Lol...it's funny how people who know close to nothing about Ilorin history claim to be an authority on Ilorin. Some people, having read some discredited works claim to know Ilorin even much more than the Emir. so funny.

First and foremost, The Sarakis claim to originate from Agbaji Quarters, specifically at "Ile Agoro". Further checks on Agbaji itself and Agoro shows that the progenitor of the Agoro compound is NEITHER Fulani Nor Yoruba. In fact, He's a SHUWA ARAB who migrated from a Sudan via Mali to Ilorin. The name Agbaji is a Yoruba version of the town they come from "Al-barji" in the Sudan.

However, Most people classify SHUWA as FULANI just because of the close similarities between them.

one thing of note is that there's a Fulanization of the shuwa/tuareg in most Emirates. most shuwa, on account of close similarity with the Fulani, would just subsume their identities under that of the Fula identity, and interestingly they're welcome. Also, They're culturally Yoruba because they've assimilated the Yoruba culture, to a great extent.

So it is true, to an extent, that Saraki is a Fulani and a Yoruba man. it is also true that Saraki is not a Fulani nor Yoruba. However, what is true at all time is that Saraki is an Ilorin man!

Thank u
You've started with this tale of yours again?

Now the Saraki are from Agbaji? The same Sarakis whose grandfather claimed to have come from Ogun state? Lol! That was before Olusola Saraki even ventured into politics! In fact, it was stated that Olusola went out of his way to make people see him as an Ilorin man because he was never one and now he's suddenly an Ilorin man?

The question is why do Saraki keeps lying about his root? The only perfect answer is that he was a Hausa slave that ran from Old Oyo empire to seek refuge in Ilorin! Funny enough most of the Hausas in Ilorin today claim to have Fulani ancestry. Lol.

bro...while I completely agree with u that there's a cultural assimilation in Ilorin...I am, however indifferent about whether Saraki is a Yoruba or not. however, u made an error. The Balogun Fulani have paternal Fulani ancestry traceable to a particular quarters in Kebbi. I'm Fulani and I've got relatives married to the olufadi and imam-Fulani clans. However, you're absolutely right if you had said Balogun Gambari. I presume you know they're four Baloguns in Ilorin. Two Yorubas(Ajikobi and Alanamu), One Hausa(Gambari) and one Fulani (Fulani). Some crazy power play happened in Balogun Gambari quarters that eventually led to a Yoruba man (murogo) becoming a Balogun Gambari. But we're all one..a big family bounded by an Islamic identity headed under the leadership of the house of Alimi...
We all have one thing or the other to share so that people get to know the fact as it is. If you are married to this family, then you do have a strong link. However, the famous Alfa Tukur Asunnara and Alfa Erubu were Yoruba.
The Alaya-bi-agba family is Igbomina from Omu-Aran as are Oniyangis who came from Ada-nla near Igbaja; the Edun family, which is Igbomina, too, came from Ila Orangun although Alhaji Buhari Edun had a Nupe mother.
I feel you need do more research on them so as to ascertain these views. The reality on ground is that these people's history is slightly less than 200-250 years. I know in all these quarters, there are different groups that fused together to form this group. Lastly, there are even DNA traces that showed less than 1% of Fulani blood traces with Yoruba, in which Ilorin enclave is included. There have been Islamic researchers who are really trying to contribute to the ancestral home of the Yorubas because they also believed that the people called Yorubas are migrants to their present day location.

All you need to know about Saraki is in this link
Saraki is definitely not an Abeokuta man. Saraki's grandfather probably told the old man that he's from Abeokuta in order to be seen as a Yoruba man, knowing that the Old man knows he's not an Ilorin man. My theory is the Sarakis were formerly Hausa slaves from Old Oyo empire.. Their stories so far look disjointed and doesn't match! They are obviously hiding something.

Pls, are you for real with your 2nd and 3rd paragraph? Fulanization of shuwa Arabs? Where is that happening?
If you had said Kanuri-nization of the shuwa Arabs, it would be more reasonable, b cos all the Shuwa Arabs in Nigeria and to an extent Niger republic are living and settled in the midst of Kanuris in Kanuri homeland as nomads and as such almost all shuwa Arabs speak Kanuri as a 2nd language and heavily intermarry with Kanuris than they do with fulanis.
probably u read about the shuwa Arabs from Wikipedia. while I don't dispute the fact that the bulk of shuwa Arabs, today in Nigeria, live within the territories of Borno ( borno and yobe). And the reason for that was because they were invited by sheik el-Kanem to halt the jihad going on in Borno and to that extent, they were completely successful.

