For once, the NASS has been forced to really go to public enlightenment about a Bill they are deliberating on, as against the past when they just they make laws and move without thinking of the consequences. All thanks to Prof. Odinkalu of the civil societies organisations who raised the dust on them with viral video.

Well I don't think this is good, why are churches mentioned and not Mosques?

I don't think religious bodies should come under the same heading, this is a bad bill and should be rejected, the HOA member that initiated it should be recalled.

This is the most disastrous bill if it should come into law
Everything is going to be monitored including the church and the mosque
Everything you want to do including funds and rest has to be gotten from Abuja
Worst of it all, civil servants are going to be happy in Abuja. Money is going to be squandered.

A wasteful adventure at trying to shut the mouth of the only sector that calls govt to order........

If WORLDLY pastors are buying empires from church money, punish them.

If an NGOs misused funds for projects, prosecute the executive. Don't give yam to goat to keep and tell the yam that it is SAFE. For where?

We know what they are trying to do. CIVIL SOCIETIES have been the once loud enough against successive govts incompetence, negligence and looting so they want to keep them quiet through STATE CONTROL.

Look here! Ko le werk.

its okay. Most of these NGOs needs serious monitoring as large percentage of generated funds are expended on personal interest.
If you really read that, and understand it's implication on the NGO's that are really serving the less privilege in Nigeria communities, you won't sat it okay.
This is a sentimental and colonial ideology postulated by policy makers who really don't know what the good NGO's are doing.

Most of these NGOs are only serving personal interests. They have ways of getting data & useful information to justify funding. At times in Nigeria, most of the promoters of these NGOs are friends to some project managers of international donor organizations with offices in Nigeria.

Sahara Reporters finally made me to support the NGO bill. Sahara reporters also operate an NGO & collecting funds. NGO is just an idea to make money for most people.

Hmmm. Why Do we need NGO since Nigeria isnt having War and what's the use of those government agencies established for welfare of citizens?

What's the use of the Nigerian senate self

Do we need NGO's? I fear for people like you. If not for public health NGO's, do you know what HIV and others would have caused to the Nigerian states?
If not for NGO's, most of the awareness we have today, will the government be able to facilititate that alone?
So you think it is only during war that we need NGO's? Smh

That is what the mischievous antagonists want you to see. I am against the bill but I'm not happy with the manipulative manner that some folks are going about their campaign against the bill.

Let them differentiate their opinion, assumptions and fears from facts. Give us the facts and let us know your fears and we can make a decision. But no. They want to use scare tactics to push us to follow them it's not their fault. Sebi we Africans kuku no dey read.

If you read well, e.t.c is not the same spelling as mosque and does not mean the same thing. You're not the writer and doesn't know what e.t c in his lang means. I believe you went to school.

Is this bill, necessary in such a time, when most governmental structures are epileptic, is this the only way to stifle the sources of funds 'non-governmentally' sourced for terrorism. I see this, has using a tsar bomba to settle a civil unrest.
Does the content of the NGO bill shows control or regulation?
Digest these documents and see reasons to contend or concur with the bill.

why?

This bill is clearly unnecessary. You probably may enact it for other NGOs and excluding Churches, as Mosques and Traditional Institutes.
This is because once you start scrutiny of my accounts and my project financing are subject to your approval before implementation, it then implies, I can't develop at my own pace, and I and if members of the governing council are opposed to my programmes that are harmless to the society, I still won't be able to do anything. The letters of the bill may look good but the spirit behind it is POISONOUS!

So whatever the NGO does that doesn't suit the government such as SERAP, Amnesty International, BBOG, Ourmumudondo etc that pits the government on edge, their license will be withdrawn and they will be prosecuted.... What makes the bill good for the common man, knowing how wicked and heartless our political leaders are?

The Steps To Tyranny.

.... quench freedom of speech

... Scuttle freedom of expression

... Muzzle up the voice of public opinion

That's the point exactly. Empowering the so called elite more
