Martins getting better for a club does not mean he will be better for us.

Stop equating club performances to National teams first of all. Only then can you understand football.

Aguero that scores on a daily for City, what does his performance for Argentina look like? How many goals does Mikel have in China? And in that period, how many did he get for Nigeria? Musa that has barely kicked a ball for Leicester, did he not get an assist in minutes?

The sooner you realise that club football and performances are not a reflection of national team, the sooner we can have a proper conversation.

Martins has never been prolific for Nigeria.
I think his goals helped us qualify for SA 2010 WC the never prolific might be a bit exaggerated Ma.

how many goals was it?

Goals that were scored eight years ago, when Forlan was still an Uruguay International? undecided

Okay, that's all for tonight. Kachifuo

But am not ready to sleep yet. Let's trash this out. Yes 8 years ago but I raised the point when you mentioned never!!!!

You people want young guys like me and Icon79 (close to 40 class) to feel old, haba Martins isn't too old now.

Infact maybe Ogbechie too deserves a second chance sef. He was too young when he featured for us. How many Nigerian strikers are scoring hat tricks now.

'Old' people shouldn't be marginalized in the SE, the team belongs to us all, #bring back Martins and Bartho!!!!

Ha ha ha, it's not like Argentina used to dash us 3-0 and above in our previous meetings.

They have been lucky, the last two times we met them, always escaping with just a goal.

In 2010 WC,it was 1-0 and In 2014 WC, it was 3-2.

We should admit that we have a very weak left-side for the 3-5-2 formation.

Did you not say "most of our goals came from the right?"

What if a team decides to pay special attention to our right side, shutting down our attacks and attacking our right just to stop us from attacking?

What then will be the reaction of our weak left-side if they decide to "defend" at the left and wait for the right to initiate both attacks and counter-attacks?

We should work on our left-side starting from the LCB.Balogun is slow and right-footed(I stand to be corrected) and shouldn't have played in that position.

I've already talked about that of Idowu.

If we could get a good left-footed player. We can play him in the LCB and probably draft V.Moses to the LWB.

Doing the above means bossing the both flanks. The opposing team might have no choice but to try the middle where they will meet both Onazi and Ndidi.

With this, even Germany go confirm say Nigeria sabi ball.

We can now say go!!! Super Eagles.

And who says we no fit win world cup with this formation and the right players?
First off, for the national team if you don't have players of certain qualities you don't go and purchase like clubs do. If you don't have you don't have.
If you have a left footed CB that can replace Balogun please recommend to us.

Secondly, our attack can also be effective from the left. Players like V. Moses, Iwobi, and Simon alternate between left and Right of the attack.

We have found more joy from the right of our attack due to a seeming lack of quality in the left of the teams we have faced.

Any team that chooses to concentrate their attacks from their left just to foil our attack from our right would have themselves to blame as we have what it takes to also sting them from our left.

Talking about the technical competency of Argentina there are not more than 2 or 3 countries in the world above them. So we have tested ourselves against one of the best technically and we came out tops.

I’ve said it before if you are performing come and fight for a shirt #TeamPerformance.
Rohr doesn’t necessarily have to look at a player’s past SE performance. This is Rohr’s SE, he will call up whoever he thinks can play to his philosophy. And if he thinks Martins can, let him come to prove it.

Maradona has big plans for Nigerian striker Danjuma Ademola Kuti

Danjuma Ademola Kuti with the great Maradona, who is his coach in UAE.

World football icon Diego Armando Maradona has big plans for young Nigerian striker Danjuma Ademola Kuti at UAE club Fujairah FC.

Maradona has picked special interest in the 19-year-old Kuti, who only recently moved to the UAE, and has even brought him to train with the senior side.

A statement by the U.A.E Sports Agency which SCORENigeria received revealed that Maradona has been most impressed by how prolific the striker has been.

Presently young giant Kuti is the leading scorer of the youth team, who top the UAE Youth league table.

Last season, the youth team were crowned champions of the U19 league after Kuti put them ahead by scoring the only goal in a keenly contested match against Al Wasl F.C.

The legendary Maradona now wants Kuti to join the first-team squad, but only two foreign players are allowed by the U.A.E.F.A and already Omar Kossoko from France and one other foreign player have been registered in the first division league competition.

Maradona is presently working to put the club at top of the league saddled with the task of ensuring Fujairah FC are promoted back to Asian Gulf league after relegation in 2015.

Fujairah won the right to be in the Emirati premier professional league (Asian Gulf League) at the end of the 2012–2013 season.

At the start of the 2014–2015 they began the first-ever match in the AGL, ending the season in April 2015 in 9th place.

Nacho is not that kind of player yet. No coach is going to build the team around him. He will have to adapt wherever he goes.

