Rohr Scouts For Reliable Players As Back-up To Mikel, Echiejile, Ighalo

Exclusive By Johnny Edward: Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, is looking for ‘special ball players’ who can hold the ball in tight match situations to play backup roles in his World Cup squad, Completesportsnigeria.com has learnt.
According to a close source, the German still has some backup positions in some key areas to fill ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Those positions are that of Elderson Echiejile, Mikel Obi and Odion Ighalo, according to the source.
“Against Algeria, away, the team could not hold the ball well and always ceded possession too easily. A good team would have punished the Eagles for that,” an impeccable source told
Completesportsnigeria.com.
“He (Gernot) admits he has a lot of work to do, but I believe he will succeed due to his good approach.
“Firstly, he hopes for a good draw that won’t necessarily seal our fate before the kickoff of the World Cup itself, a good preparation for the World Cup and some luck.”
“Some positions are covered, but he still needs options for other key positions and those areas are very vital.
“In those positions, he is looking out for players with the quality who can play the ball comfortably with their feet when under pressure by the opponents.”
Nigeria have been put in pot 4 ahead of the FIFA World Cup draw in Kremelin, Russia on the 2st of December.

On behalf of forgiveness, I recommend Jelili Ajagun and Abdulraheem Lawal. There's also Josh Onomah as well.

I think Iorfa is better and more experienced. However, Rohr seems to know the german terrain better.

people should know these,TALENT,PERFORMANCE,GOOD FORM,etc are not the only things that determines your invitation to the national team.
u may be performing better than some of the players being invited yet u might not merit d invitation.

before clamouring for invitation of some players especially those that have reached their peak or possibly passed their primes,i'm talking about specifically for those players that have been tested and trusted, and have played to the highest level in the past, and are still doing well till date,
those that have done the GWG in the pasted and have given their all,now they have left the national team for so long.
before calling back such players, there are so many vital things we should consider, which without those things,i would b impossible to achieve anything with such players.
apart from their talents and their current performances,
(1)do we still GUARANTEE THEIR 100% COMMITMENTS?
(2) DO THEY STILL HAVE THE ZEAL FOR THIS GAME?
(3) ARE THEY STILL AMBITIOUS ENOUGH IN THE GAME,having done all that there is to do?
(4) DO THEY STILL HAVE THE HUNGER STRONG ENOUGH TO DO ANYTHING TO WIN A GAME.
(5) DO THEY STILL HAVE THE PASSION TO GIVE HIS BEST FOR THIS COUNTRY?

the players in questions are:
MARTINS,TAIWO,OSAZE,J.OBI,
etc

it's not just enough to play well week in week out but,
my questions are
(1)can we guarantee that these players still have the hunger and above mentioned qualities to win us championships?
(2) is it proper for us to invite those players that have left national team longer than 3yrs that r still doing well?
irrespective of their hunger, zeal, passion, commitment, obstruction of team team chemistry and the rest,

@KOMEKN

There is no player among those you listed that don't have the hunger to play for the National team if called nau nau. However, I am of the school of thought that you don't discard players based on age or how long they have not been with the team as long as they are doing well in their various clubs.

But among those players listed I am convinced Martins and Joel can add quality to the national team.

Martins Obafemi just singlehandedly won the Chinese FA cup for his club even against the second best team in China while Joel Obi is the engine room of Torino. I still believe Sone Aluko also can add quality to the team. He was among the top 5 players in the Championship last season and he has already assisted 4 times in 16 matches this season.

Iheanacho rated average at Leicester

November 24, 2017

Bajo Kelvin EPL

Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho’s performance has been rated as “average” since his big summer move from Manchester City to former English Premier League champions, Leicester City, AOIFootball.com can report.

According to Leicester Mercury, the former Nigerian youth international’s career has not blossomed as expected. Furthermore, Iheanacho is seen as a player whose career at Leicester has been hampered by injury.

His impressive 17-minute cameo in the final pre-season friendly against Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he provided an assist for Jamie Vardy, came to a premature end.

Also, it is believed that a “pesky toe injury slowed his progress, and he has struggled to nail down a place in the starting line-up.”

He has seemed a little lost when asked to perform a Shinji Okazaki tribute act behind Vardy, and has not yet had the chance to shine in his favoured position on the last defender.

Though Iheanacho scored a fine goal in the last Carabao Cup victory against Leeds, it is hoped he will be able to build on that.

