Good morning VO,i want to enquire about an issue bothering me,is there a chance that someone not related to you (neither relative nor spouse) in the US to process an immigrant visa for you? More like a foreigner who likes my altitude and the way we interact, and promising to sponsor me to the US when i graduate, and i'm due to graduate by next year. Thanks

Good morning,

Nothing prevents an applicant who has a pending IV petition from applying for a non-immigrant visa. Bear in mind that the consular officers adjudicating non-immigrant visas make their decisions based on the applicant's ability to overcome the presumption of immigrant intent (INA Section 214(b)).

Regards,
VO

Good day VO. Thanks for the effort you putting in to answer questions.

This is my question. I have a friend with a virgin passport. He has business partners in the USA who want to sponsor his trip to the USA but they are sceptical about the US embassy issuing a Visa because he has a virgin passport. Is it possible for him to get his visa granted for a period of 3 months on a business visit sponsored by a citizen of America?

Please a mail has just been sent to us by NVC to proceed with our application(F2A) stating 6 steps, d first step says that we need to choose an agent nd after which we must wait for 3 weeks for this process b4 proceeding to step 2.
My qtn is dat wat if we choose ourselves as agent do we still need to wait for 3weeks and if we need to wait are we gonna get a go ahead mail instructing us to proceed to second step or we just proceed once is 3weeks?

Thanks in advance.

Good afternoon,

Please see this explanation on the Department of State website on choosing an agent: https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/immigrant-process/approved/Step_1_Choose_an_agent.html.

Good day VO.
My dad who is a US citizen filed for F1 Visa category for myself and my siblings. it's been approved since sometimes 2011.
please I have some questions.

1. Myself and my sister are now married with kids. Am not sure my dad changed our status to f3....Do we have to change the status ourselves indicating that we are now married which means we'll be moving to the f3 category which might mean a longer waiting time?

2. I just renewed my passport but I renewed it in my maiden name since the application and approval bears that name even though I have legal change of name documents including newspaper publication. I hope renewing my passport in my maiden name won't cause a problem?
Thank you.

Good afternoon,

1. If you have married since the time that the initial petition was filed, you are correct that your visa class would change to an F3. The petitioner can contact USCIS and inform them of the change.

2. If you have documents indicating that you legally changed your name, you can send them to the National Visa Center to be included in your petition or you may bring them with you at the time of your consular interview to demonstrate that you went through the proper routes to change your name.

I hope this is helpful.

VO

Good morning V.O

Am roland and pls guys i need your urgent help, In front of me i have the FORM G-325A Biographic Information which i have to submit in next 3 days but i am so confuse on the last 5 years address because within the last 1 year i have been going to South Africa & NIGERIA in and out on a VISA and TANZANIA where i and my wife got married but my other addresse from LAGOS, and am currently in South Africa I dont know what to fill in here right now pls i will be so happy if i can get the necessary and urgent help pls.

Good afternoon,

From your question, it sounds like you just visited these countries, although it is unclear. If you actually resided in South Africa or Tanzania, you should include these addresses. If not, you can list these places under "Prior Travel" when you fill out your DS-260.

Good morning VO,
Pls I need you to clarify this for me, do I need to go to Nigeria Us embassy portal to register or fill any application form? Am an intending immigrant that has interview scheduled for the month of November,2017 by NVC.

Thanks

Good afternoon,

You must submit your DS-260 biographical form online prior to the interview. This website (https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/immigrant-process/interview/applicant_interview.html) explains more generally what is required on the day of the interview. I hope this is helpful.

Hello VO, Please how do we confirm if my Mom's SB1 application was approved? They didn't specify if it was approved or not when she went for her interview. The VO only told her she will still need to apply for an immigrant visa and come again for another interview later but didn't specify if it was approved or not...Please help...Thanks

Good afternoon,

You should contact LagosIV@state.gov for inquiries on individual cases. I cannot comment on individual cases in this forum. You should include your mother's case number and her full name in the email.

Dear VO,

My husband and I have been married since 2014, he however didn't update his greencard application in 2016 when he received it, to say that he was now married ( His parents applied for him many years prior to our marriage).

I have a valid visitor's visa (which I would be renewing again early 2018) but we're trying to relocate in 2018. He can stay legally in the US but I can't. I read that his filing for me as spouse of GC would not give me a legal stay in the US and I will have to remain in Nigeria until I get a priority date (which could be 3/4 years from now).
How do we go about it pls?
Thanks

Good afternoon,

Lawful permanent residents may file immigrant visas for their spouses. The first step is for your husband to file an I-130 Petition for Alien Relative. He will need to visit uscis.gov for more information on the filing process.

