Leicester boss Puel ready to oversee three major sales

tribalfootball.com

Nov 23, 2017 4:39 AM

Leicester City boss Claude Puel is ready to sell two strikers in January.

The Mirror says Puel has refused to rule out selling the Foxes ' former record signings Ahmed Musa and Leonardo Ulloa, along with defender Yohan Benalouane when the window in the New Year.

Strikers Ulloa and Musa both made club history when they joined for £10m and £16m respectively in 2014 and 2016, while Benalouane cost £5m.

However, the trio have not played a minute of Premier League football so far this season under Craig Shakespeare and his October replacement Puel.

He said: “Some players for the moment are starting players, on the bench, or cannot play, but for these games they can have some opportunities to play, so it's important to keep them with a positive attitude, strong and with hard work on the pitch.

"And for this moment they are professional and very concentrated about training sessions."

8 things you should know about ‘The YAK’ Yakubu Aiyegbeni as he retires.

Power-moving forward, Yakubu Aiyegbeni has called time on his playing career after two decades of endless bullying of defenders and causing havoc for goalkeepers.

On Wednesday, Yakubu had this to say: “I would like to officially announce my retirement from professional football today.”
Clubless since leaving Coventry City in April, the colossal Nigerian waited until his 35th birthday to break the silence.

The striker spent half his club career in English football, graciously kitting for seven sides. Four of which – Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Everton and Blackburn Rovers were in England’s top division.

He proved his ability as a marksman over a long period. Like his popular chant, ”feed the Yak and he will score.’

Below are the 8 most important things you should know about Yakubu’s amazing
footballing career.

[i]1. Yakubu Aiyegbeni was the first African to score a UEFA Champions League hat-trick.

2. Yakubu Aiyegbeni is the highest Nigerian goalscorer in the Premier League (95 goals).

3. Yakubu Aiyegbeni is 3 highest-scoring African in the Premier League with 95 goals, behind Togolese Emmanuel Adebayor, 97 goals and Ivorian Didier Drogba, 114 goals.

4. Yakubu Aiyegbeni has the most Premier League hat-tricks for an African player (4).
5. Yakubu Aiyegbeni is one of 2 African players to score four goals in a single Premier League match.

6. Yakubu Aiyegbeni is one of the three teenagers to have scored a hattrick in the UEFA Champions League [Maccabi Haifa vs Olympiakos] 2002, alongside Raul Gonzalez and Wayne Rooney.

7. Yakubu missed a 4-yard sitter in Nigeria’s 2010 FIFA World Cup game against South Korea.

8. Yakubu is Nigeria’s third highest goalscorer in history with 21 goals with 57 caps behind Rashidi Yekini, 37 and Segun Odegbami, 22.

The Yak, however, waited until his 35th birthday to call it quit from the game of football.

That Algeria draw did the damage. When you cannot beat a team over 20 places below you what do you expect?

The Argentina friendly carried just 1point while the Algeria game carried 2.5.

Thank God we played that Argentina friendly it raised us a little cos after that Algeria draw our ranking points dropped from 721 to around 650. The Argentina win brought it up back to 670.

Hehehehe, and some were expecting us to climb up to the 25th position.

Good news for Vincent??

Vincent Enyeama's coach suspended -

The coach of Vincent Enyeama at French club Lille, Marcelo Bielsa has been suspended "pending an investigation".

The 2010-11 Ligue 1 champions are fighting a surprise relegation battle this season — and the notorious Argentinian boss is fighting to save his job.

It has never been a good time for Enyeama since the arrival of Bielsa as he was frozen out of first team action until recently by the coach for no explicable reason.

Though not yet confirmed, Bielsa's offense is off the pitch as it has emerged he traveled to Chile to visit his former assistant Luis Bonini, who is battling stomach cancer, without the club's permission.

Bielsa was Chile manager from 2007 to 2011.
His former assistant Bonini is reported to be under heavy sedation and another of Bielsa's former assistants Gabriel Aravena is quoted as saying: "He is closer to God than us right now.

