when last did he played in those leagues?

it is the same as saying that....yakubu should be recalled because he did wonders in the epl....

Martins of 3 4 5 6 years ago is different from martins of now....
your objectivity is highly questionable. First you said he has only showcased his skills in the Chinese league, then I remind of his exploits in other top leagues now you have arrived here again. So I ask, is he still scoring in the chinese league?

how many times do I have to tell you that National team and Club performance are not the same.

They are proven in the GwG, that is what matters to me. I am not in you people's club football gang, I couldn't be less interested in what is going on in their clubs.

Kayode is not one of the forwards on my list BTW, he is still on trial for National Team, so he and Obagoal are not very different as far as I am concerned
how are they proven in the GwG?

Iheanacho against Algeria twice, blank all through. Which other competitive game did he play and score? Yes Cameroon when the game was done, if that is what 'proving yourself' means then Bright Dike should still be playing for us

Iheanacho's National team stats prove that his stats in the EPL is no fluke. Considering he had limited time at City and the EPL is no walk in the park.
how many high-pressure games has Iheanacho scored in or played well? SA blank, Algeria twice blank, Cameroon return leg blank. It's not as if the stats define everything

Mascherano, despite his quality was on the bench at West Ham. Lukaku, Salah and Kevin De Bruyne were on the bench at Chelsea despite their quality. You can be good and still be on the bench in a club. Damari Gray went on a marathon on the bench at Leicester despite his quality.

Save this thread and pull it out tomorrow!!

Come tomorrow some balls will be heated, some will be chilled so the person doing the draw will know exactly what teams are coming out. Just like with every previous draw.

And by the way, I think Argentina will win the world cup. They remind me of of Brazil 2002 - they struggled with qualification, but have three amazing attacking players; same with this Argie team (Messi, Aguero, Di Maria). They were supposed to win it in 2014 but were unlucky coupled with the fact that they had a horrible coach in Tata plus Di Maria always getting injured in crucial games.

But now, everything seems to be coming together: Messi is still at his best, Sampoli is a decent coach so watch out for the Argies. Also I think Messi will trump Ronaldo's achievement with Portugal by winning the big one grin

Eguavoen: Top World Cup Teams Are Scared Of Drawing Super Eagles

Peter Oriaku

By Bamidele Boluwaji:

Former Nigeria coach Austin Eguavoen has told Complete Sports that big countries are scared of the Super Eagles ahead of the FIFA World Cup draw coming up on Friday in Moscow, Russia.

Eguavoen who led the Super Eagles to the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt said the exploits of Nigeria during the qualifiers have reawakened interest in the coach Gernot Rohr-led team.

Nigeria finished the qualifiers unbeaten and was the first African country to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia after their 1-0 win over Chipolopolo of Zambia in Uyo in October.

“I think we should just focus on a good draw because I have read many reports suggesting that Nigeria is likely to play some big names and that has caused a kind of panic to some people. But I want to tell you today that some of these big name teams are scared of the Super Eagles,” Eguavoen, who represented Nigeria at the country’s first World Cup in 1994, told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“Being the first African country to qualify for the World Cup and playing all the qualifying matches without a single defeat showed that we have a good team and that has reawakened the interest of other countries in Nigeria.

“As I speak with you, I am sure some coaches will be saying they don’t want to play Nigeria in the first round but as a coach, I believe preparation is key to any opponent you want to play.

“The boys and the coaches need the best of support they can get from the NFF, government, journalists and supporters.

“My prayer is for the Super Eagles to be in the group that will be easy for them to qualify.”

New boy, Maduka Okoye with Victor Agali... I guess Agali is doing his job of looking for players to fill weak positions.

The boy is taller than Agali.

Given that our current keepers are really not that good. We need to look for options. No one is saying Okoye should be first choice or that he should even make the WC team. He could just be one for the future.

Youth GKs abroad are often better grounded in the fundamentals of Goalkeeping than many experienced NPFL keepers.

Nigerian keepers often have to go abroad to reach their potential. Enyeama struggled a lot with crosses in his early years with Nigeria.
My brother, forget stereotype.
Every player have their weakness, Europe or no Europe. Enyeama is hardly an imposing figure, it's academic he will struggle in the early stages of his development with crosses. Even at his finest, he still struggled with crosses. Its just a matter of his height disadvantage.

Ospina is about same height as Enyeama, still he struggles with crosses till date.
This should tell you something.

At the highest level, the job description of a goalkeeper goes beyond claiming crosses and making saves. At the world stage, you talk about calmness, leadership and organisation from the back. This starts from the goalkeeper.

