I am America lol Themandator: 1. you asked what version of the gospel the Catholic Church promotes, I answer that the Catholic Church promotes THE gospel as given by the apostles as their successors bear witness, as written in scripture and as has been lived and interpreted consistently in the living Church for 2000 years. it is the gospel as given in the first century, lived, expounded and transmitted for 2000 years in the heart of the living church. it isn't a version of the gospel, it is THE gospel in all it vivifying power. 2. you asked about my Sunday note, I actually only begin my reflection with the homily since I tend to add more flesh to my note at home but I'll share a condensed version of my note since it is pretty long. the topic on Sunday was " the generosity of God in mercy and reward". the passage to be discussed were matt 20:1-16, Isaiah 55:6-9, ps 144:2-3. 8-9.17-18. it was glued together with Phil 1:20-24, 27. I encourage you to read those passages before the reflection. God is overwhelming in his love, he shows forth this love most clearly in his mercy and his grace, the former granted to the repentant and the later I.e his grace to those who are ready and disposed for it. we see the later most clearly in Matt 20, the parable of the land owner, God himself is the land owner he make an agreement, a contract or even more exactly a covenant with us who the parable calls his workers, the pay for work done is the covenantal promises ie grace both for physical and spiritual needs, forgiveness, and even more importantly sonship and eternal life. the are the terms of the covenant, live in Christ Jesus through faith and inherit all the promises of the covenant. in this covenant relationship note the following. 1. vs 1 it is the master that "goes out" to look for us, he initiates the relationship in love he goes out Like a lover for a beloved, Jeremiah said in 20:7 you have seduced me oh God, Jesu says in rev, I stand on the door and knock, he is the shepherd who goes out and looks for his sheep. God goes out for he is love, ps 144:8-9 the lover find s the beloved he initiates the relationship.... 2. vs 3,5&6 God goes out not just once but over and over 4 times (3 is used very well in scripture to note expectation and completeness...) God does it 3 times plus 1 ,over exceeding love bringing as much as possible into the covenant... 3. vs 3&6 "standing idle in the market" not at home but in the market, not playing but idle open for work, open for encounter, docile, ready, not in hardness of heart, Jeremiah 20:7 says I have allowed myself to be seduced, the door of the heart must be ready to open, the lover must respond to the call that is what is 55 calls turning to the Lord... lastly the promises are same, there is no Room for envy, it isn't how long it is how well, he who is in Christ inherits the sonship and promises and blessing in Christ whether he began early like the apostle john or late like Paul. God is generous..... his generosity is also seen in his mercy...which he gives to the repentant... he forgives all our sins throws away our transgressions, he blots them out is55:6, ps 102:9,8...... the reflection concludes with and exhortation, first God's overwhelming mercy is not license to sin (romans) instead an means to position us for righteous living, basing it on Phil 1: 20-27 our lives must be transformed into the live of Christ so as to be assured that death is gain, it is those who persevered till the end that are saved.... be holy... live out the Christian calling...be transformed, don't model your life to that of the passing word...,avoid whatever is unworthy of the gospel.... I had to cut it short, I don't know if you read long post. I also cut out some scripture passages. lastly it is possible your priest isn't dull nor lack scripture knowledge... a Catholic priest doesn't just read scripture he instead goes deep into the original Greek and Hebrew... some people find it easy to express what they know and even what they don't know, others aren't so gifted. most times it is a matter of talent not knowledge. I met many fiery priest preachers also teacher, I also know a priest who isn't a good orator, he has the word but not the presentation, he is also the most prayerful and devote open person I know who quietly calls down heaven on earth. he has also impacted my life the most, but his presentation is dull, if your mind can shift away the dullness and see the massage you will be blessed for it. then some preacher adapt themselves to their congregation, if you are in a old people parish you' ll beta bit dull, children have watery homilies, monastry may be all bone no meet because they digest bone there etc. 4 Likes |

