Why will Church be taxed in Nigeria ? Before members give offering, such funds have been taxed by government so taxing churches will be fraudulent |

Offerings/tithes shouldn't be taxed. But their commercial activities(bakery, pure water, book publishing, audio/video products, hospital, schools) should be taxed. |

Religious places should not pay tax. But the religious leaders should pay personal income tax, if they are receiving any stipend from the offering. #opinion |

While I know that the OP has no intention of actually learning anything but to castigate the church, I will air my opinion. Churches are non-profit organisations as stated by several people and shouldn't be taxed. However, when the church engages in a business venture like owning a school, sell books etc. then they should be taxed. I don't know what obtains now but I believe that the schools are different entities and they pay tax already. Not sure about sales of books though. |

@Abudu2000, Why not mosques and islamic school ? What about secret societies ? You don't tax people cos they are prosperous, tax is for funding civil society so there is no reason to tax the people who pay money into churches at the point of earning and at the point of spending - the church. If the church will be taxed then any form of contribution of money to groups leader should be taxed. Plus not all pastors earn from their church. |

[quote author=hopefulLandlord post=61110075]Religious belief is an invisible security blanket for insecure individuals. Closeted minds will continue to allow brainwashing and indoctrination by religious leaders that there is a 'god', and there was a 'jesus', in order that the people with closed minds allow themselves to be controlled so that the various Corporations (churches) remain profitable as the tax-free money continues to roll in.[/quote...]..brother I don't think you know the full essence of govt...many atyms govt is not all about revenue..that is the reason religious institutions are not being taxed |

i think churches and mosques should pay tax, so as to facilitate development. by d way, how have some churches and mosque impact anything in this country, na to dey collect offering money and keep building other branch church, and na so d cycle continues. Christians should ask themselves this question, does your church try to help their poor members financially, how many times have you gone out for outreach not just to preach the gospel but, to help people? To me there are two things to Christianity; believing and trying to be like Jesus and also Sharing God's Love. Do you know how many poor people you can feed from the money used to buy a private jet? Please they should pay tax, give unto Caesar what belongs to Caesar. |

I am a christian and will only emphasis my comment on churches. In my opinion, I think churches and mosque should be paying taxes because they are more like limited liability entity these days and of course, what we witness and read about Nigerian Pastors everyday in the dailies is nothing to write home about. The salient question is what do churches and mosques do with the money they collect from their members? What we witness and read about daily is for example, buying of cars for girlfriends and hiring dark glasses security agents all over the places. Also, I think cost of governance must be shared by all including churches and mosques. In addition, they should be audited by the relevant government agencies and mandated to pay 60% taxes into escrow account for good cause whenever there is any disaster in Nigeria. |

felixomor:You are so smart, payment for any service = buying. Whether it is salvation, massage or bag of rice. Every money in circulation is already taxed, by your logic nobody deserves to be taxed because someone has already paid the tax. Think! |