Where did Mahrez play yesterday?

edi287:
As long as Leicester are playing a 4-2-3-1 / 4-4-2 with Mahrez behind Vardy, Nacho is going to have a very difficult time breaking into the first 11. When it was Okazaki playing as a second striker, I wasn't too worried as i felt Nacho could bench him as the season progressed but now Puel has decided to play Mahrez as a 10, tell me how/who is he going to bench?? People are easily writing Vardy off like he's Heskey or something...look at his numbers and tell me any sane would just drop him like that for Nacho?

I didn't want to get drawn into the "experience debate" but most times, one just have to take a stand.

Arguing for experience is not a bad thing but sometimes one should be suspicious of " experience because it sometimes lives door to narrow-mindedness, conservatism and complacency.

For instance, the more experienced Wayne Rooney got
, the worse he became and this could be said about many in the game.
Now, when it comes to Obafemi Martins, it appears he has actually got better with experience. When he was a youngster, he was difficult to play with but an absolute nightmare to play against.
Nowadays, he has modified his game and appeared to become a better team player. His partnership with Clint Dempsey was the best ever partnership witnessed in the MLS.

I saw his goal Last weekend, it was pure gold. A great fussion of everything you want in a striker, captured within 8 seconds. The speed, ball control, dribble, shot from outside the box was vintage.

At this point, I must be honest and say he deserves a look in. Let's not forget Russia used to be his play ground when he turned out for Rubin Kazan.
That guy could be an asset.
Wayne Rooney who had been written off has just turned back the clock tonight and scored a hatrick against West-Ham with a goal from behind the halfway line struck first time low, not lobbed, possible in fact probable goal of the season.

Isaac Success set to resume training in first week of December

ByAustin Peters -
November 28, 2017

Nigerian striker Isaac Success is set to resume training with Watford in the first week of December.

The 21-year-old Super Eagles attacker has been sidelined with a knee injury for the last two months and is set to miss tonight’s Premier League clash with Manchester United.

“Maybe Success looks like the next few weeks. The others we have big doubts about,” coach Marco Silva was quoted by the Hertfordshire Mercury in regards to the Hornets’ injured player.

Meanwhile, Success will resume full training with his Premier League club in the first week of December.

The forward is undergoing individual training with the club’s physiotherapists ahead of his return to action with the main squad.

Exclusive: Rohr opens World Cup door to Martins

Obafemi Martins could have a chance to play at another World Cup if he keeps maintains his scoring form, Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has told KweséESPN.
The 33-year-old, who plays in China for Shanghai Shenhua, has scored 16 goals in 39 appearances, with his last goal coming in Sunday's 3-2 second leg win over SIPG to lead his team to the Chinese FA Cup title.
The Nigerian also scored the only goal of the first leg, which saw Shenhua progress on the away-goal rule.
Martins also boasts a respectable goalscoring record at international level, netting 18 in 41 appearances, but has only played for the Super Eagles four times since 2010, with his last two appearances coming in 2015, despite impressive showings with Seattle Sounders in the MLS and now Shanghai Shenhua.
However, Rohr says he is willing to chat to the Martins to increase his options up-front.
"Yes, the door is open to all our best players, including Martins. He is scoring a lot of goals and we need to get competition for all the positions, especially centre-forward.
"For now, we have Kelechi [Iheanacho] who is playing not all the time. [But ] we played with Kelechi against Argentina and he did well.
Then Anthony [Nwakaeme] also did well against Algeria and [Odion] Ighalo, who is injured now, did very well against Cameroon. But we have also other players, like the young boy [Victor] Osimhen, and we have to look everywhere.
"We have a lot of opportunities for the strikers, and so Martins, if he is scoring goals, will be welcome."

O pari
You earn the right to play you by putting in top performances.

Unfortunately, KC has not earned the right to play because he has not performed that's why he is warming the bench and playing with the U23s. The EPL, is a very impatient league you get 2 maybe 3 games to perform if you don't, someone who is performing will take your position.

Two different managers have found him wanting that's the hard cold truth.

What we do not want to face up to is that our golden boy may not be so golden after all. No doubt KC is a very good player that was made to look excellent at City surrounded by top quality players that supported him and played to his limited strengths.

Now those limitations are being exposed and some are crying wolf.

U keep on running with this notion that for it to be racism everyone in the race must be affected but that will not always be the case. Good for Ndidi and Moses but the sudden halt of the development of our other players in most especially England is just too open to see. These are good players that are being given bad raps for no reason. The players u mentioned don't play in the top leagues like, England, Spain and Germany and IMO our players should think really hard before going to any of these leagues. Italy and France have better track records when it comes to grooming African players.
I totally disagree with you.

Will discuss in full another time in depth.

If his quality was needed so badly in the team why did the likes of Keshi,Siasia and Oliseh ignore him??