Themandator:it has everything to do with the covenants above the mass is repetitive by nature because it is a covenantal sign. actually those sacrifices are repetitious, every time a covenant was made we see them, every time the covenant was renewed we see them, whenever people worshipped God we see them. it gets even more repetitious after Solomon built a temple, there the sacrifices every day morning and evening every week every month, every year all year round for hundreds of years, if that isn't repetition then what is? these were the mean by which the people of God reenacted, renewed and remembered their covenant with God and Jesus himself gave us the ritual by which we remember, reenact and proclaim the new covenant, even Paul simply repeat the ritual in 1 cor 11 and says as often as you do it you proclaim the Lord's death, if that isn't repetition please tell me what is. the early Christian continued in this breaking of bread, it is mentioned there in scripture and early Christian writings the wahala is that you don't even seem to recognise this covenantal sign that is why is seem you are ignorant that it is repetitious. Why would you sit in judgement and conclude that other churches don't complete the Bible in three years when even Christ Embassy runs programs for completing the Bible in a year..... There is no church that doesn't complete the Bible in a yearAre you saying that if an average winner or redeem, or embassy or mfm member attend church on the normal church days he will hear the entire Bible read to him from Genesis to revelation? because I have Protestant friends the devoted one go to church about 4 times a week and more particularly I have a winner friend who is pretty clear that if you attended his church on their church days you wouldn't hear the entire Bible read. instead they have bible guides there is the yearly one by adeboye for redeem, passages are put down and a short reflection and it still doesn't cover the entire Bible. so be clear are you saying your church Bible guides covers the entire Bible or that an average Joe in your Church who goes every church day will hear the entire bible read? no problem, my battery is dying let me address that later start with 1 jn 5:13-17 2 Likes |

Themandator:read James 5:16 and John 20:23.(I can quote it for you here if you want) and yes, Catholics do both. We ask God every day while we pray and even during mass, during confession we ask GOD FOR FORGIVENESS not the priest and according to the doctrine of the church even if you go for confession without leaving the sin your sin will not be forgiven by God. The work of the priest is to advice you and teach you ways to Avoid that sin, pray for you and give you prayers to pray to God to forgive you of your sin in accordance with James 5:16 which was practised by early Christians 1 Like |

Re: When And Why Did You Change The Church You Were Born Into? by Themandator: 4:07pm On Sep 30, 2017 |
nwokoyepraise: I am very clear about what I stated: we are not instructed and there is no scripture where any body heard the confusion of another as you practice it ... The scripture you gave never gave the apostles rights or privilege to hear confessions of sin or power to listen to confession and Everytime time we read about sins being forgiven they had to do with deliverance and healing ..... Here 1. Matt 9:5 2. Luke 5:20 3. Mark 2:5 Luke 7:8 The sins to be forgiven have proof or physical evidence ...Sickness , poverty, mental imbalance. Those are the sins Jesus forgave in the above scriptures Scripture support scripture.... Mark 16:17 says these signs shall follow them that believe, in my name they shall cast out demons Satan acquired the rights to afflicts those people because they had gone against God and was thus outcast ... Jesus forgave them and they got healed .... He never sat to hear any confession of the brand of sin and then gave them penance of ablutions. Again I state: the one I have offended is the one to hear my confession and repentance. If I wronged somebody or stole from him, I should go to him and confess that I have done this please forgive me and then ask God for forgiveness because I have also sinned against him. |
Re: When And Why Did You Change The Church You Were Born Into? by Themandator: 4:22pm On Sep 30, 2017 |
irynterri: James 5:16 says exactly what I have stated: confess your faults to one another and pray for one another ..... If I have offended you I should confess it and not hide it and tell any father anywhere ... It is to you that I have offended and ask for your forgiveness and prayer .... The verse is too clear to be confused or used as supportive evidence what you practice .... Confess to one another and pray for one another ... If I confess to you you confess to me your sins against me A priest giving you prayer ... Sir, only you know the depth of the wrong you have committed against God and man and only you knows how to ask for this forgiveness that will assuage your feeling of guilt. |

Themandator:in our school days, some students take extra lesson classes after school hours and summer coaching to pass well, while others don't and pass well. Does that mean those who do so are dumb?,same way it can be likened to the search of the Gospel and fulfillment in our lives, some only need Sunday mass and personal daily Bible study and they are fine others need extra to achieve spiritual fulfillment, some need other people to aid just like a support group because of spiritual laxity etc.NOTE:there is a difference between reading to understand and reading to argue.Thanks. |
Re: When And Why Did You Change The Church You Were Born Into? by Themandator: 7:01pm On Sep 30, 2017 |
irynterri: Anybody that engages in argument is doing so because he or she believes in his or her Position and understands it and is only trying to make the point. If he goes for charismatic it should be because he wants to add and not because an hunger persist. The person says he is bored and has hunger that has it yet been attended to by the mass |

