The vice president of the defunct Republic of Biafra, Late General Phillip Effiong, may have died with regrets - This indication was given by his kinsman, Elder Enefiok Ekefre - He urged the federal government to give the Effiong family the same privileges given to Late Chukwuemeka Odimegwu family after his death A chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom state, Elder Enefiok Ekefre, has alleged that the Igbos abandoned Late General Philip Effiong who he said died a Biafran rebel. Ekefre made the comment in an interview with Vanguard, even as he chided the Igbos for abandoning the Late Effiong. He lamented that Effiong, the vice president of the defunct Republic of Biafra who died in 2003, was not given the amnesty accorded to Late Ojukwu by the federal government. General Effiong was the vice president of the defunct Biafra Republic. His words: “The Igbo are expecting support forgetting that they all looked the other way and allowed General Effiong who made the historic declaration that ended the bloody civil war to live and die a Biafra rebel while Ojukwu died a Nigerian Army General. “General Philip Effiong, an Ibiono Ibom man, was the vice president to Ojukwu. Mr. M. U. Akpan, the Secretary to the Government of Biafra (SGB) was also from Ibiono. General Effiong signed the instrument of surrender but when the Igbo were talking of payment of gratuity and pension, they only presented General Ojukwu and refused to mention General Effiong. “He lived and died a Biafran military officer but Ojukwu’s rank was restored with salaries and gratuity paid from 1966. Today, the Igbo are complaining of marginalization and oppression, forgetting that justice and injustice should not be selective.” Ekefre appealed to the federal government to make adequate compensation for the family of the late General Effiong in the spirit of true reconciliation and justice. He said the agitation by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) was ill-timed, stressing that “the Igbo had President Goodluck Jonathan from South-south, Senate President from South-east, Secretary to the Government of the Federation government, minister of finance and General Azubike Ihejirika as Chief of Army Staff, and they could not ask for their republic then.” He also lamented that the south-south, south-east and south-west regions are not united. Meanwhile, Nigerian novelist, Chimamanda Adichie, has debunked quotes attributed to her which gave the impression that she was in support of the Biafran agitation in some news websites. Wow that's something. The guy who ended the war gets no pardon. Funny enough the one started it and ran away gets pardon. I know pardon aren't a right but still interesting none the less. “He lived and died a Biafran militaryFront Page: Lalasticlala Mynd44 |

Apart from Ojukwu , which other Biafran soldier was giving the said privileges? The fg may have reasons for recognizing only Ojukwu and it is their fault not that of the Igbo. Must every problems be blamed on the Igbo? I once heard that in the abandoned ppty saga it was only Ojukwu that got all his back. the rest of igbo affected didn't. the fact the General Effiong was not recognized affected so many other biafrans that are Igbos themselves. so it is another huge instance if the faliour of Nigeria to properly address the problems that emanated from that war |

Ojukwu personally Came with Truck loads of MASSOB members and hijacked the man casket from the Nigerian Army during his funeral service and Buried him at His local government Secretariat. where his remains lies ,I think the place is now a cenotaph. |

You are the incoherent one here who keeps "shifting the goal post". Both you and the PAID APC GOON blamed "IGBO" for Effiong's fate. And when your igbo hating lie got debunked, you quickly posted this crap to shift the blame to Ojukwu. So why demonize the entire Igbo ethnic group in your first post since you think Ojukwu was to blame? And finally, contrary to your mischief, Gen. Effiong died without any iota of regret about Biafra. Thus, you and that old but heartless PAID APC GOON should verify from Dr. Effiong Jr. before showcasing your Igbo-loathing mania to the world. laudate: |

Ojukwu went to exile with Dr M.I Okpara while Ojukwu was pardoned Dr M.I Okpara was banned from participating in Nigeria politics until he died. |

paschu:Ehn, everyone knows that the affliction worrying you, is what is making you incoherent. Where exactly in my first or last post did I blame or demonize the entire Igbo race? What was the lie inside any of my comments? Go back and read what I wrote with an open mind if you can, and stop projecting your hate-filled tendencies into my remarks. Maybe you are the one paying goons to support your myopic position on social media, who knows? That is probably why you can easily make reference to such things. And my question still stands: When Ojukwu was busy getting his own pardon from the federal govt, did he make a case to the same govt that the ranks and entitlements of those who fought alongside him in Biafra, should be restored? If you do not like that question, please hug the nearest transformer with wet hands or jump into the nearest lagoon, with your hate-filled soul! You will not be missed! ![]() |

