What official language.. Wetin concern the local people with official language.. The people in the village care about English? They just want to speak their local dialect, those pupils at these local places find it hard to understand teachings in English.. And If you can't understand what they are teaching from that age..it will be hard to meet up BluntBoy: 1 Like |

burticious: Official language unifies us. How would you teach Biology to a class in a school in Abuja or Lagos? You will use Yoruba? Or would you make three diagrams and label one in Yoruba, one in Igbo and the last in Hausa? When we say official language, we are talking about the necessity of a unifying language in a formal setting. Nigeria is a multi ethnic state. She needs an official language, at least, for formal interactions. |

jstriker442:I am not a linguist but I believe pidgin can be standardised. The lexicon can be enriched with even borrowed vocabulary. All languages in d world went through a transformational process. If I may ask, is it same English spoken in d middle ages that is been spoken today or sane Yoruba or Igbo of our grand parents spoken by our generation, even d English of d 1900s is different from d one we speak now. I would have suggested our local languages but that can't work because we are a multi lingual country.pidgin is the only language universal in Nigeria. |

All I'm saying is this all subject can be simplified and explained better in our local language if it can be explain in Chinese and Spanish etc.. Our education system needs to be reformed.. We cant go further as a continent if we refuse to develop with local languages..if you understand something you should be able to explain in your local language BluntBoy: |

BluntBoy:Excuses excuse Excuses. Finalnd has got only 5.4% of its population as Swedes and yet Swedish is used as a medium of instruction up to University level. Why can't you start by adding another language to english? Start with elementary school, then secondary school then state universities and polytechnics |
Re: Teacher Uses Extraordinary Chalkboard Drawing Skills To Teach Students Anatomy by SmallSimba: 10:12am On Nov 24, 2017 |
jstriker442: This is a very ignorant statement. How can you have a language without structure? And what is teaching except COMMUNICATION? Would you say Chinese has structure? Yesterday i go to work. Today I go to work. Tomorrow I go to work. Inferior, enslaved minds. |
Re: Teacher Uses Extraordinary Chalkboard Drawing Skills To Teach Students Anatomy by SmallSimba: 10:16am On Nov 24, 2017 |
BluntBoy: Yes. Its called schools in the catchment area. Those who don't want, can go to private schools which will teach in English. A few schools schools should pursue Bilingualism. What is going now in Kenya and Nigeria (I'm Kenyan) is one of the reasons for underdevelopment. |
Re: Teacher Uses Extraordinary Chalkboard Drawing Skills To Teach Students Anatomy by BluntBoy(m): 10:17am On Nov 24, 2017 |
SmallSimba: Finnish and Swedish are the official languages. Also, you must understand that Nigeria is different from Finland. Nigeria is a multi ethnic state. Which of the indigenous languages would you pick? If you pick Hausa language, the rest would shout Sharia or islamization. If you pick Yoruba language, Igbos and Hausas would kick. If you pick Igbo language, Hausas and Yorubas would be uncomfortable. It just can't work in Nigeria without it generating into tribal conflicts. Nigeria's political and ethnic setup is far different from that of Finland. |

Maybe we can consider it later. [/quote] Sorry I keep coming back. But u must please understand that the failure of our educational system is one of the very major root causes of the lacuna we are in as a country. U can't build a country without an educated populace. Even majority of the supposed educated Nigerians are either undereducated or highly miseducated. That is why things are this bad in our country. We need to effectively tackle the challenge of our very inefficient educational system by effectively getting all our citizens educated by further simplifying the process and instructional content. Sorry once again for taking ur time |

burticious: You are talking to people who can't grasp a very basic concept. Iceland has a population of 350,000 people - that's less than the number of teachers in Nigeria. They use Icelandic from pre-primary to university level. The people are just giving excuses because they think that Education must be in English. 1 Like |

The education system in this country has changed. It is all about who has more connections. When it comes to text book recommendations for schools and not about the content. While in primary school, I witnessed such drawings with different color of chalks. |

SmallSimba: Then, there are a lot we have to let go. We have to let go of our foreign religions as well. In short, we need to revert to traditions. I do not believe that English alone underdeveloped us. What about our attitudes too? What about pervasive corruption and personal greed? When we talk about African underdevelopment, foreign language is just only one factor. China began to progress, not ordinarily because they speak Chinese but because they got their acts right. They voted zero tolerance for corruption and invested heavily in technology. You shouldn't also forget that they kept their indigenous religions as well. Have you kept the religion of your forefathers? 1 Like |

Thank you for understanding where I'm coming from .... Do you know how many people hate maths or fail maths.. It's not because they are so daft.... It's because they lost the interest when they were in primary school or in junior classes.. All because they can't understand the maths in English language.. Now imagine they were thought in their everyday language.. How simple it will be for them.. Don't tell me we cant translate maths into our local language.... Most of our teachers sef.. Don't think they know what they are teaching o.. They all cram from the book and download to the pupils.. Few of them can explain in simplest language SmallSimba: |

ewebiodun:No need to be sorry frnd, we learn from healthy discussions. You should know by now that our problem is not language based. Tribe i'd agree to, but not language. Education is communication, communication is understanding. Pidgin cud actually make us understand better, but it will not solve our problems. It will even create more of ts own in the long run. Even the native english speakers do make mistakes u knw. But that doesnt limit their thinking. |

My point is that.. We can't go forward as a continent if we refused to embrace our own culture and languages and make use of it to move up... If not we will still be doing follow follow to these glorifies countries... Imagine how they brainwashed Ajayi Crowther into translating English Bible just to enslave our minds.. And that one too translate Yoruba orisha ESU as Satan in the English Bible.. Whereas he simply translated Jesus as Jésù, Moses as Mósè, joseph as Jósẹ́fù and so on.. You too can check further.. So why Satan now Èṣù.. Why not simply Satani.. Brethren we need to embrace our culture and we can only move forward with our language.. Imagine how much damage our lawmakers has done to our country with their big English which ordinary man on the streets can't understand.. Now imagine if they are all in our language.... And lastly.. To the ordinary Nigerian.. Pidgin is our official language.. Not English |

jstriker442:Really nice post. "education is communication, communication is understanding". I would say education is knowledge, knowledge is power. How can u explain to an illiterate that it is possible for man to go to the moon and even live there if not by building his knowledge through formal education. You have enlightened him and he is no longer ignorant, he begins to seecd world different from is myopic mindset. The reason I believe u r less if a problem to the betterment of Nigeria is cos u r formally educated. The fastest way to equip every Nigerian for development of the country is by simplifying education. |

ewebiodun:Our fathers before us grew up with vernacular, studied(english) in school and excelled. Education will be simplified when the society agrees to do so, not when the method of standard communication is lowered. |
