohr's favorite 4-3-3 formation, it will be okay to keep playing him as a CF , but that will be if there is no better striker. I'm glad someone still shares this opinion with mesmiley

As regards Onazi, before the game, I said mikel should ensure discipline between Onazi and Ndidi and I was elated by what I saw. I also like Onazi making those runs to deliver crosses. It reminded me of his cross to Ameobi that resulted to the second goal against Italy in a 2-2 friendly tie.

Above all, it was all the Lord's doing.
My Oga which formation did we used yesterdays, pls coz i have a point to prove to someone here, remember telling Michael2 that 4-3-3 w nail Cameroon but disagreed with me and i remember some thumb him up.

I think the Blueto inspiration came from being a Chelsea fan as at then, so I coined it to suit my affinity with the club. But now that I don't support offshore football clubs anymore, I would love to change the moniker if I had the option on Nairaland.

Our formation look like a 4-2-1-3 on attack, and 4-4-2 when defending. leaving Odion and Victor up front. But his rwb side kept surfacing. thats the only thing that makes him better than sanchez.

If that be the case then I will go with Ndidi for the DM role and I will play Onazi as the CMF but I doubt Ndidi maintaining discipline during the course of the game because he loves going gung-ho and foraging forward, it's in his blood.

If FIFA clears Aina I think he's the best man for the RB slot.

Oga sir, I can infer from the lineup that it was 4-3-3, because of the three man midfield which consisted of Mikel, Ndidi and Onazi, and three man attack of V.Moses, Ighalo and S.Moses. Although it is possible to have them play with 4-2-3-1 with the same set of players, but I'm convinced that the coach used the 4-3-3 formation yesterday.

@bolded.... that is a fact my friend. and I am sure you know why I said that. wink I Love Nacho but that goal had Raw power, and physicality written all over it combined with great technique. Ngadjui would have body checked Nacho out of the equation before Nacho even had the chance to control that ball but he couldn't try it with Lord Odion... cheesy

Ighalo simply nailed it...... Power, pace, strength and Technique all rolled into one. Nacho has technique and pace but power to out muscle Ngadjui? naaah... strength to shrug off his challenge? nope... not present too... This is why Nacho could never score the goal Ighalo scored. He got his own improvised style in approaching his game as a CF which comes with its own limitations.... as it is not his strongest position.

Nacho is still a viable back-up option in the CF role only under certain circumstances now... but his best bet for us remains in the AM/SS roles.

Well said Again Sir Blueto.... your fingers drop Gold comments this weekend. wink

Did you listen to late Earnest Okonkwo?

The way he was calling those intimidating Cameroonian names in that Cameroon Vs Nigeria, 1990 WC qualifiers is still echoeing I my memory.

At a point we didn't even hear Nigerian names again na only names like : "..and Makanaki finds Mbou-Mbou who gives it to Omam Biyik. Omam Biyik finds his brother Kana Biyik who gives it to his captain Emmanuel Kunde. He passes the ball telegraphically to Rodger Miller who lays the ball swiftly to Bonaventure...." na only " ..and Alloy Agu comes to the rescue" we just dey hear. Nigeria went into that game to defend.

We celebrated when the first half ended goaless. Na second half them knack us the akpako. Pessin wan piss for body that day because of fear.

Cameroon Coach Surrenders, Admits Lions’ World Cup Dream Over

By Kayode Ogundare (Pix: Ganiyu Salami) in Uyo:

Indomitable Lions of Cameroon are out of the race to Russia 2018 World Cup race after succumbing to a heavy 4-0 loss to Nigeria Friday evening, according to the manager of the team Hugo Broos.

Goals from Odion Ighalo, captain Mikel Obi and second half efforts by Victor Moses and substitute Kelechi Iheanacho condemned Cameroon to their heaviest defeat ever in the hands of the Super Eagles.

A downcast Broos, who had talked tough in the days preceding the game admitted that the African champions have no hope of making it to their eigtht World Cup final appearance.

“The second leg is not important again. We don’t have a chance of reaching the World Cup. Russia 2018 won’t happen for us,” he moaned.

The Belgian tactician also admitted that his side didn’t play well and their experience did not count at the end of the day.

He said: “If you have the experience but didn’t play well on the day then your experience does not count. We lost today to a better team.”

With the result, Nigeria now have nine points from three games while Cameroon are stuck on two. The two sides play against each other again on Monday at the Stade Ahmadu Ahidjo in Yaounde.

I think it's not over yet because statistically speaking, Cameron can still qualify if they can win their games. So, I am not deceive by this coach sweet deceiving mouth.

We need to get a win or at least a draw in Yaounde and nail it with a win at home against Zambia. Shikena!

We don't need to start praying for others to have bad results though it would be good it those favor us.

It will be best to see Nigeria qualify for the world cup on Monday, so that other players like Dessers that have shown interests in Nigeria can be capped and including yet uncapped players like Ebuechi (or however it is spelt), thereby allowing the likes of Moses to focus on their clubs by inviting the new in players in place of them for the remaining matches in the qualifying campaign. Then the NFF can intensity their approaches for the likes of Tammy and introduce them in the friendly matches that will serve as preparations for the world cup proper.

Mozez Praize did OK but the other local voice was that of Raphael Chukwu Ndukwe, an ex-international. I no know who send am go commentary box.