Bielsa — nicknamed El Loco (The Crazy One) — is well-known for his flamboyant style of management.

Pep Guardiola once labeled him the "best manager in the world", while also crediting him as his tactical inspiration.

Yakubu Aiyegbeni: A Forward Nigeria May Never Have Again
Posted by George on Thu 23rd Nov, 2017 - tori.ng

When names of some of Africa’s greatest strikers are mentioned, the likes of Roger Milla, George Weah, Abedi ‘Pele’ Ayew and Nigeria’s Rashidi Yekini come to mind.

These men thrived in the 80s and 90s, demonstrating considerable attacking prowess and terrorising Africa's defences.
In the 21st century, Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto’o and Asamoah Gyan are among the continent's top picks, but Yakubu Aiyegbeni also deserves consideration among these all-time classic African hotshots.

The widely travelled forward has confirmed his retirement at the age of 35, and his is a career worth celebrating. Starting his professional career on the local scene with Julius Berger FC of Lagos in 1997, the Yak moved to Maccabi Haifa in 1998 and it was here his reputation for scoring goals came to the fore as he registered 24 league goals in 49 apperances for the Israeli outfit.
Aiyegbeni made a bigger name for himself during the 2002/2003 Uefa Champions League season where he banged in a hat trick in a 3-0 triumph over Olympiakos, and also scored from the spot in another 3-0 victory over heavyweights Manchester United.

Portsmouth took him on loan in January 2003 and he was an instant hit, scoring seven goals in 13 games as Pompey gained promotion to the Premier League.

His move was made permanent that summer and the Nigerian would go on to become a household name in the English top flight. Over the course of spells with Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Everton and Blackburn Rovers, Aiyegbeni scored 96 Premier League goals, the second highest African after Didier Drogba's 104 strikes.
He scored a total of 119 goals in English football, playing for seven different clubs.

Aside from his successful stint in England, Yakubu piled his trade in the Chinese Super League with Guangzhou R&F FC between 2012 and 2013, scoring 24 goals in 43 apperances. Some of his less successful spells came with Qatari club Al-Rayyan and Turkish Super Lig side Kayserispor, but at this stage, his prolific career was coming to an end.

One of Yakubu's qualities, something which not all of Africa's top hitmen have managed, is to demonstrate his goalscoring form both at club and international level.

His form in front of goal in the Premier League was translated to his Super Eagles career, where he scored 21 goals in 57 appearances at a ratio of 0.36 goals per game, making him the third highest Nigeria goalscorer in history behind Yekini and Segun Odegbami.

One of Aiyegbeni’s worst days as a player came in the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa when he missed a sitter from six yards in the final Group B game against South Korea.

It was a game Nigeria needed to win to stand any slim chance of qualifying for the last 16, having lost to Argentina and Greece already.

Although he scored from the spot to level things up at 2-2, his miss remains unforgivable among Nigerian fans to date, and he continues to be a subject of bantering.

Yakubu’s commitment to the national team has however been questioned in the past.

During the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations, he, along with Victor Agali and Celestine Babayaro, were sent home for indiscipline.

Aiyegbeni refused to play at the 2006 edition of the competition, and while this irked Nigerian supporters, his then club – Middlesbrough – praised him for his decision.

Hate him or love him, Yakubu Aiyegbeni’s efficiency in front of goal at his peak made him a class apart and a terror to goalkeepers.

None of the current crop have come close to his record both at club and national team, and it's hard to see how he will be emulated any time soon.

For all he’s contributed to the beauty of the game, the Yak is going to be missed.

The FIFA ranking is not as easy as 1+1=2.

It is a 4year ranking. Just one win in an international friendly that doesn't carry much weight in the ranking is not enough to cause that kind of leap.

The result against Algeria matters more.

Let us beat Argentina again in the WC and you'll see the leap.