Do you really think some 18yr old playing in German Regional West can bring calm, organisation and leadership playing at the world stage?

i won't judge Martins based on his performance the last time he was invited, cos we have some cases where some player could not perform well under some couches, like ENYEAMA under VOLTS BETI, MIKEL under OLISEY.
what i'm concerned is his commitments, passion, hunger, ambitions etc

Our local keepers lack fundamentals. We see that even experienced local keepers struggle with basics, positioning, claiming crosses, etc. Ezenwa and Akpeyi are experienced enough to have curbed out some errors.

Ezenwa appears to be a calmer influence but he still lacks Gk fundamentals.

These foreign kids start keeping from 8-10 years and they are taught most of the fundamentals. It does not mean, they will be great keepers.

Even if Okoye does not make the WC, he should join the crop of young players coming up.

Nigeria’s best and worst case draw scenarios

https://africanfootball.com/bp_images/2017/11/10ayhzn5i51bo15vxbzblpk1ww.jpg

Nigeria midfielder John Obi Mikel
by Scent ition

Ahead of tomorrow’s draw for the 2018 World Cup, AfricanFootball looks at both the best and worst case group stage scenarios for Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

Which pot are Nigeria in?
The Super Eagles are in Pot 4 because their world ranking in October (41) put them amongst the eight lowest-rated teams to qualify for Russia 2018.

Which teams can they be drawn against?
- One of the teams in Pot 1: Russia, Germany, Brazil, Portugal, Argentina, Belgium, Poland and France

- One of the teams in Pot 2: Spain, Peru, Switzerland, England, Colombia, Mexico, Uruguay and Croatia

- One of the following teams in Pot 3: Denmark, Iceland, Costa Rica, Sweden, Iran

Which teams can they not be drawn against?
All of the other teams in Pot 4 - Morocco, Serbia, Australia, Japan, Panama, South Korea and Saudi Arabia - as well as the three Africans teams in Pot 3: Tunisia, Egypt and Senegal.

What’s their best-case scenario?
From Pot 1, Nigeria will want to draw Russia. The 2018 hosts are easily the weakest team in that pool. Short of getting the home side, Belgium and Poland are probably a touch overrated and have traditionally struggled at big tournaments.

From Pot 2 they’ll want to draw Peru, who haven’t been to the World Cup since 1982, or one of England, Switzerland or Croatia - they’re all fine teams, but not as powerful and dangerous as the likes of Spain, Uruguay and Mexico.

From Pot 3 the Super Eagles will want to draw Iceland, who are making their tournament debut and have overachieved just by qualifying. But in truth, none of the other teams from Pot 3 are particularly strong.

Summary: Russia, Peru and Iceland for Nigeria’s dream group draw.

And their worst?
It couldn’t get much worse than drawing reigning world champions Germany from Pot 1, 2010 winners Spain from Pot 2 and then Costa Rica from Pot 3 (because you can only have two European teams in a group).

Or how about Brazil from Pot 1, Spain from Pot 2 and Denmark from Pot 3? Either way, that’s about as bad as it can get for Nigeria.

Summary: Germany, Spain and Costa Rica, or Brazil, Spain and Denmark - either would represent the worst case for the Super Eagles.

Iheanacho had an injury when he arrived Leicester City. Keep in mind that Iheanacho was not meant as a quick fix. He is still a young player and will need time to blend in.

You just see 25 mil and scream must start. News flash, Vardy, Okazaki and Mahrez are team legends. They will not just dump them because the club splashed 25 million on a player.

My criticism of Shakespeare was not just playing time but his system was negatively affecting the forward players including Albrighton, Slimani, Vardy, Mahrez etc.

The South African game was poor service. Our team is weak without Mikel Obi orchestrating it.

The Algerian coached praised Nacho's game against them. Enough said there.

Cameroon second leg? Did you actually put that as your point? Nacho did not start that game. Played few minutes to the best of my knowledge.

Nacho is quality. Whether you like it or not.

Obafemi Martins likely to return to Nigeria squad

Eagles striker Obafemi Martins against Swaziland in Lobambo
by Phumzile Ngcatshe

Nigerian national team scout Victor Agali has hinted that striker Obafemi Martins and midfielder Joel Obi could make their return to the Super Eagles squad.

Igali has warned the team's fans not to be surprised if the duo is called up by coach Gernot Rohr for their games next year.

Martins ended the season in spectacular form for Chinese Cup winners Shanghai Shenhua, whilst Obi has impressed Rohr with his displays for Italian side Torino.

Their form has caught the attention of Rohr, and according to Agali, the duo are set for a recall to the team next year, but they have to keep ‎working hard.

“All players who are currently performing to expectation in their respective club sides have equal chance," Agali said to Sportsvillagesquare.

"The coach {Rohr] is a disciplinarian who welcomes players based on merit.