How he will fit under Claude Puel, if the new manager wants to play 4-2-3-1 with Riyad Mahrez in a central role, remains to be seen.

But despite his travails and struggles in his club, the 21-year-old has excelled for the Super Eagles recently, scoring a goal and providing two assists in the comeback win against Argentina’s Albiceleste in an international friendly at the Krasnodar Stadium in Russia.

To sum it up, Iheanacho’s stats in 13 games for Nigeria is startling, with the forward boasting of 8 goals and 4 assists for the Super Eagles.

Onyekuru can't be my No 9 - Anderlecht coach blasts -

NAIJA PLAYERS ABROAD By: Linus Onyeze | 25/11/2017

Anderlecht coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck has told Super Eagles striker Henry Onyekuru he cannot play as the top striker for the team.
Onyekuru has been suggested as an alternative to Lukasz Teodorcyzk in the No 9 role, as the Poland striker has failed to fire this season after he finished as joint top scorer with the Nigerian in the Belgian top flight last season.
But the Anderlecht coach, who has offered the Nigeria star the chance to lead the attack on a number of occasions, but says it has not worked out as Onyekuru does not have the right movement.

“No, he cannot play that (top striker) in the system with one top striker,” said Vanhaezebrouck.
“I have tried that a couple of times, but he has not been up to it.
“He does not have the right movement for that position. He thinks he can do it, but he does not know where to position himself.
“But if he plays from the flank, he could still get to the top of the attack a few times.”

Lol, I knew it has to be hospital matter. 3 European teams can't be in same group.

On a more serious note, to win the world cup you just have to go 7 games unbeaten. Better still 4 games unbeaten after the group stage. Any lucky good team with self belief can do it.

what dah hell is Ike shorunmu problem with Enyeama? Even when it's glaring that the current keepers in eagles, apart from Uzoho, are not world-class materials. Could it be jealousy or something? I see why most of these indigenous coaches fail when they are given a chance to manage the team. They are very sentimental, corrupt and jealous @ the achievements of other players. #pathetic

Bruh, the guy (Ike) is not actually wrong. Why? You may ask. For a team (be it football or biz) to succeed three things are required from the team members which are the Fit, Skill, and Will.
The Fit - So many people will agree that Enyeama is not the most humble keeper when it comes to the NT. Will he be able to obey the instructions and not forment trouble? This is a team that reports early to camp and have shown some levels of discipline that has been lacking few years back.

The Skill - He has been injured for long and coming back we don't know if he will be as sharp as he used to be. Maybe or maybe not

The Will - He has not shown any sign of wanting to be back, so pushing for his return might not be good for the team. He might not be motivated to give his all.

If any and I mean any of these factors is lacking from the players that will eventually represent us in the WC, then we can as well start parking our bags even before our arrival there. Meanwhile, I used to be in awe of his goal keeping ability but sentiment is never good when choosing team members

Yea, this is definitely serious malaria induced dream. There are too many incompatibilities with your dream to be real:

1. Belgium and Portugal cannot be in the same group because they are both in pot 1.
2. Three European countries cannot be in the same group. You can't have more than 2 Euro countries in any group.
3. Your permutations presupposes that we would top our group. Hence, the chances of meeting a country like Germany in the round of 16 is remote since Germany is likely to top their group as well.

And I can go on and on to deconstruct your dreams but I am running out of time and patience!

This guy doesn't seem to like Onyekuru. He probably isn't impressed with his work rate or its something personal. Just last week he said Onyekuru was more focused on playing in the world cup than the team.

The man is very correct. Henry cannot play as a lone striker. No serious coach will play him in that position.
He's not well built to play with his back to goal and he has the movement of a wing forward not a top 9. Same with the Super Eagles when we talked about ditching Kelechi in Rohr's 4-5-1 formation. We all saw the difference Odion made when he came back into the team.
Morata is suffering from this same deficiency at Chelsea. He has great movement but very poor with his back to goal.

If you want us to take you seriously give us news about the Super Eagles and not just the annoying blogging captions.

Mujtahida:
Why can't we produce players like Ronaldo or Messi or Neymar?
We have always produced them, but their development to become truly established over time leaves much to be desired. Mickel was in the class of Messi in 2005, but Messi's development in Barca was different from the turn of events with Mickel in Chelsea. Mickel was converted to a Makelele cos Mourinho believed there were more established midfielders in Chelsea at the time.
