Germany's first self-driving public bus has made its maiden journey on the roads of a rural town in Bavaria, taking locals from the train station to the town centre.

German transport company Deutsche Bahn trialled the self-driving vehicle on Wednesday 25/10/2017 , delivering townspeople on a 700-metre route between the train station, the town centre, and the Birnbacher baths.

Designed by French startup company EasyMile, the electric vehicle, called EasyTen autonomously navigated its way through the municipality of Bad Birnbach by way of sensors, lasers and GPS systems which can detect obstacles and activate brakes.

The vehicle moves along a pre-programmed route with its speed initially limited to 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) per hour on a road with a 30 kph speed limit. Also, the bus is not yet capable of avoiding obstacles on its own. In case of an emergency, such as a car wrongly parked on the route, a human can take control of the bus by using a joystick.

Deutsche Bahn aims to develop the autonomous minibus further in the future, where it will act like a private car service to pick up passengers upon request from their home through an app.  It could also collect other travellers en route who also require the service.

While EasyTen is the first vehicle of its kind to hit the roads in Germany, the rail company plans to release more similar buses from 2018 in several German towns and cities, such as Hamburg.

Autonomy is a fast growing technology, with leading companies like Renault and BMW recently unveiling self-driving and electric concept vehicles.

Imagine this driverless bus moving through the streets of Lagos...

This is not an excuse for development though, but Nigeria is a continent, too much diversity to exist as a unit.
Our socio-ethnic and religious diversity affect our reasoning so much we can't agree on anything.
To compete with the rest of the world, we need to restructure or disintegrate.

Germany has 79% Germans and 21% other ethnic groups.
60% of the people living in Germany (locals and immigrants) are Christians while the remaining 40% are spread over 1000 different religions.

Nigeria has 521 languages, with no single ethnic group over 38%. There's no majority of ANY idea in Nigeria.
Christianity nor Islam do not control above 45% of religious ideas.
There's nothing that brings 51% of Nigerians together, maybe football though.

Meanwhile, here in Nigeria, some people are still trying to invent a potent voodoo that will fly them invisibly to countries like UAE, US, UK, Canada, etc.

The available versions of that voodoo can only fly you into a nearby bush or dunghill and back to your home. So, ideas are welcome for the international version.

It really surprises me when I see another development in another country, and we Nigerians start thinking negatively about Nigeria and calling her names. My Question is "Who are we expecting to start these innovation?" Are we not the one? What have you contribute for Nigeria Development? Or must we wait for government for any development?
