Don't use grubber. Use Princeton, the ETS Guide and Magoosh videos. Learn the Process of Elimination method (POE); i.e writing down alphabets on your answer sheet and striking them one after the other till you arrive at one you are either not sure about, sure or cannot say. If that is the only option left, click it and move on.

Develop reading speed. Read bulky paragraphs slowly but once so you would not need to read them again to get the idea being expressed. If you get the gist of what you are reading POE would be easy for you.

Try to read the ETS guide, practice drill or PowerPrep II before the test day because no other material replicates the GRE quite like the testmakers themselves. If you study Grubber before you get into the hall, you would feel like you had been training to play Everton but got Barcelona instead.

Scholastica16, pls kindly send Princeton resources to my mail @ zoidbitcoin@gmail.com

Thanks!

Sir, as much the question sounds awkward, I want to assure it isn't.

I am presently at a place that deprives me access to power supply so I can't check it on my laptop and my phone can't enable me register on ETS website.

So I asked the question to find out from those that registered recently.

You can check on MAFIT's website. There're still available dates in december.

Hello peeps,

I have been a silent viewer of this thread. The first day I came across this thread around May this year, I knew I had struck gold. I took the time to read from the very first page up to 200 and something page it was on then. May God bless the soul that started this awesome thread. I have in short benefited immensely. I download all the materials I've been prepping with. I simply download from the various Dropbox and google drive link posted by the well meaning brothers we have here. I printed on campus since it often cheaper. Although I spent close to 15k, I must say it's money well spent given the knowledge I've gained reading these materials and when compared to the cost of buying each of the materials from the bookstore.

I sat for TOEFL on Saturday, 28th October 2017 at JKK centre. I registered with MAFIT and while I had less than 2 weeks to prepare, I focused on the speaking and reading. I'm pretty good in Writing but I still had a little practice on both the integrated and individual writing task.

I had written TOEFL in 2014 so I was already familiar with the exam's overall format. I scored 98 at that time. A day before the exam, I practiced with the TOEFL iBT software and reviewed all the questions I missed.

My scores were available on Tuesday, 7th November after just 7 working days. I wasnt able to complete the Listening as there were 2 questions I couldn't answer before the elapsed. I guess that is the price I have to pay for trying to eavsdrop on other test takers who were already on the Speaking task while I was on Listening task. Below is the is the breakdown of my scores:

Reading-->25
Listening-->24
Speaking-->24
Writing-->28

Total--->101

I am happy although I was aiming for 105 upward with at least 26 in Speaking.

I've registered with BRABIT LTD for GRE. My test date is Friday, 24th November. I actually told them I preferred Saturday, 02 Dec so I have less time for preparation. They also offer free Magoosh online access which I'm enjoying already. The reg fee is 45k which is quite cheap when compared with most centres.

Below is my profile
B.Eng Agric & Bioresources Engr (4.06/5/0 CGPA)
M.Sc Environmental Engineering (5.4/7.0 CGPA)

My target schools are:
North Carolina State Uni, Raleigh
University of Massachusetts, Amherst
Temple University
Morgan State University

I'm planning to apply for Ph.D haven contacted POI in some of the school and getting the green light.

Gurus in the house please help me with tips on how to score above 160 in Quant's. Your comments are really appreciated.I have been using the Official GRE guide, Manhattan 8 Series and Manhattan 5lb and now I have access to Magoosh online prep. The problem is that my preparation has been on and off due to work and hustling.I'm a bit jitry. Another challenge is raising my application fees ($285) and transcript evaluation costs ($325).

Can someone help me get in touch with someone outside the shores of Nigeria to help with payment in order to beat the high exchange rate? I really crave your help guys!!!

Congrats on your score. Are the schools asking for transcript evaluation? If I were you and I know my financial status I will avoid schools with transcript evaluation, and schools that require official transcript like plaque. Mind you, if you are planning to apply for fall 2018, you might not meet the deadline. Evaluation takes a minimum of 1 month and depending on your undergraduate/postgraduate school, it might be longer. My advice for you is to look for other good schools that doesn't require evaluation or official transcript and test scores. And if only one of the schools is asking for evaluation, you can weight your options and remove it from the list. Last time I checked, the top 2 schools you listed there don't require any transcript evaluation

Someone else has replied you very well.

