Notmyproblem:

I understand your position but I think you are not looking at it wholly. Let me use Netherlands for instance someone doing a menial job and earning 1800 Euros per month life's value is even better than that of a bank manager in Nigeria. Yes, the residual income of the bank manager is higher likewise is physical assets.

But what the guy in Netherlands takes for granted; security, social welfare, access to affordable and world class health facility, ability to send his children to the best school in the country without sweating about it is a luxury to the bank manager.

Yes, money wise the bank manager has more residual income but the life of the guy in Netherlands has more value than that of the bank manager so the question is how do you measure quality of life based on money in you bank account or free and easy access to the things that makes your life comfortable? The choice is yours and it is different for everyone.

About the health issue , my brother in-law who is a consultant medical doctor said 75% of the deaths that occur in Nigeria would never be fatal in the U.S or Australia , most illnesses , accidents and disorders are preventable in advanced countries , in Nigeria this isn't so. That reason alone gives living in the U.S a huge edge over Naija.

@op it's unfair to compare a hustler with a bank manager, why not compare a hustler in us with a hustler in Nigeria or an investment bank in us with a bank manager in Nigeria. In Nigeria, so many factors are there to bring down your spirits and dreams, it takes the grace of the most high to make it in Nigeria with clean hands. Environment and discipline really matter a lot for a successful life.

Yeah u,re right, its faster for a menial worker in US if they invole in shady deals to build duplex and acquire landed properties but Its better being a well paid bank manager in naija and going for holidays in US to being a menial worker over there.bank mgrs in naija own duplexes and live good life.they have access to loans to do all these things as a bank mgr.

Op stop deceiving yourself ok...yes its true.nigerians who do menial jobs in usa are richer than some bank managers here in Nigeria..I.e The minimum wage of us workers is $10 per hour and lets assume someone works for 8 hours that will amount to $80 per day.Now calculate $80 X 7 days in week that will amout to $560 every week $560 x the four weeks we have in a month is $2240 convert to naira is 813,120 now how many bank managers receive dat amount of money before tax in Nigeria? After tax and oda expenses ur take home salary is 600,000 monthly how many bank maangers receive such in Nigeria and dnt forget I calculated dis based on a minimum wage which is 10$ per hour in some work places they can pay u above the minimum wage cos in usa states have control of minimum wage so depending on d state u are in usa ur take home salary can be up to 1million monthly after tax..some offices pay as high as $ 15 hour...I hv not even mentioned overtime.

This warped analysis is the same thing OP complained about. Why convert the dollars to naira before drawing your warped conclusions?

So if the menial job worker wants to eat, I guess he will place order for N500 amala and ewedu from Nigeria. I guess he will take N100 BRT to work. His rent will also be paid in Naira to a Lagos Landlord.

The way I see it. Nigerians living abroad are trying too hard to protect their ego. They know Nigerians have too much respect for those living abroad and are afraid to lose some should Nigerians find out their lives are not all bliss.

Wetin consign me sha, for a long time the power supply in Nigeria has improved immensely. I'm grateful for this and doing the best I can in my capacity. If everyone stayed in Nigeria, put our brains in good use, things will get better than they are.

America is portrayed as good in the media while Nigeria and other supposed third world countries shitholes. So the person bringing up the argument of people migrating to America should not forget media conditioning.

I hope for the day Nigerians will start thinking positively about Nigeria in spite of our present condition. When we tell ourselves we can do it, we put our brains in a healthy state for creativity.

The funniest and most expensive joke I have heard from Nigerians doing menial jobs in the US. and earning between $1,500- $2,000, is claiming that they are richer than bank managers in Nigeria. I guess they make their money in America while spending it in Nigeria. This stupid joke need to stop. A Nigerian doing menial job in the US. at best can be compare to someone receiving 80,000 Monthly in Nigeria in purchasing power. A Nigerian doing odd jobs for 10 yrs will still be paying rent while a 10 yrs bank manager would have long built two to three houses with a lucrative investment. Nigerians in America need to stop converting currencies because it is clearly stated that if you earn $12,000 annually in America you are living in poverty
I beg, which bank manager are you talking about? Is it Otapete community bank manager or just any bank manager. How many of those bank manager are living within their income, not cut corners and not using their position to embezzle and secure bank loans for their personal use? I bet you NONE. They built those houses and investment using bank loans. No bank manager or top bank staff solely depends on his salary but bank loan.

A friend's take home pay after deduction is 76k, he's with an unemployed wife and new baby, stays in 2 bedroom in ADA George road area, portharcourt. It depends on how u plan ursef.

