DIRECTORATE OF PRESS & PUBLIC AFFAIRS
OFFICE OF THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR, PLATEAU STATE

PRESS RELEASE

The Executive Governor of Plateau State has expressed great dismay and shock at the sudden build up of tension in Jos Metropolis on account of the conduct of some disgruntled elements, who have decided to throw the metropolis into confusion on account of their negative reaction to the agitations of Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) in the South East.

Consequently, the Governor has directed an immediate imposition of curfew from dusk to dawn (6pm – 6am) within the Greater Jos – Bukuru Metropolis, until further notice. The deployment of security personnel to all flash points within the metropolis has also been directed to ensure compliance with the curfew order and to avert any further breach of law and order.

The Governor wishes to assure all citizens that the security and welfare as the primary concern of Government is assured by the Rescue Administration. He is therefore enjoining all citizens to go about their business with the assurance that their safety is guaranteed. He further appealed to all religious and community leaders, neighbourhood vigilantes as well as all law abiding citizens to ensure nobody is allowed to take advantage of this unfortunate situation to engage in criminality.

The Governor wishes to restate that Plateau State remains home to all citizens of Nigeria irrespective of religion, ethnic extraction or political persuasion. He therefore enjoins all peace loving citizens to ensure that nothing is allowed to upset the hard earned peace in the State.

This is a welcome development...

All these crises are caused by the misbehavior of one man and his IPOB group....

They preached hate, not knowing that they are endangering the lives and properties of Igbo and Southerners (like myself) that are resident in the North and NC.

They attacked Hausa's not knowing that they are setting up innocent Igbos and Southerners down north for victims of reprisals.

Nigeria Army must decisively deal with IPOB and their fellow troublemakers across the country.

What can i say,the aftermath of an ill-conceived,visionless,tactless and useless Python dance in the Eastern states of Nigeria. I hope the Nigerian Army has the capacity to contain the conflagration they ignited. May God watch over us all.
The South East now is under an occupation force in there own country.
The barbaric, crude and unrefined way Nigeria army is going about there operation in the East is truly unacceptable, where lies the internationally accepted military rules of engagement.
First it was the Muslim sect Shia and now the madness has shifted to the East.

If their is violence every kafir is in danger. moreover how do an hausaman distinguish between rivers bayelsa akwa ibom and Igbo. U probably think Igbos would only bear the brunt.

In as much as I don't support kanus ideology as it's not objective, constructive and timely enough. I totally condemned soldier's invasion of his home but who can blame the soldiers when his so called biafra secret service were throwing stones at the soldiers. I expected the youths in that region to display their intelligence and tell kanu that he is wrong with those speeches but they keep behaving like him.

The soldiers can now take the streets over to douse the tension without biased.

ONE NIGERIA SHALL WE PREACH AND SHALL REMAIN.

Truly disappointed in you,the massacre going on in the middle belt and some part of the south by the rampaging Fulani herdsmen and yet,the unusual silent from the governing authorities. Just a week ago,the people of Myango in Bassa LGA of Plateau state, woke up to an attack by the marauding fulani herdsmen and 19 people were killed, according to official reports, yet Nigeria and Nigerians did not see such attack on innocent people as a threat to national unity.
Rather it is the harmless protesters in the East that are regarded as a threat to national unity.
A novelist once said,'when they came for civil rights activists ,I didn't talk because I wasn't one, when the came for the Jews, I didn't say anything because I wasn't one, when they came for blacks yet I said nothing, because am not one but when they came for me,there was nobody left to speak on my behalf'.
We must speak up for justice,or forever stay silent.
There are more civil ways of arresting civil up rises all over the world,we all wish and pray for a peaceful Nigeria, where equity and justice is the order of the day.

A few Igbos have always denounced the tactics of Nnamdi Kanu and his IPOB supporters. But a large majority were conspicuously silent even when Kanu incited IPOB to kill securitymen in search of his illegal radio station. Ohanaeze Ndigbo said nothing. SE politicians and traditional rulers said nothing, save for a handful. And Igbos living abroad hail Kanu as a freedom-fighter.

When Kanu was arrested, they condemned the government and fought for his release, only to keep silent again when he threatened war on Nigeria, threatened to kill her president and threatened to scuttle an election. But they now find their voices to condemn the army crackdown on IPOB. To them, killing a policeman and burning vehicles and police stations are democratic freedoms, but the army using corporal punishment on anarchists is injustice.

Well, the world does not work that way. In the US and UK where Kanu's admirers live, dare threaten to kill Donald Trump or Theressa May and you will be jailed for terrorism. The world also sees through Kanu's cry of marginalization in a country where Igbos have been senate presidents, petroleum ministers, finance ministers, CBN governors, and SGFs. Igbos have not been presidents or VPs of late, but those are elective offices which they deprived themselves willingly.

Twice, Buhari's running mates were Igbos who as VPs could have succeeded his presidency. But the entire Southeast was a hotbed for PDP fanaticsm - which backfired in 2015. So, political miscalculation deprived the SE of the presidency and vice presidency, not marginalization by non-Igbos. In this internet age, the world is well aware of that. In short, Kanu and supporters are on a fool's errand to the laughter of the world.

In today's world, you attain power through political sagacity, not by blackmailing a president you love to hate. And you don't threaten a war and expect the army to turn the other cheek. All the world's newest countries - South Sudan, Bosnia, Croatia, etc - have emerged from war. So, for Kanu to have Biafra, he must defeat the Nigerian Army. Will Biafra survive as a country? It won't, but I don't care. Let Kanu and his supporters worry about that.

Read very well!!!

I'm aware that there is no facial distinction between an Ijaw man and an Igbo man in the eyes of the north. Hence, I'm against anything that will lead to clash...

If e set I go take d next flight/bus to Okrika

I am disappointed in you big time.

It is on record that Nnamdi Kanu is a rebel.

how on earth, did he form the BSS in a sovereign state?

how on earth, did he declare that elections will not hold in some states?

who is Nnamdi Kanu?

There are more diplomatic ways he would fought his cause but he prefers to be a rebel.

now see how innocent persons are suffering for Nnamdi Kanu 's insensitive actions.

and where is his wife and kids?

they are all residing in London, faraway from these crisis single-handedly caused by their father (Nnamdi Kanu) who is a rebel.

his stupid old father also had the guts to dare the FG against arresting his son who has floated his bail conditions on several occasions.

Nnamdi Kanu and his father reported that Nigeria will burn if the FG attempts to re-arrest him.