Ubenedictus: Those churches don't engage in Bible recital. They teach the Bible and by the year end just like you have stated through midweek service , daily devotional that holds in the Church every morning and evening raid that equally holds every day save for Saturday and sunday winners teaches you the scripture. If you go for WOFBI.. BBC, LCC, LDC you will have an uncommon understating of the scripture. Re: When And Why Did You Change The Church You Were Born Into? by Nobody: 7:40pm On Sep 30, 2017 |
Themandator: Let me tell you the truth, when you go to confession, you aren't confessing your sins to the priest, but to Jesus Christ, the priest there just serves as a representative who helps to give you advice, and also pray to God who will forgive you your sins. Even, in special cases, the priest might refer you to visit the person you have wronged which you will do for your sins to be forgiven. In the verse I quoted, you will see clearly that Jesus Christ gave his apostles the right to forgive sins. They are acting as His representatives on earth. I don't know if you are referring to sickness as sin. In what you said above, that only shows that sin can cause illnesses which can be cured when the sins are forgiven. We know that sin is wrong done by man which offends God. |

nwokoyepraise: Sickness is a sin. I am surprised you are not sure of it.... See Deut 28 "But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee: Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field. Cursed shall be thy basket and thy store. Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy land, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. Cursed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursed shalt thou be when thou goest out. The LORD shall send upon thee cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in all that thou settest thine hand unto for to do, until thou be destroyed, and until thou perish quickly; because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken me. The LORD shall make the pestilence cleave unto thee, until he have consumed thee from off the land, whither thou goest to possess it. The LORD shall smite thee with a consumption, and with a fever, and with an inflammation, and with an extreme burning, and with the sword, and with blasting, and with mildew; and they shall pursue thee until thou perish. And thy heaven that is over thy head shall be brass, and the earth that is under thee shall be iron. The LORD shall make the rain of thy land powder and dust: from heaven shall it come down upon thee, until thou be destroyed. The LORD shall cause thee to be smitten before thine enemies: thou shalt go out one way against them, and flee seven ways before them: and shalt be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth. And thy carcass shall be meat unto all fowls of the air, and unto the beasts of the earth, and no man shall frighten them away. The LORD will smite thee with the botch of Egypt, and with the emerods, and with the scab, and with the itch, whereof thou canst not be healed. The LORD shall smite thee with madness, and blindness, and astonishment of heart: And thou shalt grope at noonday, as the blind gropeth in darkness, and thou shalt not prosper in thy ways: and thou shalt be only oppressed and spoiled evermore, and no man shall save thee. Thou shalt betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her: thou shalt build a house, and thou shalt not dwell therein: thou shalt plant a vineyard, and shalt not gather the grapes thereof. Thine ox shall be slain before thine eyes, and thou shalt not eat thereof: thine ass shall be violently taken away from before thy face, and shall not be restored to thee: thy sheep shall be given unto thine enemies, and thou shalt have none to rescue them. Thy sons and thy daughters shall be given unto another people, and thine eyes shall look, and fail with longing for them all the day long: and there shall be no might in thine hand. The fruit of thy land, and all thy labors, shall a nation which thou knowest not eat up; and thou shalt be only oppressed and crushed always: So that thou shalt be mad for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see. The LORD shall smite thee in the knees, and in the legs, with a sore botch that cannot be healed, from the sole of thy foot unto the top of thy head. The LORD shall bring thee, and thy king which thou shalt set over thee, unto a nation which neither thou nor thy fathers have known; and there shalt thou serve other gods, wood and stone. And thou shalt become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword, among all nations whither the LORD shall lead thee. Thou shalt carry much seed out into the field, and shalt gather but little in; for the locust shall consume it. Thou shalt plant vineyards, and dress them, but shalt neither drink of the wine, nor gather the grapes; for the worms shall eat them. Thou shalt have olive trees throughout all thy coasts, but thou shalt not anoint thyself with the oil; for thine olive shall cast his fruit. Thou shalt beget sons and daughters, but thou shalt not enjoy them; for they shall go into captivity. All thy trees and fruit of thy land shall the locust consume. The stranger that is within thee shall get up above thee very high; and thou shalt come down very low. He shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend to him: he shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail. Moreover all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and overtake thee, till thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded thee: And they shall be upon thee for a sign and for a wonder, and upon thy seed forever. Because thou servedst not the LORD thy God with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things; Therefore shalt thou serve thine enemies which the LORD shall send against thee, in hunger, and in thirst, and in unclothedness, and in want of all things: and he shall put a yoke of iron upon thy neck, until he have destroyed thee. The LORD shall bring a nation against thee from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flieth; a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand;" (Deu 28:15-49) Equally, the Bible verses I gave you are all about the manifest presence of a form of sickness which Jesus Christ sent out by forgiving them of their sins ... There are sicknesses that are as a result of our sins ....And there are others that are as a result of our lifestyle |

Themandator: You said it all yourselves. In the emboldened texts in your quote, it said that the sickness shall be a sign as a result of the people not serving the Lord with joyfulness in the heart but for the abundance of things. Sickness is not a sin itself but sometimes a result of sin. Please note sickness is NOT sin itself. |
