why will a country spend 1.8trillion naira on a 3 thousands MW electricity? Mismanagement and corruption are they not of the same parent?

Not sustainable, not clean, not renewable and not efficient.
coal fired power plants generates the highest amount of MW in Asia and u say is not efficient?

I hope you understand the implications we are talking about here. if not go online and educate yourself about global warming. The fact that someone did something does not mean you must copy
My friend u ar talking about building castles in the air.
Is generators all over houses in nigeria less harzadous??
We dont have stable power period. We can only a get there by harnessing every thing we have in all regions.
Wind and solar in the north, dams in the central/ coal in the east/ gas in south . Thats how most serious nations get there. China use more of dams. They've got the land n rivers. But japan use more of nuclear because they have the raw marterials n technology n discipline. We never gonna get there by doing same things n expecting a diff result period.

We need to understudy how taiwan n other nations are doing thier coal and imbibe. They want to change to other sources but are still enjoying the power from the coal. Because they know that unstable power is a far more harzardous to economy n life.

stop showing how dumb u are to d world......those countries u mentioned are even thinking of scrapping coal for power generation.
We need to harness all available energy sources both renewable and non renewable sources to solve our energy/power problems. don't let the west continue to brainwash u that coal is a not clean energy source while America still powers 35% of it energy through coal. why didn't they close down all their coal plant at once and let us grow clean energy together. They are stopping u from powering ur plants with coal but they are still using it. We should also use coal to develop then we can later solve the problem of global warming together.

Don't mind them, they want us to die being subservient to them. We should use every means possible to develop just as they did and we will solve the attendant problems together...

U need to know that dams for electricity is really not so economical but for its other uses like irrigation, water for man & industry etc. Which we know that our nijja bad public culture of waste will not allow us to maximize. Hence y the so much noise for this project. You ar borrowing for this kind of project, that cant possibly pay it back. And u ar busy making so much noise about it

are these countries mentioned building new coal plants in this day and time?

muller101:
to hell with that idea . USA INDIA CHINA TAIWAN are still making use of coal for power generation. Are we better than those countries

We've been banned from using coal by World powers. Unless we develop the technology by ourselves, they won't sell to us.

its bad 4 d environment
A big lie!

Regular tree planting will make up for its adverse effect on the environment.

The South Africa we all celebrate for generating 50000MW plus electricity depends on coal.

Coal is not a clean/green source of energy. The idea of Sustainable development don't permit the use of coal for power generation.
Green energy is not sustainable. It is 10 times more expensive than fossil fuels.

yeah sure, like thats practical, its just like saying no sex to a young university fresher, now everyone knows abstinence is the best policy but will still do it saying they'll use condoms now how many unwanted pregnancies keep popping up every now and then, truth is Coal is just bad to the Earths ozone layer and we should just avoid it, the last thing you'd expect a nigerian to do is to plant a tree, when is he gonna see it mature

Is taiwan feeling the side effects of coal power production or not? If yes, must we thread that road toohuh
You really think darkness and attendant unemployment opportunities is more palatable than pollution?
Can you point to any coal burning country that Nigerians are not queuing for their visa or willing to cross desert on foot to go and live in. They arelleaving pristine pollution free Nigeria to go and live in those dirty countries.

Conversely how many citizens from those countries want to take permanent residence in Nigeria to escape the pollution you so much detest and take menial jobs like sweeping and taxi driving?

Therein lies the answer you need to ponder before you join the main users to condemn coal.

Since we cannot guarantee gas supply even to our few power plants, it still remains a very foolish idea to abandon coal

Wehdone sire, the man who thinks brightly. Are these nations not now looking 4 alternatives as a result of global warming? Aren't u aware that some nations are trying really hard 2 cut carbon emissions? So we should thread that same path abi? Abeg joor

It remains our choice to keep our poverty together with pollution free environment (yet some point our cities are world champion in pollution without burning coal).

While we import containers of cheap products made from coal power. We should actually make ourselves these things, but we import unemployment, encourage coal burning China and India with our meagre resources and continue shouting no to coal, we deceive no other but ourselves

bros coal is not just another source of power generation, it's the most effective all round.
America, North Korea, India, China, SA, Britain, etc generate from 40% - 95% of their electricity through coal. it's just so dependable.