“Don’t be surprised to see the likes of in-form Obafemi Martins, Joel Obi and others returning to the team, and I myself won’t hesitate to scout for more legs that will help maintain the good form.”

Funny. I read this when it came out. This is over a year ago.

I have been following Guardiola since his days as a coach of Barcelona B. I was one of those who used to scream sack Rijkaard and replace him with Guardiola.

My friends thought that was the craziest suggestion ever. Few months down the line, it happened. By the end of the season, one of the greatest coaches ever.

What I am saying is that, I have read this and loads of others. Why do you think I wanted Nacho at City learning instead of seeking playing time?

I do not get you. Onyekuru is not learning top striker positioning from the coach because the coach does not want to play him there. So how will you see the development?
Yeah, you're right. You don't get me.

I was agreeing with you. What I meant was when the selfish, non - positioning Onyekuru leaves in the summer, he'd be left with his perfect positioning striker who had managed to shoot blanks all season.

World Cup winner Desailly backs Nigeria ahead 2018 finals

by Austin Ditlhobolo

Legendary French midfielder Marcel Desailly has tipped Nigeria to be one of the surprise teams at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

However, the former Chelsea FC and AC Milan player has rued the absence of Nigeria's rivals Ghana from next year's World Cup which will be hosted by Russia.

Desailly, who was born in Accra, Ghana, decided to play for France during his playing career and he enjoyed a lot of success with the European side.

The retired defender-cum-midfielder was part of the France team that won the 1998 FIFA World Cup, 2000 UEFA European Championship, and FIFA Confederation Cup twice in 2001, and 2003.

''My native Ghana did not get into the final part," Desailly told Sport Express Russia.

"This is my spiritual wound. But other African teams are able to surprise.

''And Nigeria , which has a strong squad, and the Arab countries - Tunisia, Egypt," the 49-year-old continued.

"Perhaps, the moment has come when a team from Africa will finally reach the semifinals.''

The draw for the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals will be conducted on Friday.

So, we should drop a prolific Kelechi who has scored against both mediocre and top opposition, in both competitive and friendly games, both from inside the box, outside the box, spot kicks and in open play and invite Martins and his gra gra football, abi?

Kelechi that breathed life into the team with a superb free kick when it looked like Argentina would roast us? And need I mention his assists as well? Minus his 8 goals in 14 games, when you include Kelechi's ASSISTS, you will find he has been involved in our goals almost as much as Mikel has, even with less playing time. How many assists does Martins have? Or you think it is ghosts that will create chances?

There is a reason why you people are called armchair analysts.

Argentina that is filled with old men with just four caps, three caps and all that. Not only do they have an aged team, it is an aged team with no single chemistry. Is that how the 2002 Brazilian team was? Old men that have not even spent enough time as a team to understand each other?

VIDEO: INIESTA WELCOMES NIGERIA TO RUSSIA 2018, AS MIKEL DOES THE SAME TO COSTA RICA

BY BOLAJI OKUNOLA.

Team captains of the 32 countries that have qualified for the World Cup have taken time to say a sentence of welcome to one of chosen fellow qualifiers. It was a special package that FIFA.com organized.

From Russia star, Fyodor Smolov to Jefferson Farfan, who booked the last World Cup spot with Peru, the players – speaking in the order in which their teams qualified – recorded the following statement, the first part in their mother tongue and the second in the language of the team being congratulated:

“Congratulations (name of country) – see you in Russia”
This way, Spain’s Andre Iniesta whose added time goal won his country the 2010 title, directed his words of welcome in Spanish to Nigeria. He was number 11 as Spain was the 11thcountry to qualify and therefore congratulated the next qualified team, Nigeria.

Mikel Obi whose Nigerian team was the 12thqualifier, congratulated the 13thqualifier, Costa Rica. Both teams qualified on the same day – October 7.

The video features a mosaic of languages and includes, among others, Neymar doing his best to speak Farsi, Robert Lewandowski congratulating Egypt in Arabic and Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny giving a good account of himself in Icelandic.

According to FIFA.com, the 32 players all have one thing in common as they are heading to the FIFA World Cup.

We can go on and on about Nacho being treated unjustly.

But wait, weren't there reports that suggested that Nacho wasn't bought by Craig? That it was a decision by the club management and Nacho was kinda forced on him.

You should know that most midtable teams in England make do with a small squad, since they don't participate in many competitions, and Leicester City have a relatively fit squad, when was the last time Vardy, Marhrez, Slimani, Ulloa, Okazaki, were injured??

Nacho is not needed in that team as things stand, and Puel seems really satisfied with what his present squad. Don't be surprised when, next summer comes, he decides to listen to offers for him, if he likes he should choose to remain in England to obtain the useless British passport.

Ndidi is getting playing time because he's filling a void left by Kante, since Amartey wasn't really doing a good job at that.
