barineh:Well it depends on what. It depends on which Government in power. I'm confident this time the money will be judiciously used. The new fly boys of the Nigerian Army need things to fly. The Navy's expeditionary fleet ordered has to be paid for. The Air Force can't wait for it's new birds. Whatever, we should sleep sweet tonight. Its a reality. The guys should be coming up with ideas of what to procure like what Army Aviation assets, there are guys looking this way. My concern is Mansur Dan Ali. The purchase of the birds are looking more opaque than ever. |

We all deal with budget constraints but what happens when your armed forces aren't subject to normal political oversight? What happens when the military basically writes their own cheques? You get the Pak military! In July 2016, the Pakistani senate was informed that the armed forces run over 50 commercial entities worth over $20 billion. Ranging from petrol pumps to huge industrial plants, banks, bakeries, schools and universities, hosiery factories, milk dairies, stud farms, and cement plants, the military has a finger in each pie and stands today as the biggest conglomerate of all business in Pakistan. However, the jewels in their crown are the eight housing societies in eight major towns where prime lands in well-manicured cantonments and plush civil localities in the possession of these societies are allotted to military personnel at highly subsidised rates. Even military awards are linked with the grant of farm lands and housing plots to military personnel.https://qz.com/1134516/inside-pakistans-biggest-business-conglomerate-the-pakistani-military/# IIRC,when my dad visited Karachi on a tea marketing trip 12 yrs back he said the army influence was "everywhere." This is not a good thing! They're a self funding entity interested in pushing hostility against a practically invincible enemy,India. Feeding off civilian anger against India has basically ensued their successful careers. Looking at the stats compared to India its actually no contest. INDIA PAKISTAN GDP Amount in USD GDP Amount in USD 2005 2.8% 35,718 3.7% 7,032 2006 2.5% 36,151 3.4% 7,081 2007 2.3% 41,003 3.1% 6,676 2008 2.6% 48,277 3.1% 6,879 2009 2.9% 48,470 3.1% 7,134 2010 2.7% 48,940 3.1% 7,520 2011 2.6% 48,766 3.3% 7,975 2012 2.5% 48,406 3.2% 8,238 2013 2.4% 50,914 3.3% 8,655 2014 2.5% 51,116 3.3% 9,248 2015 2.3% 51,257 3.4% 9,510 They're outspent 5x on the gross! |

kikuyu1:That's some nice write up. This is however far from most African countries. In Nigeria, I know the Nigerian police force runs schools, ultra modern hospitals, banks, printing press and insurance companies. The military runs schools. They all need to target the large consumer market. If the Nigerian airforce can open a cocoa processing factory in Nigeria, then they'll be paying for their acquisitions very soon. |

Covert1:We order 20 extra jf17 to add to 6 already then complement it with the yak130 or L15 jet at least 12. Then we turn our t55 to IFV. We MUST buy new tanks 150 t72 tanks from Russia would do for now. Some attack helicopters would do some good like the Russian black shark . The Army's aviation should be scrapped. $1b would do all this. And I should stop |

barineh:Nice write up until you mentioned 150 T72 TANKS and TO SCRAP ARMY AVIATION CORPS! unbelievable. T72 is about to turn into another curse just like hilux. Nobody goes for t72 again unless they are donated. We are in the era of T90 man. For Ifv we go for terminators. Our aviation Corps also get to say. |

tdayof:it depends on the model and the customization base model SU30MK unit price should cost between 35-45 million in today's price SU30MKI costs around 75 million actually its difficult to put a price correctly it depends on several factors , price may come down if its a packaged deal with considerable no of units . only after negotiations done will u be able to get the correct price. just to be safe expect it to cost close to 60 million Vietnam follow on order for 12 SU30MK2 cost around 37.5 million each for total of 450 million in 2012. that should be around 55-60 million now algerian1 whats the cost of SU30MKA ? |

tdayof:procurement can be done in staggered form first sign iron clad agreement for final no of units say 12 , it means both parties will not be able to walk away without incurring financial penalty . make payments on year basis , first delivery will take 2-3 years after that 3-4 years to finish delivery. u get around 7 years to shell out 800 million at 60 million per unit at the rate of around 100 million per year this is doable |

Ibrahimanees:You can use the chasis of the t55 to build the BMAT terminator. The T72 is not outdated yet and won't be for long. Besides the spare are almost everywhere with everybody trying to build their type of the t72. It aviation corps would slow the transformation of the Air Force and I would be heavily under armed. |