Its now that our crops of youngsters have worker hard to secured the world cup ticket that you want Martins to join the train to Russia abi??

Abeg,we made it this far without him and the oldies.. We can go further still without them...
Oga! Martins was ignored by late Keshi due to the best reason known to him, it has nothing to do with his quality.

The same man ignored Taiwo even when he made Ligue 1 team of the year and CAF team of the year. Despite Odenwingie and Ike Uche form in their various clubs, he still ignored them until he was forced to bring them to the team. It has nothing to do with their ability and quality. EOD.

Victor Moses got even worse treatment. Did that mean he was not so golden? The fact is simple. Leicester City is overloaded upfront with two club legends, Vardy and Okazaki playing in the forward role. It will take time to blend in.

Nacho's quality is not a doubt.

Messi has only played around top quality players all the time of his career, for club and country. Based on your assessment, Messi might not be quality until he plays with Huddersfield players.

Nothing like exposing limitations. Nacho is a finisher. Play him in a free flowing system, create chances and he will give amazing stats. Same goes for the likes of other top strikers. When Manchester United do not create chances, Lukaku looks ordinary. Striking is not magic.

Carry Dries Mertens and play him in that Shakespeare's system and he will look ordinary. In the brilliant system of Sarri at Napoli, Mertens looks close to World Class.

Finito.

Nigeria's Gernot Rohr issues update on Vincent Enyeama return

Email
comment
6:26 PM ET
Colin Udoh, KweséESPN
Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has acknowledged that he is hopeful that Vincent Enyeama will return to the Super Eagles setup, but has hinted that the keeper's club situation will need to improve before he could retake the No. 1 spot.

Having qualified comfortably from Group B ahead of Algeria, Zambia and Cameroon during CAF's qualifying campaign, Nigeria will learn the identities of their first-round foe in Russia in Friday's draw at the Kremlin.

While Super Eagles confidence has been boosted by a recent 4-2 come-from-behind victory over Argentina, there are still areas of weakness in Rohr's squad - notably in goal, where a selection of keepers have struggled to convince in recent months.

Long-term No. 1 Enyeama retired from international duty in October 2015 after being replaced as captain by then coach Sunday Oliseh, but with his successor Carl Ikeme ruled out following a leukaemia diagnosis, talk of The Cat's return has been rife.

"You cannot ask this question about Vincent because he is not fit," Rohr told KweséESPN, acknowledging the 35-year-old's troubled circumstances at LOSC Lille, where he has been deemed surplus to requirements by coach Marcelo Bielsa.

"He is not playing," Rohr added. "For the moment, this question, we cannot answer it because he is not playing yet.

"But I hope he will come back and if he is doing well at Lille or another club, I think he will change," the coach continued. "I hope he will be back also to continue his career."

David Rogers/Getty Images
Since Ikeme's diagnosis, the German coach used Daniel Akpeyi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa during the qualifiers, and handed a debut to youngster Francis Uzoho in the second half of the victory over Argentina.

He also has Dele Alampasu and Dele Ajiboye to pick from, with Dele Aiyenugba another option, [/b]while Rohr has also revealed that he's considering the claims of Fortuna Dusseldorf's 18-year-old German-born stopper Maduka Okoye.[b]

"We work very much on this position," Rohr added. "We took a second goalkeeper coach to work with the local coach for the goalkeepers.

"Now we have also have Francis who did well against Argentina, but still we have to work," he added. "We have still Alampasu, and I saw another one with Fortuna Dusseldorf, Okoye.

"We will look at him also."

While Ezenwa was the first choice to replace Ikeme, the stopper has had a few nervy moments - notably conceding a penalty away in Cameroon as Nigeria dropped two points - while Akpeyi was fortune to escape with a yellow card after picking the ball up outside his area during a testing first half against Argentina.

"Ezenwa did well, and now he has also the CHAN tournament coming up, so he will work more," Rohr concluded. "One goalkeeper trainer is right-footed, the other is left-footed, so it is a big quality for our goalkeepers to train with them.

"Afterwards, we will see who's the best."

While a player's club performance merits him an INVITATION to the national team, it's not club performance that settles the issues on whether a player makes the cut in the SE but performance in the Gwg. When you perform in your club, you deserve to play in your club. When you perform in the Gwg, you deserve to be in the SE.

So no need arguing. We argued on Nwakali and Osimhen. For now I doubt if anybody will call for their invitation.

Let Martins be invited. We cannot argue against performance in the Gwg. If he performs, good for the team, good for us. If he doesn't, bad for him. We lose nothing. Let arguments for his inclusion or exclusion be settled in the court of performance. Does he still have it in him to fire for us? Only Martins can answer that question.

Though my preference is for the young bloods (except a fit Enyeama) still my overall concern is for the good of the team.