Gone are the days of good commentators. The likes of Legendary Ernest Okonkwo. Fabio Olanipeku too did OK. Hameed Adio was also OK. There was also Manasara ilo. Aisha Falode ran commentaries for the Great Super Falcons of the 1990s. All of the NTA and Radio Nigeria (Okonkwo).

You wan try radio commentaries those days? Person wey get high blood pressure no fit listen to radio commentaries. Ball go dey centre circle commentators go begin shout. And by the time the ball reach the 18yards box the shouting from the commentator will be such that everything in your house would be vibrating already. " A chance for Nigeria!!!! it is a....!!!! it is a....!!!! o no!!!!!!!!! over the bar!!!!!!!!...."

Then away games of WC qualifiers were never showed live. We only listened to live commentaries. The Cameroon Vs Nigeria game of 1990 WC qualifiers, That was the last game of the qualifiers. We needed just a draw to make it to the world cup. There were several reported cases of people fainting in their homes listening to the commentaries during that game. The tension was too much and then the radio commentators now worsened it.

Elders in the house I know you can recall those memories. Hahahaha

I understand that point. But you still need to consider that the team needs to build momentum towards Russia.

I agree that some up coming players be given a look-in but I don't agree that we let the more established players focus on their clubs.

Forget that SA game. It was just an anomaly. We know we lost due to the absence of key senior players. This team is improving with each game. Check from the Tanzania game to the Zambia game, Algeria game and this last game. We need not hault this momentum. Any new player added must do better than the previous player in that position.

New players would be tried but it will not be a free for all. Again I say we still invite our best for the remaining matches.

Also, we need to improve our FIFA ranking cos I am sure you know top teams are seeded for the WC grouping. And the 2019 AFCON grouping would be done based on FIFA rankings.

It has to do with approach. If you are playing with the team pressed up, most forward players pressing the opponents defence, you will not need all that physicality. However in this game, we chose to sit back and needed a tough fighter warring the Camerounians defence.

Worked well but actually not my taste. I prefer pressed up attacking football and that is where you do not need physicality in finishing.

Either way, Rohr made the right calls when it concerned Strategic, tactical and personnel choices.

Rohr: How I selected Cameroon Killer Squad

By Kayode Ogundare (Pix: Ganiyu Yusuf) in Uyo

Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr said the players made his job of selecting the right team easier for him by their attitude to work since the first day of camping and it was no surprise to him that the Indomitable Lions were defeated in such a dominant manner.

Speaking at a post-match conference after the 4-0 victory on Friday, the German-born tactician said the team played with maturity and worked for each other all through the game.

“It was not difficult to pick the first 11. All the players in camp are good enough to play. They showed extensive intelligence and played with maturity. We beat a very good team but we also showed what we are capable of doing.”

Rohr also explained that his gameplan against Cameroon was simple and easy to interprete by the players.

He said: “Our goal was to play ground football and exploit Ighalo’s fitness and footwork. We also knew we had to defend with intelligence because Cameroon have big physical players. We worked on corner-kicks in training and actually scored one goal from a corner.”

The Super Eagles ran out comfortable 4-0 winners and are scheduled to play the reverse fixture in Yaounde on Monday.

Adepoju Surprised By Super Eagles’ Destruction Of Cameroon, Praises Mikel, Ighalo
By James Agberebi

As reactions continue to pour in following the Super Eagles 4-0 thrashing of Cameroon in the Group B 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Uyo on Friday, former Nigeria international Mutiu Adepoju has admitted that he was surprised by the scoreline, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The Eagles made it three straight wins in Group B thanks to the emphatic win against the reigning African champions inside the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Goals from Odion Ighalo, Mikel Obi, Victor Moses and substitute Kelechi Iheanacho saw the Eagles extend their points to nine and seven points clear of Cameroon who are in second place on two points.

“It was a massive one, no one expected that the scoreline would be four against Cameroon but I saw Nigeria winning,” Adepoju, who won the Africa Cup of Nations with the Super Eagles in 1994, told Completesportsnigeria. com on Saturday.

“The guys did well. In the beginning Cameroon came out very tough but when our players settled into the game everything started to go well and they made the Cameroonians to be ordinary.

“I have to commend Odion Ighalo and Mikel Obi for their contribution in the attack. Ighalo went strength to strength with the Cameroon defenders and even committed them to getting yellow cards and also using his strength to score the first goal.

“Victor Moses too had a very good game, Simon Moses had an outstanding game and Ezenwa did very well by instilling confidence from the beginning.

“I believe everyone of them did well and I believe if they continue like this it will be a very good one for the team.”
Looking ahead to the second leg on Monday in Yaoundé,
Adepoju tasks the Eagles to secure qualification for the World Cup with two games to spare.

He added: “We have gained confidence by the massive win against them. I would want them to approach the game the same way they did in the first leg.

“A draw will not be a bad result but I still believe it is possible to get the qualification ticket right there in Yaoundé. It will be nice to secure qualification before the end of the qualifiers.”

Also, we need to improve our FIFA cos I am sure you know top teams are seeded for the WC grouping. And the 2019 AFCON grouping would be done based on FIFA rankings.
You're very right sir. If Nigeria can make it close to or into the top 10 teams in the world before the world, that will come in handy during world cup and afcon draws as you implied, which may result to Nigeria not having the likes of Argentina to content with in the group stages.

And also, the momentum can continue to be gathered from subsequent games with regular players with gradual introduction of the new ones. As Mikel said in his interview, the players needs directions and balance. And playing with the regular players can fetch them that.
