Abagworo: Just a while ago when motorbikes were banned government sang the virtues of the 'keke' as the appropriate alternative. In getting the keke banned what makes you think government will not come hard on the proposed alternative in the nearest future. Remember these are investments by a lot of people who will have taken loans, entered into contribution and are on hire purchase agreements. Sending them to the hinterlands is akin to economic execution and a government that cannot provide economic and business alternatives should not even contemplate such a hasty decision. All the states that had banned one form of transport or the other over the years have not recorded any social, economic or environmental progress whatsoever. It hasn't made their cities less congested, safer or more attractive. It has not improved tourism or brought in economic investment on its own. Countries such as India, Thailand or mighty Japan, all noted tourist destinations and investor magnets have kek's and bikes swarming all over their major cities causing chaos, traffic and fun experiences for foreigners. Our governments are just so senseless and mean. Improvement in the standard of living, providing mass public transport should be their priority not sending the already hapless citizens further into the abyss of poverty. Nonsense government. 3 Likes |

ikennaoma: Dear Political Slave, The poor are under attack 'nationally', yet war has not been declared on poverty. I do not know what stirs your emotional support for the thieving politicians and religious leaders, but what ever it is, whether you are 'eating' from them, or 'drinking' from them, there will come a time, you will be ashamed that you could not understand that the poor had no options, which is why they even engaged in this useless keke napep businesses while their 'elites' enjoy in glass houses. I am wealthy, and I stay close to the grass root so I can understand the pulse of the masses, YET some of you, who have no billion in your name are so supportive of the rich thieves while attacking me for defending our people. I am not a tribalist, I am not religious, and I am not a nationalist. So, I have nothing to gain, except to air my views and hoping that someone will begin to use his brains and understand that the poor that we so much hate, for 'defiling' our roads, are not actually happy riding these dangerous tricycles, but they have no choice. One day, the poor will have nothing to eat, but the rich. But I pray hard that such time should never come. Ride on, dear zombie Ikenna, you are doing great in your duties. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

Cjrane2: The only comparison that is relevant in that table is the per capita. India has ten times as many people, those other stats you used are useless. And as to the per capita, things started going downhill in Nigeria when certain people decided that ethnocentrism was more important than economic growth. If you look at 2014 Nigeria was ahead. Your point that India is more developed in every ramification is nonsense. Their health indices are atrocious. Their malnutrition rate is amongst the worst on the planet. Likewise childhood stunting and other evils such as the killing of wives and forced marriages. |

My O town doesn't need keke.
What we need is smart taxis.
Rochas did well in banning keke.
What is keke doing in the state capital?
Owerri must be made world class,a smart city.
We will get there very soon.
A cool civil service and hospitality driven city. 1 Like |

engrchykae: Ofcourse you need smart city, but you need people too. Cities are built for the people, so the best strategy is to make sure that no single soul goes hungry while we transition the cities. But Rochas has no smart city design in place, he has no plan to even develop the place, he is just pushing the poor to the wall and the poor are a reflection of his bad management of State resources. Our poor people are becoming suicidal. How come you all dont understand that no one wants to ride keke napep, it is actually the Rochas of a guy that manufacture the poverty we now have all over Owerri. Owerri was a great city, even my Dad tell me sweet stories of the ancient city of Owerri, but now it is just a shadow of Ajengule. 2 Likes |

Re: Keke Now Completely Banned In Owerri by engrchykae(m): 1:27pm On Dec 06, 2017 |
Billyonaire:my dear Rochas is not educated or exposed like that but there are some good we can take from what he is doing. 1.the widening of the major roads in imo state.even though the roads are of poor quality, subsequent governments can work on them and bring them to standard,we have to give him credit for having the political will to step on many toes to give imolites 5 lane roads in owerri town. Udenwa knew it was necessary but couldn't dare,Ohakim also knew it was necessary but couldn't dare. 2.the relocation of ekeukwu market is for the best interest of imo people, being situated between onitsha/owerri road and orlu/owerri road so that it will not be like ariaria and nkwo nnewi that has goods but no pliable road. What i want Rochas to do now is to ensure that the 27 general hospitals will be working and in private hands before he leaves office. As for the keke people, they have Okigwe, orlu and places like akwakuma to run. It shames me when i see the army of keke in owerri as of keke is the state vehicle of imo state. Rochas have improved the face of owerri even though he is from orlu. 1 Like |

The matter just tire me I swear, and my hostel is far from school, I will be spending #150 per day on transport. Rocha's is a curse to us. |
Re: Keke Now Completely Banned In Owerri by Abagworo(m): 2:18pm On Dec 06, 2017 |
engrchykae: Okorocha's statement read "Keke has served us well in Imo State and I want to thank you all for serving us well but as Imo State is developing and getting better with good roads and a lot of infrastructural developments, Keke can no longer be the appropriate means of transport within the Owerri City, this is why we are moving from Keke to a full car.” And he didn't lie as you can see from attached photo. There isn't much difference in quality of roads between Owerri and some advanced international cities. 1 Like
