Tammy Abraham recently confirmed he remains committed to England after meeting Amaju Pinnick, the President of the Nigerian Football Federation

England U21 manager Aidy Boothroyd says Nigeria could still be trying to take his top talent.

The Young Lions manager remains on alert after reports Tammy Abraham was considering switching allegiance to the Super Eagles.

Swansea's on-loan Chelsea striker Abraham quickly denied the claims last month and reiterated his commitment to England, while Nigeria also made an approach for Liverpool's Sheyi Ojo last year.

Arsenal's Alex Iwobi elected to commit to Nigeria in March 2016 and - ahead of Friday's Euro 2019 qualifier against Scotland in Middlesbrough - Boothroyd conceded the country may try their luck again.

Abraham could spearhead England against Scotland at the Riverside Stadium as they continue their Euro 2019 qualifying campaign, after drawing in the Netherlands and beating Latvia in their opening two games.

They play in Andorra on Tuesday in Group Four but Boothroyd is wary of Scotland, who are a point and a place behind his second-placed side.

Boothroyd added: "It's not a six-pointer but it's one of those you're desperate to win, and so are they. Yea Michael2 has a lot of reservation on this team and he has been saying it that d team lack cohesiveness,meaning they don't play as a team but always bank on individual brilliance but I believe after qualification,things w take shape.

Truly if u look at it critically our match against South Africa confirmed his opinion,with absence of our key players we lost d match meaning we don't have a strong squad yet.

If i may ask can anybody go to sleep with d absence of Mikel,Moses v,Balogun against Zambia.It was glaring this individuals make d team thick but it should not be obvious.

I try to prove a guy wrong here when he said we did not missed Balogun,Moses V.against Zambia forgetting that Omeruo was able to stand in,though that stupid error ruined his rating,he had a good game even than Ekong.Brown Ideye was able to raise his game and had a good chemistry with Nacho,Mikel, Iwobi.So with their performance we did not feel d absence of Balogun and Moses.

Rohr just need to fix things up before world cup coz we need a good squad in case of anything like injury,right now i don't see any capable replacement for Balogun in d squad

Joel Obi returns from latest muscle injury

Torino midfielder Joel Obi will return from another muscle injury by the weekend, SCORENigeria has been told.

Injury-prone Obi suffered his latest injury in the middle of September and doctors gave him three weeks to return.

“He will return in three days,” a source close to the player simply told SCORENigeria from Italy.

The 26-year-old central midfielder missed four games as a result of this left thigh muscle injury, which he received in a Serie A clash against Benevento.

This was after getting off to a bright start this season.

He had played three games and scored a goal for ‘The Bulls’ before the injury.

Italian champions Juventus are willing to pay far more than the £42,000-a-week Nigeria forward Henry Onyekuru earns at Premier League side Everton, top sources have specially informed SCORENigeria

Struggling Everton, who the player signed a five-year deal with in the summer, now plan to recall him in January, just as Juventus have indicated interest to buy out his contract, according to Tuttosport.

I see light, well MAINLY light but some darkness still and I will explain why.

I have seen some people saying we can sit back if the Zambians sit back forcing them to come out and play, home ground does not support that. If I pay 5k to sit in the VIP corner and you are playing 0-0(plus a boring game) after 60mins, I will join and start chanting 'all we are saying...' and if you have been in that situation before you will run mad, and go all out attack forgetting what the coach said, this is what happens to Madrid, once it's 60mins and they are yet to score, the boos start ringing and the players get disorganised and become easy picking. If Zambia can withstand our attack till the 60th minute mark we are in trouble.


Another point, the coach is going to show them some clips of that first leg. Trust me the Zambians had 3-4 very good chances that should be put away, if they have a proper team psychologist he will point out the fact that they have become more clinical since that match(I think they beat Algeria with only 2 shots on target), that is a nitro-level confidence booster. There mindset will be if we can create just that same number of chances like we did in the first leg, considering the fact that we are more clinical now and their gk is worse than ever, we may be able to put one away and hold out for the remainder of the game. If they score the first goal we have a big problem, I am not sure we have won a game that we conceded first under Rohr, he is not a tactical genius.


Also, they may watch our clips from their first match against us down to our last match and notice one thing, our midfielders(Mikel is included) all take atleast 20mins to settle into any game and that is a bad omen. If they can take advantage of that by attacking through the middle instead of the wings in the first twenty minutes then they are sure of two good chances, that is assuming Onazi remains Onazi and is caught out of position a lot of times in the first half and Ndidi remains Ndidi who would rather concentrate on attack rather than defence.