Good afternoon,

I cannot comment on the outcome of individual cases in this forum. If the consulate has said the case has been closed, bear in mind that it can take some processing time for the physical case file to be returned to USCIS.

Good afternoon,

Whether or not you are married can affect certain visa classes (for instance, a spouse visa is based on the premise that the beneficiary is married to the petitioner). It is up to you whether you want to change the data on your passport. Bear in mind that your marital status and the evidence of it may affect the visa class for which you are eligible.

Good afternoon,

The National Visa Center (NVC) will notify beneficiaries and petitioners following the approval of a petition of what documentation and fees are required. If the interview has already been scheduled, please visit the following website for information on what to expect: https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/immigrant-process/interview/applicant_interview.html

Good afternoon,

While most appointments are set within 60 days of NVC receipt of all requested documentation, we cannot predict when a specific appointment will become available. Please check the following website for more information on how NVC schedules interviews: https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/immigrant-process/interview.html

Good afternoon,

Generally speaking, the vast majority of immigrant visas are family-based, meaning that a spouse or relative must file for you. There are certain employment-based immigrant visa classes as well. Information on family based immigrant visas can be found here: https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/immigrant-process/petition/file.html

Good afternoon all,

In moderating this forum, it seems that many of the questions are related to the filing process through USCIS and the National Visa Center. The Department of State website has a helpful flowchart for navigating the different steps of the process. I have linked to certain sections of it before, but here is the full chart. Please note that you can click on each section for more detailed explanations of each step in the process. I hope this helps answer some remaining questions out there.

Good afternoon VO, it's sure helpful. But I have already just renewed my passport in my maiden name which is the name the application is bearing. So am asking if that will not be a problem?

hello VA
I have a concern, i in the year 2007 tried obtaining student visa and i submitted a false waec certificate. my visa application was rejected. though the visa officer did not reject my application because of the false document. i dont know if she found out or not ( am sorry for doing that . i was a kid then, and didn't fully understand the implications of my action. now my question is, is there a way i can find out if the visa officer detected i submitted a false document and placed me in a permanent ban from entering the United States ?

Myself and 5 of my siblings case is complete. And our interview have been scheduled, NOVEMBER 15,Same time for everyone of us..My question is concerning the interview.. Are we going to be interviewed together?.Will they call us individually?... What to expect....(child of a Us citizen below 21)..The letter says petitioner won't be allowed.. So we will be going ourselves and we really don't know how to prepare and what to expect...

Good morning V.O., really appreciate the good work you are doing here sir. Got my case complete, in September, and we were told to wait 60days. My PD is July 2011 under F1 category. ( Unmarried children of U.S citizens). I have 2 kids and we informed NVC about it, so they were added to my case at the NVC stage, with all fees paid. My boyfriend and I have been living together since I had my first child. Am expecting my 3rd baby, although not planned, but as a Christian I believe every child is a blessing.

My question and concern sir is, when I have my baby who is not due to come until next year, how do I add my baby to my case, since we have already gotten case complete? Will I need to get an international passport for the "new born" what documents will be required? And how will we pay the Visa fee?

Then 2ndly, if I get my interview before giving birth, will I be asked to go give birth before coming for my visa, I asked this becos a lady told my mom that she was asked by the consular officer to go and give birth before coming back for her visa, that I might be told same thing, and my mom said but her category is different from mine and all cases are different as the lady was in the F2A category, and mine is F1. Would really appreciate your response on these. Thank you and have a great day

Hi,
I have a question on how to apply for readmission into the US. I am a grad student at Prairie View A&M university in Houston. I lost my father earlier this year and had to attend his funeral last month. Before leaving the states I checked in with my DSO on what I needed to travel and she assured me that my I-20 will suffice. On my way back to continue my studies in the states I was stopped by the immigration officers. I was told that I did not have a valid visa for reentry but was told I could pay $585 for a visa waiver of which I told them that I could pay the amount if it is required of me but after my interview with one of the officer they decided that I was inadmissible to the US and so I was deported. I have never been convicted of a crime and have maintained my F-1 status during my stay and I’ve been a model citizen ever since I started my educational pursuit in the US. My SEVIS and I-20 are all up to date. Now, I have missed the fall semester after paying a tuition of over $8,000. I still have a few more semesters to go before graduating. I’ve been trying to figure out how to reapply for admission back to continue my studies when I came across the I-212 form. I will like to file this form but I’m not sure where to file it at.

Thanks for your help
