What is the effect on a car if a catalyst is stolen?

How would you know when your ctalyst is stolen?

Is there anything known in mechanics that can be improvised
to stop any adverse effect of driving without a catalyst? catalyst is damn too costly you know.

Please your candid opinion is needed.

My macho said mine has been removed. He wanted to improvise something, I told him not to worry cos am not feeling the effect of its absent.

The primary function of a cat is to remove these 3 toxic chemical substance (NO2,CO,Oxides of hydrocarbon) from the exhaust stream and rendered them harmless to more environmental friendly gases (Co2,H2O,O2).
The effect that absence of cat can cause to your car is more better performance becos cat introduce a little bit of exhaust restriction to your exhaust flow and if it absent you have a better free flow but at expense of little bit of increased fuel consumption (not too significant as widely exaggerated by kazeems and co).
Note that it is a not the absence of cat that cause significant bad fuel mileage but presence of faulty cat .
The best method for testing for a working cat is using the principle of temperature testing cos a working cat temperature can be up to 600-800 Celsius .
So if your cat has been removed and your budget cannot afford the real original one ,don't let your kazeems talked you into introducing foreign material or " ladipo worked catalyst " to avoid creating issues for your car.

Catalytic converter doesn't improve fuel economy, matter of fact... It's the other way round cos it causes back pressure which impedes performance. Your car breaths freely and performs better with cats removed, you get more horses but might lose some insignificant amount of torque. There are facts littered on the Web with enthusiasts confirming their hypothesis with car Dyno.