Everton over Liverpool? No. The Intensity Liverpool play and train with will certainly improve Shehu Abdullahi. He will also train in a high technical system which will make him an asset to technical play of our team. If he has a chance, he should join Liverpool and train on a very high level.

He might become bench keeper for Liverpool o. In the right side of the defence he has to compete with Nath Clyne, Gomez and Alex Arnold. In the midfield, henderson, naby Keita, Milner, caen. Sitting on the bench will rob him of match fitness and confidence.

There is growth when competing against those ahead of you. No guarantee Shehu Abdullahi will play regularly for Everton but what is sure is that he will improve training with Liverpool more than Everton. In turn becoming a better and more important player.

Onazi reacts to Super Eagles' shock drop on FIFA rankings -

Super Eagles Assistant captain, Ogenyi Onazi has reacted to the latest edition of the FIFA rankings in which the Nigeria national team dropped nine places from 41st to the 50th position in the world.

Like many football fans, Onazi is taken aback that the Super Eagles is ranked lower despite the team's recent performances; including the thrilling 4-2 win over two-time world champions, Argentina in a high profile friendly in Krasnador, Russia.

Speaking to AOIFootball.com from his base in Turkey, Onazi said he is by no means bothered about this latest rankings even as he also admitted that he does not know how FIFA arrives at the final decision in its ratings.

“Well, I don’t know how this FIFA ranking thing works but it doesn’t matter whatever position we are ranked. The current ranking is not a position of the way things are. it’s just not fair we dropped despite the performances we put up in the qualifiers and even in the friendly match against Argentina,” he said.

With this latest Super Eagles are now ranked 8th in Africa after Senegal (23), Tunisia (27), Egypt (31), Congo DR (36), Morocco (40) , Burkina Faso (44) Cameroon (45).

When you draw with a team that is ranked far below you, you lose points. The calculation is not all addition there are negative operations embedded in it. And besides it is a 4 year ranking period. Although the more recent results carry more weight. A bad result we got 3-4 years could also be a contributing factor.

Thank God for that Argentina win else our ranking points would have been about 611. The win against Argentina brought it back to 671

Don't say I didn't tell you.

You will see things for your self the day the ranking is released.

Loew rates Morocco higher than Nigeria
By Editor | 23 November 2017 | 4:26 am

Germany Coach, Joachim Loew sees Morocco as the most dangerous team from Africa going to the World Cup despite the fact that Nigeria was the first team to make it to Russia from the continent, reports owngoalnigeria.com.

Sharing his expectations of the World Cup yesterday, the coach of the reigning world champions said of all the five teams from Africa Morocco stands out because of the quality of its players and football.

Germany will be in action in the World Cup 2018 in Russia and Loew while speaking on their chances and options available to him ahead of the championship also shed lights on teams he expect to do well at the World Cup.

“We know some very good teams from all over the World are coming, like in Africa Morocco did well in the qualifying series and they will be the team most people would be expecting to pull surprises from Africa,” he said.

Morocco, just like Nigeria, stayed undefeated throughout the qualifying series but unlike Nigeria they didn’t concede a single goal.

The reason why we dropped was from the weight of our four year rankings. Our fourth year in particular in this regards. One of the things I admire about you is how you go to great lengths to defend our players even in thier bad times, that's shows deep loyalty. I also like your positivity but word of advice try not to go through long arguments or get emotional on peoples opinions, you have to know no matter how right you think you are Nigerians are egoistic and would not always agree with your points because they feel they are as right as you do. Make your point and don't be upset when you are tagged defender of iheanacho, you have a right to your opinion.

Everyone or most of us understand that formula.. And no one said we lost points from either of those games. However, the tool is out there on Fifa's website, and anyone can use it. e no be like exam when dem say make person no use calculator. So before you calculate and confuse yourself, let's go back to the main point again. You stand by your word abi? Okay, so when will Nigeria be 25th in the World like you earlier said?