I know you are trying to make some good points about living in America which I agree but calm down with the exaggeration. It is rare to find an 80k salary earner in Nigeria afford to rent a comfortable two bedroom flat. I am talking of the Nigeria where real major business and social activities take place (in the context you are giving) like Abuja, Lagos, Port-harcourt e.t.c not Osun, Yola, Maiduguri e.t.c

You also sound educated to me but truth is very far from fiction. And the simple truth is that over 40 million Americans are on food stamp and millions don't have health insurance.

it's because they don't want to you think if all Americans want to work you think there will be work for other immigrants wherever you are or we are we have to struggle to survive

Yes of course. All Nigerians cannot move to a particular state at the same time. What am saying is, accommodation is affordable in most Nigerian urban centers.
Re: Lies Of Nigerians Living In America by Nobody: 12:57pm On Oct 29, 2017
people doing menial jobs in America are mostly undocumented immigrant or new immigrant and they get below minimum wage and dont have access to basic facilities.$75,000 in some areas in the us is just nonsense while in some small county, you are the king but it is hard to find that in small county that is why most travel to big cities

life in Nigeria is better if you know your way.few Nigerians are successful in america that is why they run back home after seeing they have no opportunities there, funny enough Nigerians at home do support some family members financially in that same america.

in america it is the same, some bank manager do shady deals and many pay mortgage and student loans

lets not talk about dating in maerica, most women wont marry you,if they feel you do not earn more than them, they think you cant help them in paying off their student loan.

No I see desperate people trying to protect an illusion they have created for others that is far from reality. I don't see any balanced view here, all I hear from Nigerians over there is that Nigeria is bad and America is good because they have stable power and water supply and good roads. This argument is no longer holding water anymore since Nigeria is catching up already.

A menial worker in America is not restricted to his 8 hours schedule. He can work overtime or get a second job. That's what people do abroad until they finish school/get licenses. Those who don't follow the path of school/licenses are mostly hustlers working round the clock. I know some who work 8 hours regular and drive cabs/Uber etc for extra income. I know of others who just sit at home and take customer service/technical support jobs all day long. Some of those opportunities are strictly within the US, no outsourcing. Guys in those categories who are financially disciplined and are lucky to find good Nigerians to manage their investments are able to do big things in Nigeria within a very short time.
Nobody is saying that you cannot make it big in Nigeria but the opportunities in the US are no lies!!! Ask Western Union or Nigerian banks about the volume of transactions from abroad every day! Take it or leave it.

... true but you are given the opportunity to pay for it. That's why there is no dobale in America when bills are due and you don't need appeal fund to pay health bills, you can owe but you will get the treatment. 24 out of every 25 employable people in America are employed!

people can be funny o. if america was so unprofitable as portrayed by members of this forum. then why are people still tracking to the America, going there at all cost and by all means. Every Nigerian American "illegal" immigrant can't be stupid at the same time.
irony is that we in Nigeria see and feel the impact of their "menial" jobs almost immediately or within a reasonable time.
Conclusion: naija is bliss when you are a bank manager not necessarily because of the take home pay but because of the illegal deals you are expose to. however, an average Nigerian is on a cycle of suffering. they will rather "suffer" a similar cycle in america where every thing works and if you are prudent in spending, may still better the lives of your family down here.

The comparison is so dumb. The fact that you are comparing an undocumented illegal immigrant doing a menial job in US to a Bank Manager shows your mentality is so warped.
Why not compare a legit and graduate Bank Manager in US to a Bank Manager in Nigeria? US registered Nurse to a Naija Registered Nurse.
That's how you people go about deceiving people. Do you know what it means to have security, good standard facilities and good standard of living! That after toiling hard, you are happy to see your kids grow up in an ideal system where they can become great and achieve their dreams?
Schools in US are very expensive but when a naija man gets to US, the first thing he thinks of is to get a certificate/diploma and be able to get a good paying job.
I used to have a guy in warri who was just roasting after his OND and couldn't buy a bicycle let alone a car. He went to US in 2015 and within 6 months, he bought a big car,he has registered for a coding program in the university of how many thousand dollars. And we still de here for naija de hustle 70k 80k, 100k, 500k job in naija without access to good facilities.
Common South Korea here, people are changing jobs like water, living a fastlane life.

You have different categories of health service providers. If you don't have money or insurance you should ask where to go but be prepared for a long wait - they are called public health clinics and there are others too.
*Different ball game if you are suffering from something really huge though but in the US you have to research very well and get your information right or you die for nothing.
