SSBN:corruption my brother. That guy saying we don't need air defence asset is as ridiculous as a man saying he does not have to lock his door cus he lives in a peaceful neighborhood. So because we don't have any hostile neighbours we now assume that a world that have been fighting itself since the creation of man would remain peaceful. Dude we are actors in a hostile and unfriendly international system and power and force is the only language that is understood in this system. Power may not be the reality of you wanting to invade and overthrow a government or another state but it is the fact that if you want to, you can do it and do it over and over again without anybody questioning you. Power may not be the fact that you can stand up successfully in a confrontation against the United State but it is the fact that if the United States stands up against your country and its ideal you will create widows and orphans out of some Yankee families and that is enough detterence to the United State to think twice and weigh the consequences. We have since lost our strategic economic power cus of the global oil crisis. Now even if the United States kill or imprison 100 Nigerian Citizens abroad we cannot do anything about it. Infact we will keep begging them to buy our oil. Cuz we do not have any other way to sustain us as a nation. Then were the days when Nigeria could sanction Britain by stopping British oil from producing oil in Nigeria but it can't happen today. People keep echoeing we don't need interceptors and 4th generation fighters and that's a very funny but dangerous assertion because the vast majority of those against the idea of purchasing a capable frontline fighter for the Airforce are those who may in future be in charge of decision making in this areas. Somebody mentioned feel good factor, but I disagree it is not feel good factor sir. It is a thing that brings confidence, prestige, National morale, Negotiating power and detterence. Some nations procure this things not because they would ever need them but because it gives them a ticket to the "table". Imagine that we just acquired Nuclear weapons and that same month the Nigerian Defence Chief paid a visit to Russia and part of his intinery was to visit some of the Russian Nuclear sites where Nuclear grade uraniums are being enriched. Do you think the US president would sleep easy that night? That visit would be closely monitored by US intelligence and if after that visit Nigeria offers to improve military relations with the US, my brother you will see the level of exercise that the US will want to organize with us. If we ask the US for even F18 we will get it. Why because in the international system nobody wants a well armed man to be a friend to his enemy. That is when you will start hearing "Donald Trump to pay courtsey visit to Nigeria" or "US/Nigeria to collaborate in development of a Joint attack plane" Buying this things sometimes is not because of the reality of a threat but it is to ensure that the threat never comes up. Personally I am quite surprised that a great nation like Nigeria have survived for this long without such things, how come? Despite our strong stance in international Organizations? Cameroon would treat Anglophone Cameroonians well if we had certain capabilities, Yahaya wouldn't have waited for us to come and meet him at home if we had some level of capabilities, we would have been running surveillance flight from Maiduguri to as far as Northern Mali or Southern Libya to track Weapon sales and to destroy terrorist supply convoys headed to West Africa if we had certain capabilities. Boko Haram would have remained a rag tag terror groups if we had certain capabilities. So there is no need to defend our corrupt leaders. If they see the need to change their official car every year and the procurement of those cars always go through then there is no need to be telling Nigerians that it is a Turboprop that will guarantee their nations security. As for the JF17 I believe the Pakistanis would be very willing to see a foreign country rondel on the plane as soon as possible so I don't think the delay is from them. I think we all know where it is from or we fear were it may be coming from. |

My moniker is not "that guy" and you won't find anyone one on this forum saying we don't need air defence fighters. What we actually need are multirole fighters and nobody on this forum can categorically say what is on order (apart from jf-17) or what is planned. The super tucano is a more urgent requirement as we stand. I didn't see you guys moaning the last decade when there was a complete failure to invest in the military. No surrounding country can successfully invade this country, period. |

