You should read Malachi 1 first to understand that your message was directed at thieving Levites , who were stealing their own share of tithes given by Jews in line with Deuteronomy 14.

I love this. I have mostly taught people this chapter, and also to try see the beginning of a matter in other scriptures, and not just jump on chapters or verses from the middle. Most are blind to that book of Malachi even though it is old covenant.