However, prior to the ancestors of the modern shuwa Arabs in borno, some shuwa Arabs had emigrated to nupe and Yoruba territories. if you read the history of bida emirate, there were Shuwa Arabs in the court includingof Etsu Majiya even before the arrival of mallam dendo. in adamawa, they were Shuwa Arabs in Yola. Most of these shuwa, adopted Fula identity. even rumor has it that the Yar'aduas are Tuaregs and not Fula. it's not all Fulani you see that have Fula ancestry right from the go...And you knkw it's easier for a Shuwa/Tuareg to claim a Fulani identity than other Africans. That reminds me, a friend of mine from lafiagi actually descended from the Tuaregs..but today, due to the intermarriage between them and the Fula nobility in that town, they identify as Fulanis.

Lol oyedepo is not from Ilorin, he's from Omu Aran. You people need to understand there is no confusion anywhere in Kwara state regarding identity apart from Ilorin. Ilorin is where confusion is. As for the other parts, they are as Yoruba as Ooni and Alaafin. I don't like to call Ilorin people Yoruba or Fulani. I just call them whatever they individually identify as. Ilorin people don't collectively identify as Yoruba. Some claim to be Fulani, some claim to be Yoruba. Whatever Saraki claims he is, is what we should call him

It will interest you to note that Dr. Olusola
Saraki's father [Alhaji Muttahiru Saraki] in
early 1963 told Alh. AbdulGaniy Folorunso
Abdulrazak an Ilorin indigene, who was the then Nigerian
Ambassador to Côte d' Ivoire that he is
an Egba man from Abeokuta, but went
for Quaranic studies in Agbaji.

I first read this in a copy of The News Magazine
and an online version of that story is on
Sahara Reporters. Ahj. Muttahiru had 3 wives
as of that 1963.

The Sarakis know this history I believe
but for for the purpose of politics, Dr. Olusola
Saraki had to give the mythological story
of being a "Fulani" of Mali ancestry.

It was just subterfuge to be accepted by
the Northern Nigeria power brockers!

Wikipedia is NOT a reputable place to get
accurate information about issues because
it gets edited regularly by propagandists
and that is why schools in the Western world

I remember reading about Alh. DanMusa
who married the owner of Bisket Stores
saying in a magazine interview in the
early 2000s that his father migrated to Ilorin
and that he saw himself as a Kwara person
but now it seems he is using Niger State
now. He being of Fulani stock but married
to a Yoruba woman from Ijebuland[Bisket]
and he grew up speaking Yoruba fleuenly.

What struck me in that interview was how
Fulani of the same stock like the Dan Musas
claimed multiple states in Nigeria, because
the Dan Musas also exist in Katsina as well
which is where they originally are from.

That said, the British Archival materials
such as the History of Nigeria by Sir Allan
Burns who was the Governor General of
Nigeria clearly stated that Ilorin is a Yoruba
town, and that Illorin is one of the Biggest
Yoruba towns in Colonial Nigeria.

Lastly I have stated before that all the
Archival materials should be gathered by
the original Yoruba owners of Ilorin [Ilo Irin],
to the International Courts so they can have
a greater role in their town.

I remember reading archival materials about
Ilorin and it was indicated that Balogun
Alanamu [of Yoruba descent] was the MOST powerful man in Ilorin but the British George
Goldie's schemings led to the elevation
of the emir[of mixed Yoruba and Fulani heritage] who was just an Islamic leader
to play a more dominant role. We know the
British used the Fulani emirs to collect
taxes for them from the conquered territories.

It is also on record that the then British Governor
of the Lagos Colony had indicated that Ilorin
should be merged with the South instead of the
former North, but Sir George Goldie of the
Royal Niger Company rejected it and said that area of Nigeria was within his "sphere of trading influence" so that is how the northernmost part of Yorubaland ended up in the Old Northern
Region [Kwara and Kogi States].

There should just be a referendum and their should be no
fighting or bloodshed over Ilorin. I'm aware that you
have mixed Fulani and Yoruba heritage
as you have already stated in your NL profile
and I don't see anything wrong in that.
Atiku Abubakar is Fulani from Adamawa
and one of his wives, Titi is from Osun
and their mixed heritage children will
always be welcome by their kith-and-kin
or Osun cousins.

All Yorubas who deny their Yorubaness are not Yorubas. We generally do not consider the Sarakis as Yoruba in the SW. They openly deny their own ethnic Heritage.

However, most Yorubas in the North do not identify themselves as northerners.

An uncle of mine is married to a shuwa arab woman. I am from northern Nigeria.. So, don't think everyone you meet here is a yoruba or Igbo person.

Well, i have seen the misunderstanding here. I based my assertion on the modern day shuwa arabs of Borno/Yobe, whereas you on the other hand are coming from a historical perspective.

Present day shuwa arabs of Nigeria are more or less tied/connected to Kanuris than fulanis. so i think you should have specified the fact that you were referring to the older shuwa arabs who settled in elsewhere in geographical Nigeria, in order to avoid misleading others.