Finally they will watch that first leg again and discover that their lord and saviour(Echejile) who provided them with 3 good chances in the first leg is still our LB. Now Leon is a good CB, but he is different from Omeruo in the sense that he is always quick to rush out whenever a player beats his LB, now this is not really a bad thing but with proper tactics it becomes a bad thing. Create an overload and Leon is dinner, that is let the RW beat Echejile and while Leon comes out to mark the RB runs past Leon and receives a pass, that means Leon is out of the equation and assuming Onazi isn't back covering they have a safe passage to our 18.

Now they have to pray that all these things go according to plan and they must remain clinical. If after the first twenty minutes they haven't scored then they should pull back and choke every attack and wait patiently for that 60-70th minute mark. All in all this will not be a blowout, quote me anywhere. You do not destroy Zambia, it is impossible, highest two goals, you do not see them at the wrong end of a proper hiding

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will not play same formation and style that helped them pick a win and a draw against Cameroon in their last World Cup 2018 Qualifiers against Zambia, according to coach Gernot Rohr.

Arsene Wenger in recent interviews has stated that Alex needs to be more clinical in the final third in games. Do you agree with this assertion and don’t you think this will come with pressure?

The job of a professional is to be the best you can and the coach has given him a lot of confidence. He said to him, go and play for me. Of course there are always expectations, no matter who you are, be you Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo

Wenger has set a target for Alex and on his own part there is pressure and there is no pressure. He is learning the trade and working hard. He is an offensive player that you expect goals and assists from. There is a target that has been set for him by Wenger and they are achievable goals.

Wenger tells him ‘I think you are good player and you can offer more’.


What are those targets and goals Wenger set for Alex?

To be a better player and score more goals.

Alex scored against Zambia on matchday 1 of the 2018 World Cup qualifier in Ndola. Do you see him adding a second this weekend?

I’m not going to put any pressure on him. The target ultimately is about the team. If we get a goal from the goalkeeper or from any player it’s about winning the game for the team and if Alex scores that will be the icing on the cake for me as a father.


How fulfilled will you be to see Alex represent Nigeria at the World Cup in Russia?

I have been following Alex around playing football since he was four years old and he has achieved a whole lot from playing in England, Arsenal and Nigeria. It’s the dream of every father to see his son play at the World Cup.

I can’t imagine how proud I would be to see him achieve that feat next year for Nigeria. When he made his debut for Nigeria it almost brought tears to my eyes and there’s no truth more than that he loves playing for Nigeria.

He is integrating well into the team. He speaks pidgin English and you can see I’m always with him. I try to give back to the country that has given me so much.

What advice do you have for other players of Nigerian descent who are yet to pledge their allegiance to the Super Eagles?

The simple answer is there is a lot of misconceptions trying to do that. We also saw it when we first switched. For a player who has been in abroad for the better part of his years there are always going to be so many difficulties.

My answer has always been come and see for yourself and don’t make assumptions. We came, we saw and we are here. Obviously there are ways to improve on but it’s not about that and the positives surpass the negatives.

I’m sure every father will be proud to see his son play for his country of birth.

From the way you talk, you don’t seem to harbour any fear for the Super Eagles…
You just called your team Super Eagles. Ordinarily, the name should strike fear on countries in Africa, but we don’t fear any body. We respect the Super Eagles for the big players and what they are, but we don’t fear them. We have players who can match your team head to head and toe to toe. It will be 11 players on either side of the pitch .
What makes you believe that you can beat the Super Eagles side that defeated you on your home ground?
We weren’t expecting a defeat when the Super Eagles beat us in Ndola last year, but my thinking then was that we did enough to get at worst a draw. Again, I was barely 15 days on the job as head coach when we played that match. Since then, we have remained unbeaten and have improved very much. I inherited a team which I have been able to turn around to my taste and delight of Zambians

Nobody gave your team a chance against Algeria, but you beat them home and away. How did you manage to perform such ‘magic’?
It’s no magic, but the determination of the players and hunger to go the World Cup. We are focused and we play our game anywhere. To get a win in Constantine in Algeria was a big achievement for this young team, and this has given us the belief that we can beat any team, not excluding Nigeria. We know you beat Cameroon here, but we also know you lost to South Africa at same venue.
Your final word on the match on Saturday…
It is going to be a tough game, but I can only see us winning. The expectation from Nigerians will be high and that will put pressure on your team, and we will capitalize on that to win.
Do you feel any pressure to win and do you have any injury concern?
Pressure? Not really, but I could be tensed before the game. The pressure is on Nigeria. I have a couple of injury worries which we have taken care of.

With the profusion of very exciting and talented young guns at Germany's disposal this guys Felix and Torunigha should have a rethink oo cos they stand a better chance playing for Nigeria than for Germany especially given the fact that we need them in an area that needs strengthening. Imagine Balogun Ekong, Aina, Shehu, Torunigha Felix, Echiejile, Awaziem Ebuehi slugging it for a place. I feel we will get one of either Felix or Torunigha if we qualify and NFF reaches out to them.
