I'm super excited to see a good review on Egypt air ooo gosh i felt very bad when hubby booked it. Glad to hear they aint that bad. This is similar to my flight itinerary in 2weeks except that my final destination is Edmonton. I intend using up all our baggage allowance oo 7 check in bags and 4hand luggages grin hmmm i pray the 3hrs will be sufficient so we dont miss the next flight. angry undecided
Cheers to a flourishing new start in Canada.

Good day all, I have been a silent follower of this thread. I'm here to share my arrival journey in Canada on 23rd September 2017.
Journey started Friday 22nd, used Egypt air was very skeptical about them but they surprised me with their service and flight to Cairo and Toronto was very smooth (I was given express check in at both airport cos I'm pregnant and had an active 3yrs old also). The flight to Toronto was extremely long and tiring but Egypt air hostesses made sure I was comfy, assisted me with extra pillows, blanket, hot tea, snacks and even told me to relax on 2seats that were vacant.
Immediately we got to Toronto, hubby and I started running towards immigration cos we had a connecting flight to Calgary in 3hrs. Immigration process was smooth and fast cos we were one of the ist to reach there, proceeded to customs, experienced thrashing of goods, some even searched documents. I started praying seriously our bags shouldn't be searched (3check in bags and 3hand luggage) cos it will waste time. the custom's guy noticed I was pregnant cos my hubby told him so I can have a seat and my son was over the place. We listed all the goods and value that we are importing before we got to the airport so he just stamped and gave us clearance form. None of our bags were opened, it can only be God
We basically ran from terminal 1 to 3 for the next flight which was long journey, got there just about check in was closing ( missing flight would have cost us extra 300CAD, Choi). Arrived safely at Calgary and a friend came to pick us. Starting search for a house today and other plenty stuffs.
Thank God for a smooth arrival and wish those yet to come a safe and smooth arrival also

I noticed same... It's not cool to just try run down someone's business idea.

There is really nothing wrong with tryna offer services to people that could need them.

I can understand insisting for paid Ads on here, but otherwise... That's just someone tryna earn a living by offering tailored services.

When you say you intend using up all baggage allowance of 7 check in bags... is this for a family of 4(2 adults, 1 child, 1 infant)?

Hello Nairaland family.I am a silent reader even though i have asked few questions here and got awesome responses. God bless you all for all the wonderful contributions here.
To the seniors in the house and anyone who can help respond. we were told by a family friend that if the primary applicant eventually revoke his PR (my hubby) while we remain in Canada, we will eventually loose out from applying for citizenship in the future or even have issues because we are his dependent and he was the one that signed all there is to sign on our behalf . The plan was for us to all go and hubby returns back to Naija as he is not ready to move now. How true is this family friends information?. Also i know there are couple of families that go that route of hubby not staying but visiting , how does this work for them? what procedure did they follow. I will appreciate all your opinion please.

Thank you.
Please members in the house i also look forward to someones response with regards to the question asked above. I also need to know. Thank you.

Hello Ballerz,
How is life in Canny, hope you don settle down wella. Please update us on life in Canada just like impish and Salford1.
Please how did FRSC contact you after you sent them an email for verification. Did they email you when the letter was ready?

@ymiton: relaxxxx. Wetin be your own be your own. God has done it so just enjoy this time.

@impish : lovely blog you have. How has home schooling you child been.

@ adeza: congrats on your landing. God will go before you and your family to open great doors for you.

PLS where is 40manlappy. its been a while i heard from him. Bros if you are still here pls reply my PM
Lastly as touching this drivers licence issue, please lets take the advice of Ballerz serious o. Whats the point of going through all the wahala of getting PR then submitting a fake DL. Just make arrangement to get the authentic one and save yourself stress and embarrassment.

Ballerz:
Driving
So I came to the driving centre today.
The queue was s long. But I was determined to get that sorted and out of the way.
Came with my Letter from FRSC, the license itself and Passport.

It got to my turn, did all the documentation, paid the 105 CAD, I proceeded to the screen. My heartbeat started racing faster than Dywane Johnson. This is the fate of the furious. I had seen people who did not pass and had to go queue up again (you pay 15 CAD for retake) but because of the queue and time, I really needed to pass. I had done enough practice test in Nigeria. (Here is the link I used. http://www.g1.ca/g1-practice-test/ Practice till you are clocking 100%. The questions were exact.)

Download the driving instructions manual and read when you are less busy or bored. When you have a good understanding of their rules, the practice test will be quite easy and a breeze. (Just Google it or send me a mail, I will fwd the pdf one I have).

I have also been told, if you are not sure, just skip. The test is divided into two sections. 1. Knowledge and Sign test. You can only fail four per section. So strategy is to ensure you get your 16 straight. So if you don't know/not sure, just skip so that even if na the last four you fail, you are good to go because once you fail more than four, the test stops. e.g. you fail number 1-5, that is game over.

So sha, I continued my test with heart racing, finally finally screen said I passed. I bounced off my seat like a boss awaiting my temporary license / result confirmation.
Cheers folks

Hello @Ehrnie,

I am trying to also upgrade my WES report. So I would like to know how you resolved the issue as per sending transcripts/verification. WES is asking for my Transcripts again as requirement for upgrade of WES report.

