@Pakistan defence

How can Senegal order 4 jets and the deal will be signed later? Have you ever seen a modern day business deal that is not signed and called a deal? Read what you wrote again, and stop spreading fake news. Senegal has not ordered any jet. They may, but they have not.

We had previously discussed this a few months ago. Someone asked how far this project was....well here's your answer smiley. A clue as to whether this technology will be used for military purposes.... its being funded by Armscor.

http://www.defenceweb.co.za/mobilesite/defenceweb/home/item_id-49827/

"Passive radar technology is being developed in South Africa by the CSIR, academic institutions (the University of Pretoria and University of Cape Town) and private companies (Peralex Electronics and Lochtron) as well as Armscor, which is providing funding and support.

Prototypes have been built and tested from 2013. In the Western Cape, passive radar receivers were able to detect large airliners at bistatic ranges of 500 km and also detect and track a Cessna 208 light aircraft. A test in Gauteng in 2013 was able to detect a Cessna 172 aircraft flying at 2 000 feet above ground level at a bistatic range of 168 km and accurately predict the revolutions per minute of the aircraft's propeller. . These tests were done by using FM radio transmissions as the illuminator of opportunity. There are currently passive radar receivers at the CSIR and South African National Space Agency Space Operations.

The CSIR is also working on using passive radar to detect and track small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), using DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting - Handheld) television signals. Using these short-range signals, the CSIR was able to detect a DJI Phantom small UAV in a test conducted at the CSIR's facilities in Pretoria.

Unlike traditional radar, passive radar only needs a receiver to detect signals emitted by other sources, such as FM radio towers, TV transmitters, WiFi and weather radar. This makes passive radar (also known as passive coherent location, passive bistatic radar, piggyback radar and covert radar) cost effective, safe (no emissions) and highly mobile. . By using several antennas one can use triangulation to identify the location of an aircraft, or by using a single receiver one can use the angle of arrival of the signal to determine a target's location."

Aint no assault like air-assault.

Personally, Para-bats aside, I think 6 S.A.I (and First City) are the pearl of the regular army.

Passive PESA is the easiest type of radar to build. Even Korea and India, etc have gone beyond PESA, they are busy with AESA radar. China has moved ahead of AESA to build QUANTUM radar.

Its the easiest to build, does not mean its easy to build. It means among all radars its the easiest radar to build. People from your part of Africa have a thinking problem and bark like a bingo over simple observations people make online.

Noticed how soldiers were in open trenches, no artillery or mortar or snipers from the opponents?
Not really. It would not be the only tank, the next tank to pop up over would be a different tank.

There where no openet it just training. But Finland would not build massive forts I mean there entire army is built to fight Russia.

O here are some numbers.

Finland population is 5.5 million, they have 26000 in the defence force, 250 000 in the active reserve 750 000 in reserve and another 1 million trained. So in war 2/5 there population is ready to fight. Now that's a country that takes defence seriously.

Aha....that's what your comment was about, a simple genuine observation. GTFOH. Your comment wasn't aimed at educating anyone. It was trying to tell people what they don't have, when you yourself can't even begin to have what those that don't have have.

Yes, you're right.

No technical specifications for Nigcomsat-2 and Nigcomsat-3 yet. We only know it will cost $550 million.

I just discovered that that Algeria will be the second African country to have communication satellite.

It will be based on the same Dong Feng Hong 4 satelite model, having the same C, Ku, Ka and L band Transponders.

I believe this source provided more details and the cost is $701m not $550m.

“The Federal Government has already commenced budgetary provision in this respect. In furtherance of the sustained commercial relations between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China, the Ministry of Finance has been negotiating with the China EXIM Bank to provide a loan facility to support a series of Nigerian developmental projects, including the manufacture and launch of NigComSat-2 and 3 at a cost of $701m.”

He added, “Both NigComSat-2 and NigComSat-3 satellites are designed to operate in a geostationary orbit and delivered to orbit locations of 19 degrees East and 22 degrees West, respectively for provision of C-Band, Ku-Band and Ka-Band payload capability for a minimum service life of 15 years.

“NigcomSat-2 is designed to cover Nigeria, Middle East, China and other Asian countries, whilst NigComSat-3 will cover Nigeria, and the South and North America. With the three satellites in orbit, it will be possible for the Nigerian telecommunications industry to dominate the African market within a period of five years after the launch of the satellites.”

Nigeria’s first communications satellite, NigComSat-1, was designed and built by the CGWIC at a cost of $400m. The satellite, which was put in the orbit in May 2007, was deorbited in November 2008 following the development of a power fault. It was replaced in December 2011 with NigComSat-1R by the same company.

In a statement made available to our correspondent, the Head of Public Affairs, NigComSat, Mr. Adamu Idris, explained that the company had been announced as the winner of a bid to provide In-Orbit Test and Carrier Spectrum Services for the Belintersat-1 satellite owned by Belarus.

The Belarus satellite, also constructed by the CGWIC, is set for launch in January 2016.
