So in essence you can give your children; Abubakr, Muhammad, Hassan Umar?

Yes. If I can name them English names why not Arabic names?

The contribution to modern civilisation by Arabs cannot be quantified especially in the field of mathematics. It's Islam that came and diminished that glory.

If not for Islam, Arabic would have been the central language of science and business just as English is today. I still stand by my words that Arabic is older and greater than Islam!

That's nice of you!

The Arabs were nothing before Islam, it was Islam that uplifted them. It was because of Islam they discovered a lot in mathematics, science, economics.

I thought you were intelligent, Islam came and uplifted the Arabs not the other way round. It might interest you to know that not only Arabs excelled in science and other fields but Persians, Turks, Kurds, Berbers and even blacks who were Muslims.

Do some research before you term me unintelligent. I don't expect you to admit you are wrong but for your own good. Islam was what decimated science in the Arab world. Don't worry, I'll send you some links.

What has Biafra got to do with this?
Demmzy15:
I've met some Igbo Muslims from Imo, Ebonyi and Enugu. Those from Ebonyi and Enugu came to pray at our secondary school mosque and distributed some pamphlets. The one from Imo became a Muslim at a young age when his father reverted, most of his family are Muslims now. He complained about how most of his uncles have cutoff from their family because of Islam.

A colleague of mine in university was lamenting about how Rochas is "islamizing" Imo state by building mosques everywhere, he claimed some Igbos are becoming Muslims due to this policy!

The sad reality is, minorities would suffer a lot in Biafra. That's the plain truth!
Re: About 'Ebonyi /Igbo Muslims ' by shallysgirl: 7:42pm On Sep 25, 2017
Rubbish! I have never heard or seen Igbos discriminate against anyone even based on religion.
Practice your religion but don't use is to disturb anyone. Don't bring religion into public and social life, that's my own. Eg sending people on pilgrimage, for what.
Christians generally don't bother anyone that is why people think they are docile.
ElsonMorali:

We are saying the same thing. Their number is small, so they won't be reckoned with, right?
We are beginning to see How minorities will be treated when Biafra is actualized.

Niger deltans, take note.

Have you ever seen an igbo muslim? At least I am sure you have seen muslims from Ekiti,Ondo,Taraba,Benue and Plateau.these are predominantly Christian states.
Now,back to the question, have you seen or met an igbo muslim physically?

If I have to go to the commission or a mosque before I see an igbo muslim, it means their number is very slight.

Yes, maybe 1% or less as you pointed out.
The reason I created this thread is because of some comments like 'go and meet/talk to your ebonyi/igbo muslim brethren' in some other thread.i began to wonder cause I virtually have never met or seen an igbo muslim before so I began to wonder where those who made such comments got them from. That's how propaganda starts.
I even went as far as asking Igbos around me if they had ever seen or met an igbo muslim before and none has ever encountered an igbo muslim before.
EazyMoh:
Funny enough I just saw a Muslim Igbo Hajiya right now after seeing this thread.
Personally I have met a few.
What the OP doesn't seem to understand is that unless it's absolutely necessary, no Igbo Muslim would want his/her Igbo brethren to know he was one. It's easier for other Muslims to meet and Know Igbo Muslims than other Igbos living at different parts of Igboland. I'd you want to disprove as someone suggested the best way to go about it is to carry out an investigative journalism. Visit the so called town in Ebonyi that many people are claiming has a sizable number of Muslims. Ask the people living in the same neighborhood with them and then try to get their numerical strength. That's the way to go instead of sitting in your living room and issuing blanket verdict.
And also your point that they are very few nobody is disputing that fact, may be something around 1%.
As a Hausa man I can say I only met one pure Hausa Christian ones in my life. But I know they exist, and I know areas were they live.

Please, this thread has nothing to do with Biafra.
It is just a thread to counter the propaganda of Igbo/ebonyi muslims being spread about by some persons.
Igbos are liberal. Everyman is permitted to serve what ever God they believe in. Igbos don't discriminate based on religion or other grounds.
As far as you worship your God in your space, nobody would bother you. Igbos are are lovers of mankind, no matter the race, tribe or religion, that's why you see them every where and they usually have no issues settling down anywhere. Wherever they find themselves is home to them.
Please leave Biafra out of your comments. Thanks.