Do not use transcript evaluators if you are not constrained by your choices and to me, you are not. Most schools have their own in-house evaluation schemes which they adhere to.

As for your Quants, you can practice the 5lb Manhattan questions, the ETS guide and take as many full-length tests as possible.

Always, review your answers to see what you got wrong and simpler steps to take to get the questions next time.

Good luck.

Thank you so much for your insightful advice and recommendation. Of the 4 schools, Morgan requires transcript evaluation while UM Amherst requires one copy of official transcript; Temple asked for certified copy of transcript.

I actually selected Morgan as a safe school and because I got a favourable response from a Nigerian Prof whose research interest chimes with mine . He also happens to be the coordinator for the research option I'm applying to.Although he told me he won't be taking RA for the coming Fall, he nevertheless advised me to apply directly for doctorate.

NCSU requires no transcript evaluation. I have already done a Skype interview with a POI there. Temple advise applicants to use transcript evaluation for fast processing while UM Amherst grad cord also replied my enquiry mail and told me transcript evaluation could be used in lieu of official transcript.

The dilemma for me now is 2 of the 4 schools indirectly requires transcript evaluation which is cost-effective given the fact that I'll spend more than $325 if I were to apply for official transcript from my Undergraduate and Graduate Schools.

I still have some little time anyway as none of the schools have a deadline early than Jan 1, 2018. The pecuniary constraint is all that stands between me and dream.

I don't know the schools that would require an excess of N119k to send transcripts. You should really check your calculations again to be sure.

From what you have said, NCSU, Amherst and to some degree Temple do not require the evaluated transcript.

The argument that an evaluated copy would fasten the review is neither here nor there; people largely prefer these evaluations when they are trying to augment the GPA, but in your case, you have solid GPAs of which the individual courses that are pertinent to your Doctorate plans will be checked - not necessarily the GPA per se, except you are aiming for the top 15 schools which you are not.

To add to that, you do not yet know if your GRE score will open you to more schools or even cause you to remove some from your list. If the GPA is vital to you to be on the 4.0 scale, why not use the free evaluator and just mention it in your apps as an estimate of what your GPA will be for your M.S and Undergrad.

Shelling out $325 for this evaluation does not appear cost-expedient in the long run but then I understand and support whatever decision you take.

To add to that, you do not yet know if your GRE score will open you to more schools or even cause you to remove some from your list. Thank you Femi and scholastica for the illumination you have shed on this matter. I must confess it is ridiculous if not unconscionable to fork out $325 on transcript evaluation when the money can be better spent on other applications. In fact, I have done the free evaluation with WES free calculator and my GPA on 4 point scale is well above 3.4.

Prior to this time, I was mulling the idea of not writing GRE but since I've finally registered and have a date in sight, I just have to do well in it and report my scores. Whether my GRE score is good enough or not, I'll still need to focus on my SOP and other aspects.

I am a bit constrained by choice of Universities. I'm planning to apply directly for Ph.D in Environmental Engr under Civil Engr. My research interest is in physical and chemical treatment of wastewater. I've checked the research done by the faculty in these universities and have already contacted most of them. These final 4 schools are the ones I have left after narrowing down a long list of potential schools.

However, like Scholastica rightly said, my GRE scores could even serve to throw open more options for me. If I get great scores, I had will be better positioned to apply to top-tier schools that do not require transcript evaluation. The only snag however is the deadline of Dec 15 which I can't meet. One other thing that can strengthen my profile is for me to publish my M.Sc thesis. The manuscript has been ready and edited by my supervisor for months but the publication fee is holding me back. All is well!

Thank you all for your advice. From them I can make informed decision. I'll appreciate if you guys could provide me with reputable free publication journals and reputable Civil and Environmental Engineering PhD programs in my line of research interest that do not require transcript with high acceptance rate. I will also apply to Michigan Technological University since it charge no application fee or official transcript. Thank you all. It is well

Thank you for your contribution sir. I've just explained in my last post why these 4 schools seem to be top on my list.

I have contacted POIs and grad cord in the Civil and Environmental Engr Dept and they seem to be optimistic about my chance of getting admitted. I am constrained to apply to just 4 schools due to finance so I am circumspect about my choice of schools.
