What Should I Know About Boerboel Breed Of Dogs? by OrdercityWeb: 2:35pm On Sep 08, 2017
Hi guys,
First time on the pets section. grin
Okay, i just got a 4-months old, female Boerboel.
I did some research online, got to know its SouthAfrican breed, aggressive, territorial, family-oriented and all. Anyway i should also let you know i already have an hybrid of GSD and local breed of 6 months and the both of them seem to be getting along well.
The Boerboel stays in the cage and the GSD hybrid stays in the entrance porch and it barks at unknown faces. They are both let loose at night.
...
Okay, now to the Boerboel. I'll like to learn from experienced breeders here or those who own or have owned this breed.
Is there anything i should know, particularly in training, food, and health? It's not been barking much yet, i guess it's still getting used to the environment as it's just came in only lastweek saturday.
I stay on a 18×36m plot residential plot, private residence. So there's alot of space to play with. I should also let you guys know i once had a Rott at my former residence.
..
So over to you guys. What's up? Well-thought, CREDIBLE comments please. Thanks! ! cheesy

Ps: I'll post pictures later. Thanks!!

greene66 I hail o........... clears throat

firstly the pup will grow to be very large and I would be best to start basic obedience training at this stage since it would be easier to control and dissuade yur dog from doing anything that you would not like it to do when it is older now. personally I made 1 mistake when my dog was young I did not bath it regularly and now to bath am na war. try as much as possible to socialize yur dog, exercise it and introduce it to various sounds, scenes and settings, never beat yur dog, feed well, vaccinate and deworm. thank yu

You gat a boerboel! That's a nice dog

You need to understand your dogs temperament well then you can know how to handle them

The truth is that unlike the rottweilers most boerboels esp in 9ja have temperament issues so they may not impress you in times of security/guard. Once you understand the temperament then you can as well train her up.

As for the feeding: boerboels are large dogs and they consume a lot so you need to do a very proper feeding from tender age in order to get a good result, just buy any good dog feed and use (be it can, tin or dry feeds)

When she reachs at least 7-8months by then she has become very big with nice skin and body then you can switch her feeding to maybe fufu and correct soup or rice and nice stew. Any combination you make just make sure it's a rich composure.

Feel free to ask anything

Why do most people suggest you don't beat your dog? I have a male Rot and i beat him when he misbehaves just like my child?

You are making a mistake. I used to think like you when I started and I've learnt bitter lesson.

Let me tell you the bad side of beating your dog.

1. He wouldn't really love you anymore. People fail to understand that you can only buy the physical body of a dog to be in your house but you can never buy his heart with money. If your dog has made up his mind to hate you, one day you raise up your hand, he will fight back. Apart from fighting back, he may not really care about you. Let someone be beating you he will be watching and smiling.

2. He will grow timid. Did you know that when you beat your dog, he will always fear that particular weapon you use. And anyone who carries that paticular weapon would win the dog over because he will be afraid and bow his head before them because he is afraid and suspects you sent them. Is that what you want?

3. He will no longer be your friend- I remember the testimony a friend gave me about his dog and his son. The son's lesson teacher was beating the son outside and the dog was passing by without leash or chain. The dog attacked the lesson teacher to save the boy. The dog knows the lesson teacher for 2 years and have never attacked so it was not coincidence. The dog loves the owner and his children that's why he went to defend the boy. The dog was a German Shepherd. Now tell me, if my friend beat that dog do you think the love will be there? Do you think the dog will do that for the boy? Think about it.

4. The dog will always want to escape. Forget that barking he is doing in the cage. If I open that cage and gate for him he will run. If he loves you he won't run. I've opened my gate wide.. And my dogs unleashed. They only barked and chased the goats on the street and came back inside. Do you think If I beat them, they won't cease that opportunity to run? When gate was opened? If I am sick my dog will come to me and sit with me. That is love a dog can give without you beating.

There are so many reasons I can't tell all. My friend says "who no go.. No know". Until you experience it, you won't understand. Until you experience a GSD or Rott ripping you apart when you try to beat her you won't know. Until you experience your rott follow a stranger happily you wont know. Until you experience the negligence of your rott toward your family, you won't know. All these I have experienced and more within a short time that made me adjust.

If na my Ginger you get, you think say u go beat am? My female GSD. She go don design your body. Your rott gentle sef. So my friend, stop beating your dog please. Your dog is not a human like your child. I'm sure your rott is not trained. Train your dogs and they won't misbehave.

My dogs live INSIDE my house. Not in a cage. Inside. How do you think its possible? Because they are well trained. You won't know dogs are inside except they bark or start playing. So train your dog sir.

hehehe firstly a dog is not a child so never treat a dog like a child. the thing about beating a dog is that it makes the dog to lose bond with yu another thing is that beating a dog may lead to(dog) abuse and one day I will fight back. 1 important thing about correction is that correct yur dog when it is caught in the act not after the act. dogs live in the moment so beating a dog after it has done something wrong is useless. thanks feel free to ask more ?s

Interesting! Now let me tell you that my dog is highly intelligent and well loved. Infact he's a member of our family. We bought him very young and we bath him every time so he can stay inside the house and outside at night. I don't abuse him but i i only beat him i catch him mischievous like tearing clothes bags. And he knows that he deserves few strokes. Guess what he runs and hide and be watching till he realizes I'm no longer angry then he comes to me. I did a mock test with a neighbor who's always coming to our house to play. I chained him that day to avoid a disaster then i told him let's pretend we are fighting. My brother the response of my dog shocked me. He almost cut his chain to tear this guy to shreds and i was very shocked and told the guy to go. Infact he continued being hostile to this guy for some days. My dog is very trained and socialized. Extremely intelligent. He's a big dog and has an intimidating presence but his loyalty is not in doubt. I don't beat him like a slave only when necessary and yes he is my child and a member of my household.
Thanks
