I have read so many articles about the importance of having a professional linkedin page as a job seeker, also some testimonies too. This might be helping people in developed countries but I am sceptical about this in Nigeria.

Do employers scout for employees on linkedin when they already have thousands of resumes flooding their mail boxes and offices.

Dear nairalanders have u gotten a job via linkedin before or you know someone?

My sister got her current job via the platform about four years ago. Don't know about now with so many scam job vacancies littered there.

I was contacted by a company to recommend a cost controller. Been a cost controller I recommended my self.

I went for the test and interview, met with the MD. He wouldn't take me because I work for a brother company. My company happens to be one of there client. That was the only hiccup. This happened just few weeks ago.

I would have been a direct testimony. Another company contacted me, asking me to submit my application for the same post. Set up your profile. Make it professional.

I am hardly call upon for test or interviews, through submitting CVS, But through linkedIn I have had a few.

I think it's easier to get a job or be offered a business opportunity via Nairaland than via LinkedIn.

Update:
Today is 18th April 2023 and a lot has changed since I made this comment in 2017. LinkedIn has become more popular than it used to be. I've also become active there www.linkedin.com/in/johncngene

Is just where people show off. Where working class people show off to intimidate job seekers. Nobody cares about you there. If you are there please deactivate your profile and hit the street. Get a good shoe and walk around. God shall bless you with a good job. When God picks your call, sign up again and show off. Remember to upload office selfie on daily bases, every board meeting u must snap and upload, if you get close to any offshore facilities whether for excursion just snap, I mean snap and snap and upload.
Watch how ur connection will grow and ur inMail will increase geometrically.
People come there to talk about their 'whocaresabout' achievements and wouldn't care to help an applicant looking for job.
I've used that platform for long, I even activated linkedIn job alert notification and applied for almost all the jobs yet no success. The last one I applied for made me buy e-book for the exam and was also successful in the exam yet nothing happened.
I don't go there again, still hustling despite my 2.1 one day I will go back to upload my own work selfie. They are intimidating me joor!