Ehrnie:
Hi All - I have an enquiry about APEGA Registration (for engineers) and I believe someone can help.

So I had my credential evaluation completed via WES, which what I used for my EE application. I have received my PR now.

To get myself prepared for Canada, I decided to register with APEGA to get EIT status. So, I applied for an upgrade of my WES report (i.e. I applied for the course-by-course evaluation). My understanding is that my universities do not have to send my transcripts, degree certs or complete any verification again since this was done previously. Strangely, I got an email from WES few days after applying for the upgrade that my application is pending because they are awaiting verification from my universtity. I am wondering why my university will verify what has already been verified.

I have sent two emails to WES via their contact page and yet no reply. I was on the phone this evening to a representative that was insisting my uni has to verify my transcript. I called again 2 hours after and spoke to another person. She also said the same thing (makes me think they have a scripted message they just read out to everyone). When she saw I wasn't having it, she said she will forward my enquiry to the appropriate dept and they will be in contact with me.

Please has anyone experienced this? Also, what medium can I use to call-out WES...as it is now this email and phone calls ain't working.

Sorry for my lengthy post...whew.

Anyone with ideas on how to go about this should please help.

Just some random thoughts occurring to me his evening about managing the move to Canada...How to deal with friends and family back home?
Some people just cut off everyone and disappear into the setting sun till some 10-20 years later and resurface from nowhere. No the best way, i think, but how does one manage informing people of your departure? Some people find it odd to hear you are relocating for good. They suppose you are going to school or holidays and will be back soon. Others also assume that once you are leaving Africa for North America you have hit gold and are already prepping their shopping lists and monetary demands grin grin I hope people don't come borrowing money and promising to repay which most of the time doesn't happen ooh angry I know some people who are gone for a year or two and still maintain their local numbers for Whatsapp etc so they can still be in touch and keep a connection to "home" away from home wink How have the landed seniors managed relocation and keeping links back home?

Greetings fellow Canadians (and wannabes... lol na play I dey ooo)

I finally departed lagos via Ethiopian airways last friday (22 sept). Had 8 bags for a family of 4 and 6 hand luggages. All this stuff after repeatedly warning the packing crew (madam and family) to limit the weight to recommended levels. Well we made it tru without much hassle. All the official's didn't give us any hassle after they saw my little terror squad (kids) already terrorising us. Nobody checked our food stuff. At Toronto customs they just collected the declaration card and asked us to proceed. Got me wishing that I had brought more stuff. The food served on the Ethiopian airline flights was just there. Na only d rice make sense joor. And please try to eat if u have time to before joining a connecting flight in canada. On my connecting flight within Canada they were only accepting credit cards as payment for food (air canada). well I made it to a warm bed by 11pm, Vancouver time on saturday, but it was around 9 am on Sunday in nigeria. We thank God for his grace. On Monday we went out to look at some apartments and get sin numbers. We also registered for medical insurance. We couldn't get service BC Identity cards because we needed our pr cards as part of the two id''s to present. They wanted our passports and our pr cards. So we will need to visit again for that. Have found the town we r in to b nice and quiet. Well that's all for now. Lemme face my daddying duties. Omo na now I appreciate my kids nanny!!!!! I ALSO MISS SPANKING THE KIDSS!!! ARGHHHH! lol. This tough daddy has been humbled by laws. It seem's my kids (4 & 6) were just waiting to come here ooo. They have become "AWARE" like skynet. Thank God the Lil one has a yr to wait before he starts school. God will help us to adjust.

Lovely pictures. The weather in Ottawa has been sooooo amazing! I've been telling people that we brought the good weather with us oh! Lmao! We were told that the weather would drop next week. Just when we were about to start panicking, the guy said, "into the 20s." We looked at ourselves like, "shuo! So 20s is now drop. Please dont use 20s and drop in same sentence." Lmao! After all the gist about -20C, 20C sounds like a cake walk. After all, in Lagos, we put our air conditioners to 16C. grin grin grin

Hi - WES was very adamant about the re-verification process. They kept insisting that's how they work. After so many phone calls and emails to them, I gave up and contacted my Nigerian university to re-verify my transcripts. It was quite disappointing I must admit but thankfully I got it all sorted just before the ASUU / NASU strike and my evaluation is now complete.

I wish you all the very best.

Please clarify if you had to request a separate transcript or your Uni just had to re-validate?

I didn't request a separate transcript. All I did was to chase up my Uni to respond to the email they got from WES.

I actually do not know what the re-verification process entails and I have no clue what was contained in the email to my Uni (perhaps WES asked for another transcript). The WES rep told me an email had been sent to my uni with instructions on what is expected of them. My uni kept it confidential as well, and told me they had responded to WES.

It is my understanding that any correspondence between WES and Universities are highly confidential and should not be shared with the applicant - I guess that's why WES insist transcripts must be in sealed envelops. This is my opinion.

Spot on Ehrnie. I was trying to understand whether or not one has to pay for issuance a new transcript as well as DHL/FEDEX fees et al. Thanks for the clarification.