I don't have time for idiots. If you are coherent you'd know that the OP did not say that Ojukwu abandoned Gen. Effiong. He said that Igbos did. And you sought to reinforce the lie with the following poo. laudate:Seen it yet? Now, as I said earlier, I have no time for idiots. [s] laudate:[/s] |

Napoleondegreat:I agree on two points it's not the Igbo collective fault. Second the federal government has it political motives like always. My point of contention is Ojukwu didn't push harder for his other guys. He wanted to be buried a Nigerian soldier at end of the day. Lastly Nigeria doesn't owe the Biafran soldiers the same deal. Pardons aren't a right as you know. |

paschu:And I do not have time for lunatics. Yes, I stated clearly that 'everyone who was not Igbo that fought for Biafra was either humiliated, abandoned or executed on flimsy charges. How sad!' Abi, na lie? Now, in what way does that translate into demonising the entire Igbo race? And where is the lie in those comments? Please point it out. It is so clear, that you are reading my comments through your hate-filled lens, which is why you can ascribe such crap to my words. I stand by each and every word I have posted on this thread. Others have even said worse things than I have stated on this thread, but you did not jump up and down, to start ranting and raving at them. Instead, you turned your hateful eyes in my direction, by claiming I reinforced someone else's comment. I really don't care about what you think. If you do not like my comments, biko - it is your headache! Like I told you before, you are free to hug the nearest transformer, if you don't like it! ![]() |

What do you mean by "Ojukwu did not push harder?" ![]() Was it a negotiation? From one lip you claimed that pardon was not a right and was not owed to the Biafrans. Yet, from the other lip you blame Ojukwu for not pushing harder. Do you even realize that Ojukwu could not have returned to Nigeria alive without the so called pardon? Blue3k: |

laudate:Cant you read? The ex Nigerian soldiers/ Biafran soldiers were pardoned and paid their gratuity and pension in 2012. The entitlements were there, Ojumwu went and collected his own. If Effiong didnt go to collect his own, it means he wasnt interested. But it all goes to show that this thread is a big lie as we now know that Effiong and others were pardoned and their entitlements made available which is what they claim never happend. |
| Re: General Effiong Died A Biafran Rebel -ekefre by Blue3k(m): 1:58pm On Sep 07, 2017 |
paschu:Both statements aren't mutually exclusive. Before Ojukwu came to Nigeria he was called and they talked about these issues. Pardons aren't right but you can always talk and state your case. |

attackgat:You are the one who cannot read! Start from all the posts that were made on this thread. Ojukwu collected his properties, pardon and benefits, but never fought for the entitlements of those who were with him in Biafra, so they could get the same thing! That is the point! Effiong died in 2003, before the fed govt started paying those pension benefits in 2011. This is what was written in the report you were referring to:Military Pensions Board, MPB, has said the late elder statesman, Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu alongside other pardoned soldiers that fought on the side of the defunct Biafra during the Nigeria Civil war, have been paid their pensions and arrears totaling N1.5billion by the Federal Government. In fact, there is another different record that says it was the late Gen. Effiong who led delegations to the federal govt, to ask that the benefits accruing to the ex-Biafra servicemen should be paid! Again, beyond his roles in Biafra’s surrender and efforts to set the records right, Gen. Effiong spent a great deal of effort trying to secure the military benefits and entitlements of the former Nigerian soldiers of eastern origin who fought on the Biafran side. He led delegations and rallies to the Federal Government in Abuja to attract attention to the need to settle these soldiers even though the Obasanjo/Danjuma establishment was not moved. Obviously, like many others after the war, it would have been easier for Gen. Effiong to go behind and try to use whatever connections he had in the army to secure only his own benefits. But true to his form, he thought it a mark of betrayal and insensitivity to fight only for his own benefits while the rest of the affected eastern officers were left in the rain. So he decided instead to take up the cause of all the affected soldiers. |