I have seen an Igbo Muslim before, though he's not even from the Afikpo that everybody is saying. But he's from Ebonyi state. I won't really say that the man is a Muslim per se, because, today he is a Muslim, and the next day he claims Jehovah's witness. He even once gave his uncompleted building to members of Jehovah's witness to use as a temporary meeting point when the latter haven't completed their meeting hall.
This man has completed that his village house now and there is a mini mosque in front, meaning that he has returned to Islam. Did I mention that he gave all his children Islamic names? Plus, people only see him as an opportunistic Muslim and nothing more.
Not to forget that when we were growing up, we found it weird to see an Igbo being Muslim even as children that we were. We made fun with his children's name
in primary school then.
You can easily trace the man if I drop his name here. He's Prof. Obini Ekpe. A professor of physics in Ebonyi state university.

I think it's angreed fact that there are probably more Igbo muslims in Ebonyi than anywhere else in the south east. However, nobody seems to be paying attention to the fact that there's also a sizeable Igbo muslim population in the Igbo speaking part of Delta state particularly around Ibuzor.

Lol No you are just irked by the prospects of having Muslims among your tribe. I understand a brainwashed and narrow minded ethnocentric person finds it heart to believe such. If not why would it bother you this much? The fact that you agreed there even if they are only one person makes the joke "..go tell your Ebonyi Muslim brethren.." valid.
I know you wish there is no single Igbo Muslim, fortunately there is and I don't see anything wrong with it. Actually it will do good for your civilization, the diversity will give your region the appeal it lacks to attract outsiders.
Finally you shall grow thick-skin towards these online insults and propaganda they mean nothing.

This thread is for every Nigerian.
We keep reading people write things like Ebonyi Muslim this, Ebonyi muslim that, igbo muslim bla blah blah.
We need to clarify this Igbo and Ebonyi muslim story once and for all.
I am Igbo, I finished school more than 15years ago, so you can guess my age.
In my whole life, I have only met one igbo muslim and that was when I served in the north. Before then I didn't even know there were Igbos that were muslims so i found it difficult to believe at first but I was later convinced by his colleagues. The guy was the president of his faculty's muslim students association.
I read about them though, but I never see or meet them, even on TV.
I have also heard one or two Igbos who also have Islamic name, like Mustapha Chike-Obi who isn't even a muslim, I saw one on TV last week Dumebi Abubakar who was on the cast of a movie, and during my national service there was also this Igbo lady married to northern muslim, but she wasn't a muslim.
After I met the igbo muslim during service, I made enquiries and found out there is a large family in Enugu Abdullahaziz Udeh family who are predominantly muslims. Coincidentally, the Igbo muslim guy I met is also from Enugu state too.
This past week, I have been asking Igbos around me(some of them older than I am) if they have ever physically met an igbo muslim, and none has ever met or seen one physically. They have also heard about them but never met them physically.
I am not saying there are no igbo muslims but I think they are just a small number of them.
This is not a hate thread or a bigotry thread, but a thread to clarify.

that you haven't met a true Hausa Muslim doesn't mean there ain't. I know an Ibo guy who was born and brought up in the east, he's Abdulsamad by name. A staunch Muslim. The chairman hajji commission in umuahia , he's ibo and Muslim. Go to akpanaya, eteh, nsukka, afikpo, there are Muslim ibo

You sure want me to drop the name of my village here. I'm friends with him on Facebook, and yes, his profile reads that he's from Afikpo. Same way my own profile reads that I'm from Abakaliki, which is not true. For some reasons, Facebook identifies my community as some community in Rivers state. So, what most people do is to choose the nearest community when filling their Facebook profile. The same thing that the man did.

I have met 2 ibo muslims in kogi. Now lets use this logic, if there are ibo muslims in the north there must be in the south. I don't know why ibos are afraid of islam, Yorubas were originally muslims/traditionalist and yet we did not kill the christians. This is what we call love. NB: i am neither a christian or muslim.
