I assume saving up is something you’re keen to do. Here’s a tip: it’s a lot cheaper to buy in bulk from the supermarket (not off licence shops oh!).

Take your standard box of Walkers Crips (mixed variety) for example: A box of 40 at Iceland costs £4.00 - that’s 10p per pack. Your average vending machine sells the exact same pack for 60p.

That’s 50p more expensive. Might sound little but it all adds up over time...

Because money hard to find in the UK Because bills and tax is very high but we thank God .... Seen so many Nigerians who have been able to break through and earning very well . Especially those who do contract corporate or locumn job on good daily rate

Also why is it hard to accommodate people in UK cos i remember UKmigrant also said something about a friend that didn't show up to pick him up in UK. How is an extra person you accommodate affecting bills? I understand the water bill part because he will be using water but other aspects, i dont understand.

Everything in life is a factor of pepper..... for those who are doing well they dont blink but not everyone doing well. ....

Houses are small here as well. You see some families in shared accomodation or very small space so where the space to host others . However some have enough spare rooms . ....maybe heathrow far from the house . Also during the day if everyone is at work or out then no heating is on but if i have guest from naija when i am out the heating is on the whole day because a naija person will be feeling cold. ..... but for me it not a big deal but others that extra money to them so it can be a factor of many things

I just got an apartment and its an all inclusive bill which means I dont have to pay separately for water, electricity, gas, internet, TV licence and council tax.

If you are jobless in this country and just came here to "rough am", things might be a bit hard for you but you'd be fine as long as you have a steady job.

Your inclusive bill is great now but for how long . One day you move pass renting and get a mortgage (amen) . Then come back and read this statement . Also the fact that you dont pay it separately doesn't mean anything , it has been factored into the rent . The council , gas , internet must collect them money ?. either from you directly or from the landlord . It gets paid somehow . Some cities are cheaper than others so if you are in an affordable city or shared accommodation that helps a lot at the beginning

You give good examples of Tax that dont exist in these other countries TV licence and council tax . In UK PAYE is 40% after 45k (which is ridiculous) , Inheritance tax , tax on goods and services (VAT) is a whopping 20% . In the US some states are zero tax on goods while others are around the 5% range .....5% compared to 20% are not age mates ...............Things are generally more expensive here because of the Tax structure . let not even talk about the prices for house in London now , not a mansion just a regular standard 4 bed for a family , kids nursery bill (another ridiculous cost) , as in the bills keep rolling in huge figures as your family expands

If you give 3 people same equivalent salary in the UK , US and Canada and after one year ask how Market ?? . The UK person would definitely have significantly less disposable income hence why you see US people have more cash to be dashing out . This tax you really feel it the higher the purchase price is..........For low value item you dont see it as much, but overall it all adds up ...... . When i go to the US i buy luxury goods like a fool, not because i really need more junk but only because i am overly excited how it much more cheaper than the UK . Take a simple iphone 10 or Mac Book and compare the purchase price for Uk and USA . If you lived in the USA or Canada first and then move to the UK second you just be shouting that wetin be this and it really more obvious when you first move.

That been said , when you live in UK , the tax doesn't mean much after a while and becomes a way of life. UK is a welfare country so people are taxed to pay for the low income earners (f you are low income or poor here , the benefit system takes care of you way more than the USA ) and NHS so Mama Charlie must collect from every penny you earn . You just give it to them and plan with what you have ....

If you get a job you will be asked to show your immigration status, if you want to rent a property you be asked as well . The system is putting things in place to make it harder for illegals .

Since i been here marriage visa went from 2 to 5yrs, Income requirement was put for marriage visa, Overstayer to be made legal changed from 14 to 20 years and children 7 to 10 ....... as in kilode . It hard to keep up with the immigration laws. They wake up and change it so much . However all info will be on the home office site

The UK was much easier to get Citizenship before using 5 years route for a lot of working visa , tiers, nanny visa and hsmp . 5 years and you get ILR and 1 year later citizenship so this was a great advantage over the US (where you can be on H1B for years and nothing in the end or h1B plus another 5 years before passport) . Sadly this has changed significantly as they made ILR harder and canceled hsmp, PSW and just made the system much harder .
