Washington (CNN) – With the stroke of a pen Thursday, President Barack Obama gave himself and his wife Secret Service protection for the rest of their lives.

The new law, which passed the House and Senate in December, designates that all former U.S. presidents who served after January 1, 1997, along with their spouses, receive protection from the Secret Service for their entire lifetimes – meaning former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura are also covered. The law also stipulates that children of presidents receive protection until the age of 16.

I absolutely think a former president should get security because they are valuable to our own security but not their wives, absolutely not.

Would you also be able to rent your own fire fighters if God forbid your property is on fire?

If the first lady is attending an event where security or crowd control is an issue that is understandable but to followed around for life to protect her is beyond foolish. Her life is not more important than any other woman in Okrika.

I am probably far richer than you are but I think it is wrong to commercialize the police. Police should not be for rent. If there's a need for private security the government should allow for that but the police should never be for rent.
