Laura Mesi, a 40 year old fitness trainer and vlogger who lives in a small town at Lissone near Milan is believed to be the first woman in the country to marry herself.

Laura, who suffered from a heartbreak in 2015 began exploring the ideas of a solo wedding after experiencing a pain staking end to her relationship of 12 long years!

"I told friends and family that if I had not found my soul mate by my 40th birthday, I would marry myself", she told La Repubblica Newspaper.

Ms Mesi abruptly took the bull by the horns and did the 'unthinkable'. She paid for her wedding ceremony herself, had a three layer cake made, purchased her wedding gown and brides maid dresses. After the wedding ceremony, she even treated herself to her honeymoon vacation in Egypt.

" I firmly believe that each of us must first of all love ourselves. You can have a fairy tale even without the Prince." She further stated.
