About 55 husbands in Lagos have reported how their wives battered them

- Adeniji Kazeem, the Lagos state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice revealed that more men were now coming forward to report cases of domestic violence against them

- He announced that Governor Ambode, has made provision to provide empowerment designed for survivors of domestic violence

In the last eight months, a total of 55 husbands reported how their wives battered them to the Lagos State Government in renewed cases of domestic violence in the state.

Adeniji Kazeem, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lagos state, at a media briefing in Ikeja, on Tuesday, September 5, revealed that more men were now coming forward to report cases of violence against them by their women.

He noted: “There had been 55 cases of men reporting domestic violence against them by their wives between January 2017 and now as against 14 that was recorded last year. Between January and September 2017, a total of 852 cases of domestic violence and related cases were recorded in Lagos State. "

He also said that the data revealed that most of s*xual assault cases were perpetrated in the afternoon during weekdays, while corroborating that the victims knew 95 per cent of the perpetrators of sexual violence.

This alarming discovery he said necessitated the need to embark on sensitisation campaigns for parents on parenting skills, child abuse prevention tips , training for children on child’s rights, child abuse, safety and how to preserve evidence.

He also announced that the Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has approved the establishment of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Fund to amongst other things, provide empowerment designed specifically for survivors of domestic violence.

While some of the cases have been charged to court, Mr. Kazeem said the State Government through the Ministry of Youth and Social Development and other stakeholders have provided shelter for the survivors.

Aside that, the commissioner said all the survivors of sexual assault received medical attention from comprehensive Primary Health Care Centres and referral centres, among other efforts to properly rehabilitate and re-integrate them into the society.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE APPLIES TO BOTH PARTIES, THEY SHOULD WORK ON THEIR MARRIAGE OR LEAVE IT TO AVOID GETTING KILLED VIA AN ABUSE. NUFFSAID.

Their tribe is of no importance here.
The issue on ground is the act.

Some of those men might be disabled, we read of one like that here.
Some might be playing the 'gentleman' card.
Some might be weaker physically...

They are definitely more than 55. The rest are too shy to speak up, fear of getting mocked. Freeze the OAP comes to mind.

Walk away from abusive partners. That's if it can't be fixed... as our NL guys will always say 'women watch your mouth'. It's not by watching mouth. Some people are just not okay...

Even the example you gave is Yoruba. That even buttresses my point.

Sometimes it's a case of men having been taught not to be physical against women, even in self-defence so he doesn't hit back because of conditioning, she may also be using a weapon etc. Also, it's not common, but some women can be stronger than men (the man in question sha).

It's these kinds of comments that discourage men from speaking up

Like Chris Rock said, "Ain't nobody above an ass whoopin'!"

Let's get d law straight - it's wrong to hit a woman - but when someone hits you -whether male, female or even child - you are entitled by law to defend yourself.

I've never hit a woman, but the day a woman will hit me & think I'll form gentleman, grin no amount of foundation will hide the bruises I'll leave on her face.

It's called "self defence".

Simple.

Dude no matter how you try to justify this, it's totally awkward for such. Just because you don't wanna get physical with your wife doesn't mean you blab like one.