DOCUMENTARY ON CAPACITY BUILDING IN THE NIGERIAN AIR FORCE The first key driver of the vision of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, is ‘Human Capacity Development Through Robust and Result Oriented Training for Enhanced Professional Performance’. This documentary titled ‘Capacity Building in the Nigerian Air Force’ was therefore produced to highlight some of the efforts taken to accomplish this key driver. It is an informative and entertaining documentary. Kindly watch and enjoy. Olatokunbo Adesanya Air Commodore Director of Public Relations and Information |

rka2:CRAP. Who are we fighting? %80 of our Air Force is subsonic already. We don't need smart munitions against a scattered enemy. Helicopter gunships are better suited and better armoured than that Embrae aircarft. Remember 2005, we were gonna aquire SU-27 , we settled for F-7N as a stop gap for a year or so, its been 12 years. If we again fail to modernise, using this "what we need now" mantra as if we are Madagasca, by 2030 we will still be having a hard time deciding if we need modern jets or not. It is an affront to the Intelligence of the Nigerian people. Nigeria has an all volunteer army, not a conscript army like Egypt or Russia. The men who volunteer to risk taking a bullet deserve to have the best offensive and defensive assets money can buy. Yes I said I.. MONEY can buy. We have the money, in excess. Recession or not. Nigeria is not exactly very large country, meduim range SAMS like will do. A Squadron of fast interceptors will not break the bank. We spent near.y a billion dollars sending Nigerian pilgrims to the hadj to stone the devil in Mecca ( apologies to the sensitivity of muslims). We rely on 16 Roland and Shilka guns to protect Nigeria's airspace, ? Give me a break !!! Of the $5 billion how much exactly is allotted to acquisitions? |

I didn't see you guys moaning the last decade when there was a complete failure to invest in the military. No surrounding country can successfully invade this country, period.

December 15, 2015. Cameroonian soldiers kill 70 Nigerians, burn villages in Borno. http://dailypost.ng/2015/12/23/boko-haram-cameroonian-soldiers-kill-70-nigerians-in-borno-village/ January 2016 Cameroonian troops kills more Nigerian civilians. http://thenewsnigeria.com.ng/2016/01/boko-haram-war-cameroonian-troops-kill-6-nigerian-villagers/ Before these events GEJ's requet to chase fleeing Boko Haram fighters in Cameroon was flatly rejected by Biya. First the Chadians cross into Nigerian territory with hundreds of vehicles and unilaterlly carry out air and ground attacks in the very ground they were chased out 33 years ago. Now if this is not madness on a apocalyptic scale then I don't know what is. |

bidexiii:Olga Bidexi, Boko Haram in itself was never a threat. The Nigeria police force was enough to send the fleeing. We've been at war with a proxy alliance of Chad, Cameroon and France. This is no conspiracy theory. Boko Haram menace started with the resurgence of an organised a d fully armed fighting force the size of the Cameroonian army. Where did they get their training, funding and weapons from? Who owns this unmarked helicopters that were seen dropping supplies to the Jihadi group? Can anyone explain how or why two Caucasian looking men emerged from a crashed helicopter and immediately set about burning $1 million in cash. What about the personal aide to Idris Derby who tried to smuggle SA-6 Missiles to Borno waving a Presidential pass from Idris Derby? Since when did Borno became Chadian territory ? |
[/quote Government to Government contracts and negotiations take years (look around the world for major contracts and check time lines from initial negotiations to contract completion). Example - agreement for supply of Typhon jets by Oman back in 2012 are only now being delivered in 2017. No short cut through rogue contractors. Why don't you write to the NAF heirachy to find out more instead of bleating about corruption etc as if you know more about threats we face than DHQ. While you are at it, write to the Senate and ask them about competing demands. Do you think Insurgency is going to end with BH? See what is happening in Mali, Niger, Libya and you are here talking about fancy toys (which will come when the time is right). Should we also throw in Submarines right now because we could be invaded by Cameroon, Angola, South Africa. Abeg, make I hear word. |

Dirt poor and resource hungry Chad cannot hope in a hundred years to match Nigeria's armoured battalions, guess what they did? They stocked up on MILAN and BMG-71 TOW. Have you seen the ranges of these systems? They can destroy Nigerian Tanks from standoff distances. These guys are not very bright, they don't have the educational infrastructure and institutions we have in Nigeria..they don't even have people smart enough to fly planes, they hire Belorissuians and Romanians mercenaries to fly their jets. YET see how well they structure their weapons system to combat present and future threats.
