Yea, at last developed as a result of lessons learned especially with our CT/COIN wars -- the dynamics of the terror war against BH would have been much different had it been existent then -- Army combat pilots are very effective below the radar quick kill CAS assets when embedded with tactical ground elements but also versatile in conventional warfare in taking out enemy armour, tanks, artillery, logistics, drones, trenches, foxholes, SF etcetera. Another holistic capability acquired by the Nigerian Military non-existent in contemporary African armies. The goal is to achieve and sustain the ability for decisive victory with minimal losses in both local and expeditionary campaigns by the Nigerian Army and maintain our edge over others this side of the street on the globe.

ARGHHH,please! I take the long view and see how far we've come. Fyi,one of our first sevens against Fiji at the 98 Commonwealth games,Kuala Lumpur they hammered us 71-0?! 18 years later in Singapore we hit them 30-7 to lift our first trophy. I see how we play sometimes like the game against your guys and honestly wonder if we haven't peaked.
If maybe our structures have gone as far as they can get.

No worries mate, your progress has been impressive. I wouldn't say you've peaked, just inconsistent. One just doesn't know which Kenyan team will take the field. The problem as I see it is your pipeline feeding into future teams. Too few of your schools play the game.

Base doesn't look secure. Mortar/RPG etc from rebels will make you disorganized at first before looking out for what to shoot.

Well you summed it all up. Perimeter defences were non-existent making the base occupants canon folders for enemy fire. Appalling! A clear case of ineptitude going on down there. Testament of poor training. In honor of the KIA I won't use the word Amateurs.

There's a similar base that was almost overran by bokoharam in NE. The video has been posted on Bidexii thread before where those guys claimed BHT sneaked into their base at night almost causing them to fire at each other since you can't recognize the enemy easily again.

Fortunately, there was no life lost on the part of our own guys but a soldier was shot on his leg. Base intact.

To me, lack of situational awareness and response. All I can deduce is these guys of ours have been in that battlefield for long and know how to respond but the Tz guys might have seen just little action.

Other conditions applies too.

Of course many factors are in play in frontline deployment but certain factors are laws of military engagement not to be discarded whatsoever like perimeter defences which provides for situational awareness to absorb the initial shock of contact. Op guys and scout patrol/RECCE is a creed given that is a static FOB tasked with direct intervention—those guys were on virtual hostile territory warranting robust presence. Remember these Tanzanians are supposedly the combatants providing cover for the Southies deployed on peacekeeping duties and if they performed so poorly the ADF would be heard from again and it won't be good news that I can tell you.

In the case of our boys that was more a mobile outpost manned by a company of soldiers which sprung up all over remote northeast areas infested with marauding BH terrorists most scavenging for food and on chance preying on defenceless villagers. Soon Bokos found out they could massively attack those outposts manned by few soldiers to overwhelm them with hundreds of rampaging drugged islamafascists who come to die but training and experience gave the soldiers the advantage in most engagements and in situations when the troops came under effective fire and realized they'd be over-run they employed evasive tactics for reinforcements ultimately decimating the enemy in counter-assault operations. Interesting as you note is the minimal number of fatal losses in our engagements proof of better and advanced training coupled with better kitting and communication.

Fact is the guys down there are still learning. The planning and execution was simply amateurish.

You also had a peacekeeping base over-run in the Sudan - at least the Tanzanians held their position.

So, is the Nigerian Army amateurish? Is it a testament to poor training?

You aren't considering the full situation

1. Situational awareness... In the Jungle? You know as well as I that Jungle Warfare is the single most difficult place to maintain decent awareness.

2. They weren't attackers - they were infiltrators. That makes a big difference - in normal warfare the guys with guns are either on your team or not. In Peacekeeping the guys with guns could be anyone and it just so happens that they were wearing uniforms of a 3rd party (Congolese Army).

The only valid criticism is that they didn't entrench their position better and that the weren't doing their dawn/dusk stand-to. These are objective facts that are readily available.

Everything else depends on variables that we don't know and thus cannot pass judgement on - ie: maybe the Tanzanians saw the ADF coming from miles away, but ignored them because they wore FARDC uniforms? Maybe they didn't! We don't know so we can't say.

Thanks for response. I understand more now. The war over there seems something different entirely.

However I feel wherever an outpost / base is, there should be a limit to where even friendly forces need to approach before identifying themself and you confirming it.

Like few meteres to the base itself, set up a perimeters and take everyone trying to come close as a threat until being confirmed.
