Work hard, play harder. If you have a family, spend your last penny in getting them to the UK to join you. Tier 2 visa means you are a professional, grab all the overtime you can and make your money bro. You are in the UK to make money and create a better life for yourself and your family, you are not here to observe bridges. Network with people who you can use as a career springboard (regardless of their Nationality), the mistake a lot of Nigerians make is to network with only Nigerians.

The UK tax system is not as bad as you make it look. Someone on £11,500 a year pays less tax than a Nigerian on equivalent pay in Nigeria. It is high for higher earners but some don't mind or simply go contracting where they pay less taxes.

How many people can survive on £11,500 a year in UK, comfortably? That's poverty, I don't think the OP's aim is to be poor. So if he wants to be a middle class earner, he will be taxed 40%

Different people with different reasons for emigrating. Contrary to what you think, not everyone left Nigeria only because of money. Please go through the following links so you understand that UK's tax rate is not the worst in the world.

Middle class earner will typically be taxed at 20%. A single person on £28,000 a year will earn £1860 a month (tax and NI = £473). He/she can comfortably save more than £600 a month. What is the effective tax rate in Nigeria? Please let's not derail this thread.

I’d rather pay 40% tax in the US than zero tax in Nigeria. In over a decade, I have seen power go out twice... once for maintenance and once when we had a bad hurricane. In both cases, I was inundated with warning emails days prior and power was back within 10 hours. Water flows like clockwork, schools are free up to college level, the 911 system works efficiently and we have the best healthcare in the world... even your president comes to the UK or Germany for healthcare. Shame on you.

By the time you calculate how much it costs just to live as middle class in Nigeria, you’re paying far more than a 40% tax on a lower salary.

Told me how I have so much potential to shine here and how promising he thinks I am. This is someone who has never really noticed me or said anything encouraging to me while I was toiling at this job all these years, sweating it out and being pushed beyond my limit.

I told him how appreciative I am of his advice, and explained that my decision to leave was a combination of many factors I have carefully considered and realised that at this point, this is the best thing for me. He asked me to compose the recommendation letter how I want it which I did and gave him to sign, he gladly did and stamped it. He then wished me "the very best" and said I should stay in touch.
